Your preemptive attack on disagreement notwithstanding, this is not my experience of how guys talk to each other in private, nor would that make it acceptable.

I do agree that it's a pretty minor point--as if anyone didn't know what sort of person Trump is already. As if Presidential character and Presidential success have ever been closely linked. As if there aren't a dozen better reasons not to vote for Trump. It just happens to be clear-cut enough that the Pence faction--conservatives who are holding their nose and backing Trump because he's got the R next to his name and Hillary is evul--can't just deny it when they see the news segment. Which is why you see Pence telling Trump he's the only one who can speak to this issue, and a smattering of GOP backers withdrawing their support.

By the way, if we're supposed to take this as relevant to the election, I'm pretty sure the only relevant Clinton has never had *her* dick sucked in the Oval Office. That'd be a bit of a logistical challenge.

@Lethologica, how old are you? I only noticed guys really start talking like that in the later years of high school and the beginning of university. Nearer to the end of undergrad, I've found people start moving away from that sort of talk, although a lot of 40+ year olds revert back.

That sort of talk starts in elementary school and I've been around a lot longer than that. Don't think I don't know it *exists*. But it's not "most guys" and not mostly to that degree. It's more that every social group has some assholes who think everyone talks like that and try to drag everyone around them down to their level.

And the thing is, the assholes who talk like that don't make it okay, they just highlight the extent of the problem.

So: the crude and boorish stuff that goes between guys? Yeah, it happens. But even among the crude and boorish guy talk, you say what Trump said, you're not just crude, you're an asshole.

I don't really understand the point of temporarily locking this. If there's inappropriate behaviour you should call it out and explain why it's not okay.

In a perfect world, temp lock gives people an opportunity to chill out and understand that flaming is stupid. In the real world, temp lock gives people an opportunity to stew in their own resentment towards anyone with the temerity to disagree with them, so that they can reenter the fight with all guns blazing when the temp lock ends.

Or, we talk to some people in private while the thread is locked and then give everybody another chance. After all, I can always relock the thread or silence people if needed. :-)
