new maps, new rule
I'm guessing there was probably already discussion about this that I didn't see, but I noticed on the two new maps new builds can go anywhere. In traditional rules you can only build on your start centers. I think the traditional rule provides a better balance in the game. Why was this changed on the new maps?

Decline in the playerbase
I've noticed less players available for live games than this time last year. I didn't worry during the September slump, as I attributed that to kids going back to school. But it appears to me that the number continues to slide.

American Christians--Beware! THERE BE A WAR UPON THEE! (So Sayeth...Others)
A quick Wikipedia check puts the approximate number of Americans identifying as Christian at 70%; a Gallup poll in 2012 said 77%...let's say between 70-80%, with easily 85-90% of those in Congress Christian. States such as Texas STILL *REQUIRE* you to be Christian to run for governor. We support Intelligent Design more than any other Western nation, we argue against Evolution/Gay Rights/Atheism more than most Western nations...HOW is there a "War on Christianity," here, folks?

Not Getting to 100 Points
I thought that if I finished a game and I was under 100 D, I'd be "moved" to 100 D.

I've finished a couple of games and still way down on the points - 44. Why is this?

Pausing?
We're attempting to Pause a game as one player is gone for the weekend. However, certain players haven't checked in yet and so they haven't voted pause. The player who is leaving has left, but already voted to pause.

My question is, if the game progresses to the next phase, will the "Pause" vote reset, or will all the Pause votes stay in place unless cancelled by the voting player? Can we finish up our orders to progress to the start of the next round and then vote "Pause"?

Detroit - WTF are you thinking
http://money.cnn.com/2013/07/26/news/economy/detroit-bankruptcy-arena/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Build a $400,000,000+ arena while you are *bankrupt*! That's great economics. Good luck getting bailed out for that one in five years.
SacredDigits (102 D)

Well, to be fair, only about 55 million of it is hitting the city, the rest of it is mostly coming from the state. And if they don't build a new arena, one of the suburbs will, and the Wings are easily the most popular of the major sports teams in the area, resulting in additional possible revenue.

The bankruptcy is largely about trying to get out of the pension payments, or to restructure them.

Bringing the Tigers into the downtown area, and the Lions too, helped the redevelopment of that zone quite a bit, which was pretty much vacant before. Then again, the place where the Tigers used to be, Corktown, seems to be the next neighborhood coming out of rough times.

Doesn't matter. They're still up the river with those pensions.

I'll admit that I'm not terribly familiar with the Detroit situation, but I thought I'd share the insiders perspective on how the whole stadium racket works.

And yes, the truth is that municipal stadium construction sometimes creates jobs, boosts sales tax, produces a reasonable return on bonds, stimulates local investment, improves morale, reduces crime, boosts real-estate value and promotes interest in sports. But sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes, it doesn't accomplish any of those things.

The real beneficiaries of stadium construction projects are the construction cartels that actually build stadiums. They are (quite often) the major sponsors of stadium crazes, and quite usually are the principle beneficiaries.

As far as "following the money trail" goes, usually you can expect to see a close link between some of the construction moguls, one or more lobbying groups, and then one or more city council types.

I'll speculate that these sorts of projects would be a lot more successful if the construction firms were asked to put up a good chunk of the capitol involved in funding the venture, meaning that they wouldn't really get paid unless the stadium produced a return.

It's right for people to be skeptical of these sorts of municipal projects.

I think I know exactly where they are buildig the new stadium, which will also be accompanied by a retail development, and possibly some residential development (either directly or indirectly). The area in question would add on to the already very successful and growing district which includes Greektown, a couple casinos, Comerica Park and Ford Field, the Fox Theater, some great restraurants, etc...In addition, other old buildings are being bought up and rennovated in the area by sick businessmen (such as the QuickenLoans founder, Dan Gilbert, and others). This core entertainment center is safe -- the streets are crowded when there is a ball game, and the restaurants are packed.

This additional economic center will will pretty much connect this previously mentioned business/entertainment hub to "midtown", which include the Detroit Institute of Artys (a great museum), the D. Science Center, African American History Museum and some other museums, as well as Wayne State University, where a lot of younger peole obviously dwell.

It creates a larger zone of economic activity and safety...which means the "fringes" of these areas start to grow, blossom, etc....this is how a city grows and revitalizes.

The funding does not, in any way, tax tax revenue from the city itself.

This has nothing to do with the backrupcy. Bankruptcy is a city budget issue, which has nothing to do with economic development (or only peripherally does).

The stadium will be a great thing for the city, and another positive step that the city is on the come-back.

When playing live games on maps America and Modern Europe, there is not enough time to move 20 or more units in 5 minutes. So, can there be a new phase length of 6 or 7 minutes?
