Question: Is the "Republic vs. Democracy" thing just an American thing?

I've heard Americans talk about how "America is a republic not a democracy". Using the standard definitions of those words it doesn't make any sense, however if you use the ridiculous definitions those people come up with than it is true. Does anyone outside of the US use this ridiculous dichotomy or is it just Americans?

People You Know

So, when it comes to friends and family, one should only play password protected games with them. But what about people I am meeting at face to face games in clubs in my state? What about if I start getting involved in the tournament scene? How do the more experienced players on here handle it? At what point does it become inappropriate to play in public games with people you have met through the game?

I never got that PM. Mafia players should receive the VT PM. I read Chaqa's opening flavor post and it appeared to say that the Brotherhood was from the Wasteland, i.e. Wastelander = member of the Brotherhood. Prior to that, the town was referred to as people of the capitol (which Chaqa misspelled but whatever). I didn't go out of my way to look for a contradiction. Look back at the OPs if you think I'm full of it.

I know, and I'm not blaming anyone for my screw up. I don't want anyone to look at it that way. What I want you all to understand is that I'm not just asscrack stupid. I read the opening flavor, saw something I thought was conclusive, and didn't bother double checking the VT PM because I thought I had my answer.

I think being PMed the VT role when you are NOT a GYM Would cause all kinds of confusion. Bo_Sox just needs to learn to read. A quick look at the Wikipedia page for Fallout 4 or Fallout 3 would also have helped.

When we had the "Enders Game" flavour and the "Hungry Games" flavour I took the trouble to look those up on wiki because I wasn't familiar with them, to avoid any flavour related slip ups and to allow me to breadcrumb if I wanted to.

I don't know if this has been asked before, so here goes:

The end of most of the role PMs state the win condition this way:

Town: "You win when the Mafia and the Bioterrorist have been eliminated, and there are remaining living town players."

Maf: "You win when the Town has been eliminated, and there are remaining living mafia players."

I note that the word "players" is plural. Does this mean that there must be more than one player left alive in order to fulfill the win condition?

I asked about that and apparently not. It's just really badly written. I did suggest the GMs re-draft it. They stayed that the intention was that town couldn't win if all townies are dead - but as you rightly point out, the mis-use of the plural implies that if, for instance, a single townie is the last player alive, town doesn't win....

Well I think I understand what they meant, but I'm never sure if I missed some kind of win condition from earlier on (i.e., if everyone else dies, the bioterrorist wins even if he's dead), so I had to ask.
