Question: Is the "Republic vs. Democracy" thing just an American thing?
I've heard Americans talk about how "America is a republic not a democracy". Using the standard definitions of those words it doesn't make any sense, however if you use the ridiculous definitions those people come up with than it is true. Does anyone outside of the US use this ridiculous dichotomy or is it just Americans?

People You Know
So, when it comes to friends and family, one should only play password protected games with them. But what about people I am meeting at face to face games in clubs in my state? What about if I start getting involved in the tournament scene? How do the more experienced players on here handle it? At what point does it become inappropriate to play in public games with people you have met through the game?

Question.
Just curious no real reason for asking but I thought mods were suppose to notify you why they locked your threads? I mean how can people learn what they did wrong (if anything) if they don't tell us?
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
17 Oct 16 UTC
Not referencing anything in particular but just curious if that's a fair request should a thread he locked.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

It's too bad the site rules don't answer this exact situation for you and explain what to do if you need an appeal...oh wait:

"As users have their own set of responsibilities, so does the moderator staff. As representatives of the WebDiplomacy users, the moderators will be held accountable for disciplinary decisions. While judgement regarding forum rule violations remains at the sole discretion of the moderator staff, users will be provided with a clear warning regarding rules violations in either a forum post or private message. Users can appeal any moderator's decision by sending an email to [email protected] specifying the grounds for the appeal. The appeal will be dealt with by one of the admins who was not involved in the original decision or by the site owner. Appeals made on behalf of other members will not be considered. The outcome of an appeal is final.

Please keep all appeals to email. When multiple forum threads are made about a moderation decision the resulting confusion becomes a frustration for members and moderators alike. There may be a formal explanation and discussion on moderator decisions in the forum, but the moderator staff will never disclose information that may contain personal information about members or about the methods used to enforce the rules. In situations where multiple threads are opened on a specific topic the site administrators may close the duplicate threads and open an official thread to explain the issue and give the final determination on the appeal."
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
17 Oct 16 UTC
This isn't an appeal. I'm citing nothing in particular. We can get into the reality that somewhere on the web there is always a situation mimicking anything theoretical I could have imagined here. If that mimicry I coincidentally on this forum then wow maybe I should play the lottery.

Doesn't really answer it. My question was whether mods were suppose to notify when they locked threads of if they could just lock threads without telling us.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

All recently locked threads appear to have mod posts at the bottom. These are there to be read; not just for a bit of fun. If you're not sure why a thread has been locked; I recommend reading said posts.

A quick check tells me that zero threads have been unlocked in the past week. I suspect you may simply have been mistaken in your original premise.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
17 Oct 16 UTC
No no no. My account was logged off and everything. I had to log back on and when I did get back on the thread was locked I assumed those went hand in hand (since Webdip is never logged off on my phone.) ; if not maybe I experienced an unknown bug. In which case I apologize for being snarky; and instead want to make note of it.

Can you not read CommanderByron?

"users will be provided with a clear warning regarding rules violations in either a forum post or private message"

The only reason a thread is locked is a rules violation. Your question is covered by the site rules. Either make a formal complaint or stop the passive aggressive shit.

CommanderByron (801 D(S))
18 Oct 16 UTC
I didn't ignore the rules. If you saw my explanation my thread was locked and I was given no reason not in PM, not in email, not in the thread. I wasn't appealing it, if it was locked I didn't give a damn. Just being a douchebag like always! For my own entertainment and to get a rise out of easily frustrated asshats like yourself. So god jmo, inscribed of rules, the original comedy cube, ruler of being easily frustrated here is too you: piss off!

jmo1121109 (3812 D)

I saw your explanation, what I still don't see is any sign of intelligence. If you were concerned that you weren't given a reason then you should have emailed the mods for an appeal instead of crying on the forum. For someone who "didn't give a damn" you sure have bitched about it enough. And CB, if I was easily frustrated I would have left this site a long time ago. I just enjoy giving dumb ass-hats who take away from the site by wasting mods time a hard time. Because wasting mods time is taking time away from them catching people cheating, and it discourages other people from volunteering their time.

in a recent poll 7% of Americans value the continuity of government by supporting Gary Johnson for president. The other 93%? well they are split between a Guinea pig mounted atop a racist cantaloupe; and a half robot, half human she-devil.
