Polemically Postured Pompous Personal Promotion...
Can play this game too?

In solemn declaration, I myself personally hereby vow to sesquipedalianise and, through such verbositisation, expose the inverse correlation linking the challenged status of my clarityism, maturityism, originalitysm and hopeless belief in the misuse of abstract noun-strings (ismtyism) to that of my interlect...

Please do not respond. I promise not to add to this thread.

Unless you force me.

I will stop now.

I really will.

I might start another thread though.

It is important that my work be read seriously.

I really do not know why my tutors could not appreciate it, but I will not use the conspiracy word.

And I do not keep looking at my mobile...

*Warning* -- Teammates at work
If anyone enters a game that includes both Yakulu and Yosheekee, they work as a team. They've played in three games together and in every one they've done it. (Kiss Diplo - 01, Alex Ovechkin is Golfing Now & jesus wore a poncho) Three straight games is not a coincidence.

Don't accuse them of being one person though, they get very upset about that.

a personal declaration
I declare, after much thought and introspection, my deliberate emancipation from participation in empty consumerism, and in the society that perpetuates it. The same society that mendaciously and injudiciously prioritizes practices that are wasteful, contradictory, and wholly detrimental, that is intolerable to any ideas which break civilizations circular reinforcement of the illusion of it's own importance, and is hostile to those who harbor them, that shortsightedly persists with the intentional, wanton destruction of finite natural resources and biodiversity, exploiting the limited carrying capacity of the Earth and knowingly leading us to a disastrous end. I have decided to secede from this culture of conformity and materialism, because acceptance of its principles leads to inclusion in a tragedy of the commons on a massive scale, and to the destruction of individualism, liberty, self-reliance and free thought. I refuse to unthinkingly accept the idea that our current civilization is both necessary and inevitable, but to always stay true to my convictions and beliefs, and to remain as free as I can of the harmful influence of our society. I will endeavor to inform others of the unfavorable outcomes of materialism, industrialization, idolization, globalization, ethnocentrism, objectification, conformity, and government, because it is my hope that by informing the populace, the abolition of these philosophies can be accomplished without violence and anarchy. I will remove myself, to the best of my ability, from a lifestyle that I no longer believe in or desire.

Eurocentrism
The game of Diplomacy is certainly Eurocentric but what are our opinions on other forms of Eurocentrism? I don't mean to go into the territory of "racism" although we could possibly explore "racialism". Should white people (and other people) try to resist a Eurocentric outlook on life?

AI and Diplomacy
Has anybody played the PC diplomacy game? i heard there is a new version out.
i played one about 3 or 4 years ago. graphics and interface were quite nice but it had one huge draw back... too bloody easy. for example on the hard setting as Austria ..... you would win almost every time.

how is the new one if anybody knows?

and as a side question how would an AI do against a human do you think?
kestas and other code minded individuals have you ever thought about setting one up? would be quite cool of you to run one in php games. sure it may not be able to understand our jibberish and typo filled demands in the chat box but it could play on semi no press individual mode.

Math is truth.
Theophilus (100 D)

my goodness. Of course I'm not a professor. Truth be told, I am, like Thucydides, a student. But I am a very proficient student and intend and aspire to be a professor. It was an interesting experiment on my part to see if anyone would believe that I am one.
Sicarius (673 D)
23 Apr 08 UTC
oh an experiment, is that what that was?
are you sure you werent trying to end the argument by claiming to have credentials?
I'll bet you're not even in college.

Thucy, it would not work. possible yes, but extremely unlikley.
I would not voluntarily be miserable at the promise of some future happiness. that is for socialists and christians and the like
so let me say it again, Why would I become what I am against? well, I'm still going to be fighting the status quo, I'm going to change things from the inside, right? That's what they tell you, at least. Of course the system has "appropriate procedures" for people with grievances to go through to try to make things better; that's the safety valve to release pressure when people get too worked up. Do you think the powers that be would really let anyone use their own laws and methods to depose them? If this system provided opportunities for real change, people would have taken advantage of them a long time ago. Countless generations have set out convinced that they would succeed where other had failed. that's where lawyers and reporters come from, you know. They're the cynical corpses of idealistic young men and women who thought the system could be reformed.
We need to nourish our idealism and our willingness to take risks, not work out new ways to integrate our frustration and our desperation for change back into the society that engendered them. every day spent "using the system" is another day longer we'll have to wait until new networks and better ways of life replace the old ones.
Chrispminis (916 D)
23 Apr 08 UTC
God, Sicarius. Have you not noticed the vast change that's been instituted throughout history? A lot of that was done through the system! People have taken advantage of the opportunities for real change, and a long time ago as well! Heard of say... the Civil Rights movement?
Sicarius (673 D)
23 Apr 08 UTC
that was a relativley small change in relation to what I want to do.
I dont think the best step in getting rid of congress is to become a congressman.
as far as the CRM, I would say marchers and protesters, not politicians instituted the real change
Chrispminis (916 D)
23 Apr 08 UTC
Obviously the change you seek won't happen in your lifetime... but you can still make a significant change, perhaps enough to send the boulder tumbling down the hill, get the ideas snowballing. You know. Marchers and protesters institute change by pressuring politicians who require their votes. It's democracy. They will vote for the politician that best represents their interests. And that politician institutes the change.

Perhaps you can be the voice of anarcho-primitivism in government. There are plenty of libertarians out there, and a few in government who are all for smaller government.
Sicarius (673 D)
23 Apr 08 UTC
first of all, the probability of that working is almost non-existent.
secondly, and most importantly, I dont want to do it.
I dont want to come back to your world, it's horrible
Chrispminis (916 D)
23 Apr 08 UTC
I don't know where you get the statistics to back up that probability... but it is nowhere near non-existent. Do you really think government is so lofty and separate from the people? They are inexorably linked.
Sicarius (673 D)
23 Apr 08 UTC
do you really think an anarcho-primitivist who has a police record of assaulting police officers, and theft, can run for office, actually get elected, then use the power of my office to destroy my office?

I do not think it would work.
but more importantly than the fact that it wouldnt work, is that I dont want to do it
ednos (529 D(S))
24 Apr 08 UTC
If you assault police officers, I think there are some other issues into which you should look before trying to correct society. I'm sure you're not religious, but I do think that the parable from the Sermon on the Mount about the plank in your own eye is quite, quite relevant.
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 08 UTC
my record says assault
I did no such thing.
he hit me with his baton and broke 3 fingers, then sprayed me with mace.
he did this because of what I believe, not out of some dedication to tranquilty or security, neither of which I was disrupting.

Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 08 UTC
1st, im not in the habit of carrying all my paperwork with me.
I have none

also I'm not about to release highly sensitive, highly personal information on the internet for next to no reason.

me and 70 other people say I did nothing

him and 4 cops say I did. so that is what the document says

do yoy believe everything you read? the newspaper? the bible? your history books?
What I would give to spray you in the face with a can of mace! And yes, I do believe the newspaper, my history books and the bible. They all at least have a bit more documented truth than a lunatic anarchist with an over-active imagination.
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 08 UTC
well history books are more like, 'inspired by true events'
newspapers have no much spin they might as well be lies. and sometimes its lies
the bible, well lets not get into that
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 08 UTC
anyway this isnt about me getting sprayed with mace, its not that uncommon. saying police is just like saying police brutality
Thucydides (864 D(B))
24 Apr 08 UTC
The way to dismantle Congress is a Constitutional Amendment. Or more likely, calling, constitutionally, another Constitutional Convention, and drafting a new constitution. Wherein you would implement your ideals. Of course you would have to compromise but a successor of yours could go further for you.
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 08 UTC
can you honestly tell me you think that will work

Thucydides (864 D(B))
24 Apr 08 UTC
Yes. I honestly can.
Tucobenedicto (100 D)

hai guise wats going on in this thread?
Thucydides (864 D(B))
24 Apr 08 UTC
The only thing preventing you is public opinion. And if your cause if worthy, public opinion will inevitably change. The only factor missing is you. It is up to you to bring your cause to the people.
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 08 UTC
I dont think I have the skills. I'm no orator, I have no winning smile. if people really cared and the system really worked, nader, or the green party wouldve been elected already. so I dont think so.

in addition to the skills, I do not have the desire. at all. An iraqi freedom fighter is not going to join the marines, to change it from the inside
Thucydides (864 D(B))
24 Apr 08 UTC
I'll give you that you don't have the desire. The alternative then is to encourage a cohort to do the same while you support them from behind. Same concept, just not you specifically. An Iraqi freedom fighter, by the way, just as with the KKK would do very well for himself to join the Marines.
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 08 UTC
I meant to illustrate that he would not want to.

I'm fighting. so as far as I'm concerned I've already won

New Player Needs Help
Hello everyone, i have just joined the site. I have never played diplomacy before, but i love the idea. I am a big fan of nomics, quo vadis, and other political/negotiation games (I would almost include risk in that category). I have read articles and descriptions of the game, and I believe I understand the basic rules. I don't want to to just jump in to a game and screw things up. What should I do? Is the there something i should read?
