What the Heck...
...was I thinking about. Going through my writings, trying to catalog what I have complete, incomplete, what needs editing (all of it...), etc, and I came across a document with just these two paragraphs (see next post). Probably was drunk when I wrote this one (not proud, just saying). Thoughts?

Newbie question
Is it considered bad form to take advantage of the situation when a player appears to have left a game? More specifically is it bad form to resubmit orders just prior to a turn ending when it that player won't be submitting orders? Just wondering about the etiquette of that scenario on this site. Thanks in advance!

AHA! THERE'S krellin's magnum opus on Miley!

"We *bash* Miley Cyrus because we are tired of her overt (heterosexual) displays"

...I'll put that one up to a vote...to be honest, I just find her a talentless hack singing-wise, I couldn't give a shit about her "Look at my flat ass!" displays...it's...a flat ass...yay? I have no opinion beyond "Your ass isn't that exciting," so I'm criticizing her for being a bad singer, not for being overtly sexual, she can be as sexual as she wants--she just has to back it up with talent for me to give a shit.

"But is a fucing homo were to ass-fuck his pal on a wrecking ball everybody would quiver in fear of criticizing it for fear of “gay bashing”."

If that "fucking homo" sang as badly as Miley Cyrus does, I'd be right in line with you bashing him or her, krellin.

Also, lest I forget--

We are bashing Miley/Hypothetical Gay Singer because of their lack of talent, ie, for WHO they are, bad performers...YOU are bashing gays for what they are, ie, what your oh-so-loving God has MADE them to be (and the science is there to say it's a natural condition, so unless you want to risk a science-fail, please don't come back with "Nope, people choose to be gay. If you're mad at the overtness, again--why can Stallone be overtly hetero but Elton John can't be a flaming gay?)

About the closest I'll come to agreeing with you is it is a bit irritating that every LGBT star expects applause for coming out...that IS A bit grating (and I live near LA, home of Entertainment Tonight and like programs, so that's on the news every other night, it seems.)

Even there, for some people it's scary...so maybe they want support...

But yeah--it shouldn't be a goddamn parade every time someone comes out.

Come out, and let them be treated equally like everyone else.

This is frankly a product of the 1970s, when the only way to be gay and be heard WAS to be "flaming"...the same way a lot of feminists of that period were out-and-out feminists and couldn't go two seconds in their literature without showing off how feminist they were.

Nowadays we're more accepting, and they don't need to do that to get noticed or be accepted, however...

So why not let them marry and be equal?

@draugnar: yeah, i already agreed with you, maybe that didn't come across.

Actually, I bash Miley for what she does. I think she actually *Can* sing and clearly enough other people do too, so your opinion not withstanding obi, we bash Miley for her overtly heterosexual activity and we bash the Gay Singer for wearing bottomless chaps and simulating sex with a plunger. I love Elton John's singing and he is as queer as a three dollar bill. But I get so sick of his intentional flamboyance of late. I love Christina Aguilera's singing, but she is worthy of bashing when she wears her chaps and bra and dances all provocatively on music shows.

@kasi - I was typing that when you posted your agreement so didn't see it until after I posted as well.

@draugnar: just one last thing, even if i totally agree with you now: what about rammstein? i don't know if you know them or their live shows, but they are certainly being very openly sexual. i think you have to be aware that the music comes with an image that you may not like. then you simply listen to the music.

What's with the Miley Cyrus hate? I'd tap that flat ass any day.
Draugnar (0 DX)

What they do in their shows for their fans is their business (and I happen to love their music). But what they do on free TV is the public's business. Richard Pryor didn't curse on TV nor did Bill Cosby, but Bill has a foul mouth when he does standup for an adult crowd.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Dec 13 UTC
And Rammstein, specifically, has one song I know well. It got them in all kinds of trouble at one point, but it was a great and catchy piece. I have no problem with Miley and Wrecking Ball as it is a performance video. It was made as art. But I do have a problem with her grinding her crotch against Robin Thicke at the VMAs.
Fasces349 (0 DX)

I think Draugnar summed up my view on the issue perfectly here:
"Really? One asshat on a TV show made to entertain says something provocative to, gee, I don't know, *boost ratings* and you judge an entire group of people on it? Fuck you, obiwanobiwan."
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
19 Dec 13 UTC
Are you personally offended by it? Are you looking out for the youngin's being affected by it? Both? The latter does give me some pause, I'll admit that.
kasimax (243 D)
19 Dec 13 UTC
just out of interest: what song are you referring to?

and do you think that if rammstein performed at the vmas, they should kind of "reduce" their performance? i don't say that what dear miley does there should be labeled as performance though.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Dec 13 UTC
@kasi - YEs. The VMAs are broadcast during primetime across public airwaves. And "Du hast" was the song. I remember the lyrics, when translated, were quite the uproar (not that lyrics mean shit to a catchy tune in my view).

@Y2K - I am not worried about the younguns or about my own sensibilities. I am concerned with the rights of the general populace to go about their public lives and not worry about *their* sensibilities or their right to prevent *their* young'uns from seeing certain material. We have laws against public indecency and intoxication and such because *society* as a whole has deemed those things to be restricted from the general public view. Now, if you want to do a rock concert, your fans know what to expect and anyone is free to walk out if they find themselves offended. If you want to make a music video then you have to accept that it may get edited in some way for the public airwaves but that your artistic integrity will be maintained on your DVD/Bluray and on fee-based services and anyone watching is free to change the channel.

But if you are groping your S/O at the mall and may as well be having sex during the holidays right there by Santa's house, then you are carrying it to far and being overt and should be "bashed" (in a metaphorical or verbal sense, obviously).
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
19 Dec 13 UTC
So what's the issue with what Miley did at the VMA's? Is it the fact that it wasn't her show and was an awards presentation and people weren't there to see just her? I.e. if she had her own concert and invited Robin Thicke and thrusted at him all night, no problem?
kasimax (243 D)
19 Dec 13 UTC
okay, yeah, i get your primetime point. awesome song by the way.

For what it's worth, I don't have any real problems with the sexuality of Miley's performance. There were, however, certainly aspects of cultural appropriation with it.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
19 Dec 13 UTC
I reread your response to kasimax and gather your answer to my last question is yes, Draug. Correct?
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Dec 13 UTC
@y2k - It was not only an awards show, but broadcast on public airwaves during primetime. A concert situation would be different and would depend on the specific circumstances. Basically, I believe in public decency laws and "lewd and lascivious behavior" on public airwaves is a violation of those laws. Remember Janet Jackson's nipple during the Superbowl Halftime Show?

Money Philosophy
Liberals: Always focused on how to get other people's money, how to take money away from "rich" to give to others that have not earned it, but are somehow "owed" it (because they were born).

Conservatives: Focused on how to grow personal wealth, improve one's self and be financially self-reliant so as to not burden others.
