Just making a list....
Hello WebDip. I'm making a list. If you think that feminism is harming society, or that black activists are "race-baiters," or that America's only moral obligation is to the American nation, or that anthropogenic climate change is overblown, or that laws to economically assist the poor such as a minimum wage are counter-productive to economic growth, or that "privilege" as a concept is an invention of ivory tower academics, please subscribe to my list. :D

Is the end of the game premature? What could have happened otherwise?
Feel free to discuss it,note that France was the last one voting draw.
Was it a bad decision?

Why did Czech have his draw vote up? Seems odd.
The Czech (39715 D(S))

I didn't think I had a chance at a solo until Germnay disbanded in Mun. I was pretty much at the stalemate line.
Yonni (136 D(S))
15 Jul 13 UTC
And you didn't take the draw flag down in time?
My opinion is that Czech always has his draw vote up too early ;-)
I was wondering why he had his draw vote up even when England was in the game and he was at 15,me on 11... But I know his answer - he plays for fun.

y2kjbk (4846 D(G))

The Czech almost certainly would have been halted at 17 after taking Munich/Kiel/Trieste. Plowing through to Venice would have been doable only if Split was too aggressive and kept going after Italy himself.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
15 Jul 13 UTC
Taking Kiel wouldn't have been a cake walk either for that matter.
He couldn't have taken Kiel but he could have taken Venice and Norway. I wanted to eliminate Germany but in the last turn I've missordered Gascony and Fairfax let him into Tyrolia - those were two reasons I needed to draw. I saw a high possibility of the Austrian solo. That's why I ask publicly if anyone see if it was possible to eliminate Germany and to hold Norway or Venice.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
15 Jul 13 UTC
He could have taken Venice easily. Rome and Naples wouldn't have been out of the question if he'd gotten an army to Apulia, but that would only happen if Split had made a mistake.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
15 Jul 13 UTC
Without the misorder, Split could have gotten that guy to Tuscany while using Piedmont to SH Venice and ensure a hold there before Czech could take Adriatic. But even with it, I think there would have been time to secure Venice, since Austria also needed to convoy to Apulia to secure that grab. Italy could block that move though until Austria takes Adriatic.

I don't see how Austria was ever going to get Norway...
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
15 Jul 13 UTC
Only if Germany were pissed enough to support him in.
In the next turn Austria takes Apulia (with the army Gre!) and Adriatic 100%, Italy let that. North sea needs to defend Denmark or Norway - guessing game - because Sweden attacks Denmark or supports StPet to Norway. So what I can do to prevent all that? And if Norway is taken it's game over.
The point is - everyone here agrees Austria was a solo threat.Too bad Fairfax didn't think so. That's what "draw" vote is usefull for - to make others think you are not a solo threat. :)

lol That's why I play for fun SD. I didn't give this game another thought, but I love reading the comments. Maybe I'll have to play a more serious game sometime.
Why you wanted the 5-way draw Czech?
The Czech (39715 D(S))
15 Jul 13 UTC
My place was secure in the draw. There was very little I could do strategically so the game was pretty much over for me. I counted the dots and didn't think I would get 18, until Italy built the army and Germany disbanded Mun that is.
I've asked you about the FIVE-way. You play for fun and you want the game ends as soon as possible, before it's resolved. Those two facts put together don't make sense to me.
The Czech (39715 D(S))
15 Jul 13 UTC
What was to resolve? A smaller pool for the draw? I didn't benefit. I wasn't the one who was going to get to eliminate England. Where's the fun in watching you slaughter innocent countries when all they wanted was peace.
The Czech (39715 D(S))
15 Jul 13 UTC
Tell you what. Let's set up a game with the mods approval that there can be no draw unless it is between the final 2 players.
I don't understand your point at all. What is to be resolved in the game of diplomacy?! You can find about that in the game rules, section "end game"... You didn't benefit from a smaller draw?! What's "a benefit " to you? You were slaughtering an innocent country by supporting Holland to Kiel in 1908 (or '09 don't remember) - if you are putting things that way. You were playing against yourself and against the game itself. Is that "playing for fun"?
The Czech (39715 D(S))

I do bat shit crazy stuff sometimes. I laugh at myself. Points are just points. Having 100 or 25712 means nothing to me. If the mods froze my account and would allow me to start over I would be OK. I play the game to kill time as I'm doing other things.
I'm not talking about the points but about the end of any single game. If you want 5,6,7 way-draw when the game isn't stalemated why you start the game at all? Why you draw a game after 6 years played while you have 15 SC-s? Where is the fun you are preaching about the whole time?
The Czech (39715 D(S))
15 Jul 13 UTC
I was never going to get to 18 in my mind. I did't and don't see the need to beat a dead horse. It's amuzing for a minute then gets boring.
The Czech (39715 D(S))
15 Jul 13 UTC
I normally don't draw with 5, 6, 7 but have made exceptions because of other things going on in my life. Anyway, you had the option of not drawing. Why blame me for the large draw? You could have withheld your vote.
Ok,I understand - you are so having fun playing games that you can't wait the game to end. Let's draw all in 1906 with all the mess on the board, yeah, good game guys,I had so much fun!!!
I posted here about my reasons why I drawn the game in the end. You could also man up and tell the truth why you wanted the 5-way.
The Czech (39715 D(S))
15 Jul 13 UTC
I can't wait to start the next one is the point. You started this thread asking if you casting the final draw was the right move. I have a feeling you already knew the answer, but couldn't accept it. Austria to 18 without controling Italy is impossible. You had Italy's back and all that was left was to eliminate the smaller countries. You could have done that then drew. As for my side there was no where to go unless Italy and Germany gave me the win. There would have been no fun in that. I had that happen once in a 7000 D pot game ( I think it was 7000, it was near that anyway if I remember right). I took the win and was shamed by one of the players. It didn't bother me, but it wasn't fun. I think I was more I put so much time into the game I wanted my pound of flesh.
Yes,I think I know where I have mistaken,I only needed to leave Denmark unguarded that last year. But I didn't see it at that point and voted for a draw. That was my reason. But that's not the point, the point is I voted when I saw no chance for a smaller draw and when I saw a solo danger.I didn't vote for a draw for some stupid reasons like you did.
The Czech (39715 D(S))
15 Jul 13 UTC
I saw you with a win. Once the fleets poured into Baltic and GoB the game was yours. You could have slid armies to retake Mun and you could have taken StP. It was a matter of time IMO. I didn't see me soloing so draw went up.
What you are talking about Munich is nonsense,I can't have it anyhow.
Take a look at the board in spring '08 when you voted draw and stop giving false excuses, please.

My problem is I'm too trusting
Czech, the old game you referenced - did I give you the win? Were you Turkey and France disbands POR to give you the win? Who shamed you after that one? You were in the right place at the right time. Sometimes a win is not you outguessing the other players, sometimes they make mistakes. These wins are not any less deserved.
The Czech (39715 D(S))

I don't remember. Other players go through my old games. I only have one I cared about and that one is posted on my page. It was such a lucky win because I came from 1 to 18 because of NMRs and CDs. Perseverance.

How to survive as Austria in gunboat?
The name of the thread should be clear for everyone.
I know about Hedgehog openings, but it's tough to capitalize on them.
It's extremely hard for me to see Italy playing Lepanto, so it leaves 2 options: fighting France or Austria for Italy. And Austria is the easy one.
