The Electoral College
Why not start a rousing discussion about the whether to keep the Electoral College or do away with it? We need a distraction from this wacky presidential election.

The deep south? (Very not surprised if its South Carolina or Alabama)

@ND - bullshit, i've working in polling centers in ireland, and the instructions we were given were to not ask for id, (because people might be offended) also polling cards are acceptable.

We were expected to check 1 in 4 people and this could be done by waiting for people to come up with passport in hand (because passport is the only id everyone can have) Also it was not enforced by any means.

So please remove Ireland from your list. It is not realistic.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

All registered voters would have a polling card posted to them at their registered address. And yes this explicitally excludes the homeless from being able to vote. Which is pretty crappy form of inclusion.

BB wrote "Youd be surprised how fearful the inner cities are of Cops, ID's, government. Many Black men dont carry an ID or even own one. Its a different life."

But as you did in the 60ies civil rights movement,  make sure all those black men get an id and get them out voting too. And so should everyone else do too!

Remove that silly requirement to register in advance!

Well if you registered to vote and you have your registration card. Why do people assume that Minorities would be filling the voting booth and comitting voter fraud. you do realize voter fraud is a felony right? Who the hell would risk a felony just to keep Trump out of office?
brainbomb (290 D)
15 Oct 16 UTC
I understand it has happened before. but its been far more often, and more sinister that the biggest voter fraud moments in elections have been from ballots being thrown out in florida (favored republican outcome), and dead people's votes somehow counting (chicago style voter fraud)
brainbomb (290 D)

ballots with hanging chads that werent punched properly, and electronic voting machines having deliberate confusing screen options, I remember one year they put Ralph Nader at the top of the ballot in some state, instead of the top two candidates. Some states just set things up weirdly, and its not fair that they ask the VOTERS to be honest, when its crooked election commissions.

End rant

No one does. But why not fix your electoral system is you can?

If you can.

because it our election system is insane. you have big money, big banks, walking talking clown polar opposite candidates, redistricting, gerrymandering, states using 97 different voting systems instead of making it standardized state to state, youve got long lines at the polls, ballots thrown out for using machines that dont punch the holes properly, youve got people blaming one political party or the other for 1 key issues when theres about a 1000 problems. Fixing the electoral college has nothing to do at all with improving the election. Republicans arguing that the electoral college needs to change need to study history. They havent won a GENERAL election in 2 decades.

okay, correction, GW Bush did indeed crush the hell out of John Kerry in the popular vote
orathaic (1009 D(B))
15 Oct 16 UTC
@" walking talking clown polar opposite candidates" - em, i hate to tell you, the two major candidates are rather similar in lots of their policy positions.

Like if you took the range of Jill Stein to Gary Johnson, yeah that would be a fairly sizable difference, comparable to most European parliamentary systems. But third parties are consider worth nothing in the US... so yeah, two very similar candidates if you ask me.

ND (879 D)

everyone needs an ID to vote. It's ridiculous that we don't have that. Also not everything is about race like the 'identity politics' democrats want you to believe. This issue is about the sanctity of the vote and common sense hence the reason why we need an ID to vote.
brainbomb (290 D)

Again the people **Least** likely to have an ID are poor, inner city, minorities. To deny them the right to vote because they dont go get an ID also is suspicious.

Question: Is the Imperial Senate trying to stile voters?
In a recent gallup poll, surveys discovered voters are apathetic about the upcoming elections. "I dont think we ever imagined it would come down to Jar Jar or Emperor Palpatine as our only options".

Why no messages setting option?
Why is aviable the no messages setting? I think is against the essence of the game, that's diplomacy. Nevertheless this option is very common. I think Diplomacy without diplomacy is like basketball without basket (or ball if you prefer). What do you think about it?

Question of Electoral Ethics
For the district where I'm registered to vote, the US representative seat is only being sought by one person. By Oklahoma state statute, unopposed candidates don't even appear on the ballot, nor is there the opportunity to write-in a candidate. Do you think the name of unopposed candidates should be printed on the ballot?

Diplomacy via Whatsapp in German or English
Hey guys, so a group of players from a German site came up with the idea of creating a gunboat game, exchanging phone numbers and communicate solely via whatsapp. I though that the idea is pretty cool and would love to try it out.

Full Press Explanation
I searched the rules and the faq. I may be dense. I cannot find an explanation of what full press means. Also, is it illegal to send a PM to one of the players in a game if the players are not anonymous? For example, if I see the deadline ticking down and my ally hasn't put in orders, may I send her a PM to alert her that she might miss the turn?

Unranked games have counted towards GR
Hey just wanted you guys to know that GR has been broken for a while now, with unranked games being counted towards GR since it's been integrated.

Do not worry, I've already contacted the mods, and they are working feverishly to fix the problem and it should be fixed by the next GR update, but I felt that all of you should know. Hold on one second while I get my proof for this.
