@C-fox: yes, i fear i don't know how to convince them.

I believe there is evidence that dis-empowered teenagers tend to become violent and sexually active - with more violence from the males.

Especially males/females who don't see society as valuing them. And who find that they can only earn social status (among their peers, because society looks down on them) by dominating others, violently for the men, and sexually for both.

I'm guessing that this may seem very strange for someone who doesn't live in such a world. Who doesn't see the same values as they do. How ever, i fear the right-wing cult of personal responsibility would automatically conclude that individuals are entirely responsible for their actions regardless of the social circumstances in which they develop.

That is basically based on some flawed notion of the human animals as having free will to choose whatever it wants. As opposed to being influenced by everything and being constrained to make choices which seem to likely to benefit or further their goals.

I've found this is a very difficult concept to describe/explain or prove to people, especially those who don't want to listen.
