Primer
Watching Primer again for about the 5th time. Still not sure I understand it completely. If you like time travel or movies that really make you think, I'd highly recommend Primer.

So the "yo mama" thread is a hit but one implication that your mother has sex for money somehow crosses the line?
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Apr 13 UTC
Not appropriate in this thread. Keep the filth about other people's mothers to the filthy jokes about other people's mommas thread. You'll not I haven't participated there yet my mother was included in your joke.

Wait...what was this thread about again?
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Apr 13 UTC
It is supposed to be about music - people's taste - old school versus kiddie pop versus alt rock versus country, etc. Forget the OP, it was a stupid topic made by Nigee to taunt the mods yet again as he claims I should be a mod when we all know there is no way in hell I should ever have the chance to have that responsibility here.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
10 Apr 13 UTC
I think I can claim one of the most varied tastes in music on the here around

Bad Religion
Led Zeppelin
Within Temptation
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Vitamin String Quartet
Anti-Flag
Flogging Molly
Glenn Miller
Nirvana
Johnny Cash

Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Apr 13 UTC
I've heard of and like most of those and, as a trained Jazz trombonist (spent time at UC's CCM), I better know and love Glen Miller.

1)Maynard counts as one, so Tool, A Perfect Circle, Pussifer
2) Def Tones (esp. The passenger with Maynard guesting)
3) chevelle
4) sys of a down
5) otep
6) scarling (and earlier jack off Jill same band to me)
7) Kittie
8) Iron Maiden - powerslave and earlier. Up the irons!
9) Black Sabbath - Ozzy and Dio only
10) Pantera - philcore ... Duh! FUCKING HOSTILE!!!
11) Skrillix
12) primus - Les Claypool is god!
13) 7 Seconds (talk about an awesome cover - 99 red balloons)
14) Op Iv - invented ska-punk!
15) Minor threat

It's really hard to narrow down to 15, I tried to group by different times in my life, because I could easily come up with 15 old metal, 15 punk, 15 classic rock, etc.

Hey speaking of The Wall. I got the DVD version about 10 years ago, I had the VHS about 20 years sk and still have the album on vinal somewhere packed away.

One of you experts tell me why the bel they cut out the following on the DVD Before Good Bye Blue Skies

"look mummy, there's an aeroplane up in the sky"

It was in the original, but not on the DVD ... What the hell?

I don't listen to music as much as I used to so I might not be as up with the contemporary stuff as I used to be. Here are a few of my enduring favourites (I'll live out the Beatles and the Beach Boys because I think they go without saying)

Teenage Fanclub
Pavement
Yo La Tengo
Fountains of Wayne
Spoon
Daft Punk
New Order
Nirvana
Phoenix

My favourite recent iTunes download was a cover of the Scientist (Cold Play) by Willie Nelson (amazing - much better than the original). I also recently downloaded the album Cold Fact by Sexto Rodriguez which I have been getting into.

Look folks, I wasn't saying limit yourself to 15. I just threw that up there cause it was the time I had and I was on my phone. List *all* your favorites. It would take me a fulld ay probably to list everyone I love because of my huge range from Classical to Classic Rock, Jazz Standars to Big Band to Swing to Dixieland to Fusion to Smooth Jazz to Cool Jazz, R&B to Soul, Metal to Alternative. About the only thing I don't like is gangster rap where cops or fodder for drive-by shooting and women are hoes to be used and abused. Oh, and I don't do pop-country. Bluegrass is great and older C&W (Johnny Cash, John Denver, Glen Campbell, etc) is great, but I can't stand the new shit.

Haha. Yes I liked that typo. If only I had thought to call myself that.
Btw I too am a terrible mobile typist and I never proof read. Lol.

Draug I looked at your list and while there were many undeniably classic bands there One band I have come to like in recent years is Steely Dan. They have really grown on me. I only have a best of, but I have been meaning to listen their albums sometime.

There list of hits, like the Eagles, Stones, and Aerosmith, span decades. But I think my favorite of their albums is either Aja with Deacon Blues, Peg, and Josie (plus Aja, Black Cow, Home at Last, and I Got the News rounding out the list) or Can't Buy a Thrill with Do It Again, Dirty Work, and Reelin' in the Years. Right behind them are Gaucho with Hey Nineteen and Pretzel Logic with Rikki, Don't Lose That Number.

@Hecks Catch 22 but no Less Than Jake?

And so many more.

@Celtic,
I was only into ska for a very brief period in high school. Catch-22 stuck, Less Than Jake didn't. Sometimes there's no explaining why one band sticks with you and another doesn't.

I have 17 Gig of MP3s ripped from my CD collection (yes, I legally own them) and I'm sure I am still missing someone from the list...

Chuck Mangione
Diana Krall
Keiko Matsui
Geroge Benson
actually I could list dozens more smooth jazz artists...

Vince Guaraldi (Peanuts composer and performer)
Miles Davis
Stan Kenton
Maynard Ferguson
Charlie Parker
and dozens more classic jazz artists...

Deodato
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
Herbie Hancock
Chick Corea
Al DiMeola
Pat Metheny
Stanley Clarke

Oh God the list goes on and on...
I wouldn't call U2 the band of the 90's Draug, they've given the best of themselves in the 80's.
spyman (424 D(G))
10 Apr 13 UTC
U2 did well in both decades. They reinvented themselves successfully for the 90s starting with Actung Baby in 1991, which is a classic album.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Apr 13 UTC
But there were better bands *in* the 80s, IMHO. For instance, The Who did some of their best in the Early 80s and Prince and the Revolution did Purple Rain in 84. Although I will admit The Joshua Tree (87) is my favorite of their albums not from previous material (like U218). It has their big three songs on it.

The 80s really need to be split in to several different areas because there were so many styles of "rock" from Punk to Hard Rock and MEtal.
