Here in Indiana, we are typically right-leaning. Despite what the 2008 election suggests, we are your typical midwestern state, and as a result, we don't have much high regard for education. As such, we elected Tony Bennett.
Now, Tony Bennett is probably a great guy, and he's probably a nice dude. But he was a really, REALLY shitty politician, and that's saying something because most politicians anymore are just really shitty, not really really shitty. So, as a result, in arguably the most surprising defeat in the state and certainly one of the most surprising in the country, the teachers of Indiana started a grassroots movement through social media and kicked Bennett out of this state in favor of Glenda Ritz.
You'd think whoever he ran against would have used this as leverage. He couldn't win the election in Indiana and he lost to a relative nobody? That's a sign, right? Wrong. Florida decides to throw him into the same position that he just got booted out of in Indiana. Good job, Floridians.
I'm sure you are all concerned about the recent news from Indiana, it really was a nice scandal. Tony Bennett resigned from his position in Florida today, so you don't have to worry about him anymore, and trust me, if you want your schools to work again, you certainly don't want to worry about him anymore.
I just want to remind you that Indiana didn't need this scandal to come out to realize who we were dealing with. But hey, it's okay. Amid Anthony Weiner and the like, I guess trying to keep your donor's school on top by letting them cheat (slightly hypocritical for an education commish to cheat but oh well) isn't so bad... but it's funny.
Good luck finding your own Glenda Ritz. Hopefully your teachers care enough to make it happen.
