Who's calling?
I know it sounds like a joke but I'm asking for a serious reason. Who's calling? That's all.

Evolution is not selfish
Something I've been saying for years; nature rewards the co-operative. Not co-operative in that "I want to get laid and the best way to do that is by being co-operative", but proper altruistic natural instincts.

GoGo-3 Game - obviously no draw
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=118966
Most of us have wanted to draw since before Pacific Russia started winning. Argentina put up their vote for draw when they were still larger or about the same as P.R. I'm on holiday soon. Please draw, or i just throw the game.

Hey, At Least Our WebDip Denizens Don't Do THIS...
http://news.yahoo.com/twitter-threats-highlight-blight-online-trolls-094629380.html

...Really, what the hell???

"Police are investigating a threat of rape and murder made to Labour Party lawmaker Stella Creasy by a user with the Twitter name @killcreasynow. The crude and graphically violent tweet was one of many Creasy received after she tweeted in support of feminist campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez. Criado-Perez was sent a torrent of invective after she campaigned, successfully, for novelist Jane Austen to appear on a British banknote."

Who DOES that?

Yes, yes, I know, sad, sick people, that's the standard response...but still, really?

How does someone get to the point where they not only need to be sad, sick, and threatening to feel any sense of self-worth, but they need to do so like that?

I mean...it's just Jane Austen on money!

...Granted that's somewhat of an irony given the nature of money in her works, and if I were picking I'd put Virginia Woolf on bills before Austen any day, but that's really neither here nor there...

Another quote that stood out:

""Trolls pick out one defining characteristic to attack their victims, she said. "If you are a Muslim, it's all Islamophobia. If you are gay, it's all homophobia. If you are a woman, it's all misogyny.""

I've personally seen myself more pro-Islam, anti-West trolls online than the reverse, but I don't doubt all forms of bigotry exist online (I take issue with the way some use "Islamophobia" here, but again, that's another story.)

The trick is not to have a Twitter account. Works for me.

I don't have one either...well, I do, but I don't use it, I think I posted one comment on it once, over the course of its year or so existence (and that was just to congratulate someone.)

Maybe it's off-topic, but if we're talking social media...

I vastly prefer Facebook to Yahoo or Twitter or any of that.

50 or so friends on FB, plus whatever composers and authors and movies I have liked, so it's 1. People I actually know (and by "know" I of course mean actually KNOWING THEM, *NOT* "Oh, I met you at a party for 5 minutes, that sounds like a strong foundation to friend you and spill all my personal-if-pointless shit to you") and 2. Stuff I actually like.

For me, that's good. That's fine. It's a good way to stay in touch with friends you might otherwise lose due to distance and whatnot. Anything else...just....just no...about the only exception to that is when the Arab Spring and then the latest (how sad is it I have to qualify it that way?) Israel/Hamas mini-war broke out, I looked over and commented on some of the pages pertaining to those conflicts because, hey, it's history in motion, I'm interested what people have to say who are actually there and interested in even adding my voice to that discussion a bit, and in our day and age, social media is how that's done.

Twitter...just...

It's like those gossipy high school girls everyone had the misfortune of knowing...

Only now they number in the millions, are louder, more obnoxious, are given increasing credence by ACTUAL media, and they range from "Who the fuck cares that you just fucked your girlfriend and are eating a sandwich?" to "Well, YOUR career just took a hit thanks to that stupid post!" to "WOW you're a vile, vicious human being, aren't you?"

:/

Snowden has a new butt buddy named Putin

This is what Putin planned all along. Putin, 10 pts. Snowden 0 pts.
Putin is definitely the "top" in this relationship.
