Yeah - they tried, so what? You act like Sony has never tried anything stupid and offensive to the consumer. I quit buying Sony products years and years ago because everything they sold used proprietary connectors -- for *everything* -- meaning if you needed a replacement cord for your xyz, you had to go to Sony and only Sony.
But seriously...your "wahhh...they're so out of touch with consumers....blah blah blah..." We get it. You are a Playstation fanboi. Yay for you. I've been listening to people like you bash Microsoft since MS-DOS...yeah, they are so out of touch, I get it.
And yet, sales would disagree with you. They are out of touch with YOU. And guess what, Sony is out of touch with all the XBox consumers. Oh my gosh! There's a market with a choice and it works....imagine that...
You act like eliminating the used game market is soooo awful. That's funny...because I see iPhone and Android zombies all over teh place playing content that they buy once and keep forever, no take backs. So Microsoft tried to protect their sales - what's the problem. There are a lot of PC based games that have tried the same thign in the past: You buy the game, enter your code to register the game and that's it - you can't sell it, because the code won't work anymore.
You act like what MS tried to do here is unique. The only thing you have revelaed to anyone here is your utter ignorance of the various business models that already DO exist.
And yes...it IS about you wanting the government to make games for you in affect. Your complaint: Microsoft tries to make money. You get all pissed off when they try to prevent their games from being sold in secondary markets and cutting them out of the loop. So, in your dream world where Microsoft can't make money, they don't make games...they don't make consoles, because without a profit motive there IS NO MICROSOFT. IN such a profitless society that you dream of, the only place you will turn for goods in the government, because nobody produces things for free. So yes...your dream is the Obama Console. I'm sure it will work *fantastic* too...
Now, on the flip side, what you are probably too dense to understand is that if Microsoft HAD manged to keep their market in place as they dreamed, the price of games probably would have dropped *dramatically*, because they would be able to make more money on more sales - because that is generally how it works in other markets using a similar model. There were other positive trade-offs to the consumer as well...but it doesn't matter. You can still enjoy your $60/game price point, I guess. Yay for you.
