new maps, new rule
I'm guessing there was probably already discussion about this that I didn't see, but I noticed on the two new maps new builds can go anywhere. In traditional rules you can only build on your start centers. I think the traditional rule provides a better balance in the game. Why was this changed on the new maps?

Decline in the playerbase
I've noticed less players available for live games than this time last year. I didn't worry during the September slump, as I attributed that to kids going back to school. But it appears to me that the number continues to slide.

American Christians--Beware! THERE BE A WAR UPON THEE! (So Sayeth...Others)
A quick Wikipedia check puts the approximate number of Americans identifying as Christian at 70%; a Gallup poll in 2012 said 77%...let's say between 70-80%, with easily 85-90% of those in Congress Christian. States such as Texas STILL *REQUIRE* you to be Christian to run for governor. We support Intelligent Design more than any other Western nation, we argue against Evolution/Gay Rights/Atheism more than most Western nations...HOW is there a "War on Christianity," here, folks?

Not Getting to 100 Points
I thought that if I finished a game and I was under 100 D, I'd be "moved" to 100 D.

I've finished a couple of games and still way down on the points - 44. Why is this?
Until you get to 0 it will not get back to 100.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
25 Jul 13 UTC
Your "total points" are what go to 100 D when you finish a game and have less than 100 D total. "Total points" includes points invested in ongoing games.

If it refreshed your available points to 100, then you could just start a password protected game with a buy-in of your all of your available points so they were at 0 right before ending another game.
Mapu (362 D)
26 Jul 13 UTC
Also, and not sure if this applies to you, if you leave a game before it is finished (CD), you do not get the points back if you are under 100.
Al Swearengen (0 DX)

I apologize, but it really does appear that there has been some sort of glitch and this fellow has been shorted a bunch of points.

Someone please double-check my arithmetic.
His profile reads Total points: 109 D

Your arithmetic is incorrect.

Let me try to run through again. Yeah, but why does it say 44 next to his name? He has no resigns and he's not in any games. Something is not working right, or is misleading. I'm still confused. I feel like either he should have some resigns (which doesn't looks like it applies), or he should have 109 D next to his name, or he should be involved in some games. It really doesn't make any sense. I apologize if I'm being a bit thick, but could someone try to explain where I went wrong?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
Anonymous games, Al. anonymous games. Unless you are a mod or you are him, you won't see his anonymous games and the points invested in them. Otherwise it wouldn't exactly be anonymous.
Total points - available points = points in play
Al Swearengen (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
Oh, cool! Okay, I'll try to create a game to test that theory!
Al Swearengen (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
Hmmm, I created an (anonymous) test game, and now it's showing that I'm in a game on my profile. How many games does it say I'm in when you're viewing my profile?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
Al, of course you can see the anonymous games *you* are in in *your* profile. I'm in one now, but *you* won't see it in *my* profile.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
For the record, this is what others see on your profile.

Rank: Diplomat
Position: 450 / 9577 (top 5%)
Available points: 933
Points in play: 0
Total points: 1093

Game messages: 9737

Game stats: ◦Defeated: 21 ( 18% )
◦Won: 7 ( 6% )
◦Drawn: 60 ( 52% )
◦Survived: 27 ( 23% )
◦Total (finished): 115
◦Playing: 0

Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
From that, we can deduce that you have 100 D in anonymous games, but they could all be in one game or they could be spread across multiple games (as many as 100 if you took over a bunch of 1 SC abandoned positions).

@Draugnar - thx bro.

just one minor point though - i could have done without the condescension. I get it, you think it's perfectly obvious. I don't. Apparently at least one other person agrees with me.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

If they are points in play they should be listed as points in play, if you only count the ones you can see in play, that actually gives you more information about how much points invested in anonymous games, information you're not supposed to know...

Does that make sense?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
The issue is the design of the security prevents a user who isn't a mod/admin and isn't the playe rin question from seeing *any* information that pertains to their participation in an anon game until the game is over.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
26 Jul 13 UTC
But you have the information. All they're doing by not showing the points in play as points in play but as points removed from available points, is telling you how much points are invested in anonymous games.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
By virtue of the fact that don't show, you are correct. But if they added them in, then you could just as easily go through the active games you can see for that player and add up their buyins to determine how much was in anon. Honestly, the only thing that matters is that the system doesn't reflect how many anon games there are so you can't use the anon buy-ins plus the count to try and figure out which anon games they are in.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
What would be the best solution is to never reimburde for CD points but to also not reflect how many points were lost to CDs. Then the difference could be anon games *or* CDs.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
26 Jul 13 UTC
Or do like the anon game message timestamps and just give an approximation of the total points.
The Czech (39715 D(S))
26 Jul 13 UTC
Players actually bother looking this info up? Less nerd stuff more dipping would be a better use of time IMO.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC

The system could also just subtract out anonymous investments from total points reflecting a lesser amount.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
26 Jul 13 UTC
"just as easily"

That's where we disagree Draugnar. I think it's at least a bit harder to find out by looking at active games. Slower at least.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jul 13 UTC
Slower, but not harder. But the phrase is a colloquialism. It isn't to be taken literally.

Pausing?
We're attempting to Pause a game as one player is gone for the weekend. However, certain players haven't checked in yet and so they haven't voted pause. The player who is leaving has left, but already voted to pause.

My question is, if the game progresses to the next phase, will the "Pause" vote reset, or will all the Pause votes stay in place unless cancelled by the voting player? Can we finish up our orders to progress to the start of the next round and then vote "Pause"?
