Writers
How about in the spirit of friendship, we share poems and short stories and jokes we've made up and things like that? Of course we all have opposing political ideas, they wouldnt be politics if we didnt right? but we can still all get along and value each others input too.

As promised, I have compiled a listing of a variety of statistics covering 1001 consecutive games. I did not calculate the following types of games since they throw off the statistics in one way or another:

Noobs annoyingly stupid
There is this game in which Austria, a noob in his first game ever doesn't want to ally with I and T and prefers to grant E a victory instead of going for a draw.

Why are so many games passworded?
Can someone explain why most games require a password. Surely new and inexperienced payers will only get better by playing with good and experienced players.

I'm looking testers to join a game, specifically testing 1) in-game instant messaging and 2) Adaptation of the "Fall of the American Empire" 10-player variant (see http://careyj.com/dip/map/EMP/initialMap_small.png )

rlumley this time you have to admit that I really managed to troll the forum
hellalt (70 D)

You should be able to know by now.
The only reason I keep on doing this is that I can't stand people that are bigger egoists than me.
wydend (0 DX)

I understand where hellalt is coming from, but that is why the point system is useful. If you have more points, you can create high pot games to avoid the "crappy noobs". Surely people new to diplomacy should be able to play games as well right? So they can have low pot games and the better players can have their high pot games. You can also password your games so that you know who is going to play. I find that avoiding the problem is easy.

Talking about egoists lets examine one from an ongoing game
Here is the dialog:

Me: Is there any chance we could cancel this game?
I am out of points and I need some to continue playing in the TMG Trophy
None of my games are anywhere near to end so I need to cancel some to make it.
If you agree vote cancel
I guess Russia wont agree...

Russia: I've never cancelled a game, and I feel you plight. Why not just plough into England and win the game quickly. I guess planning and timing are everything. By the way, what is the TMG trophy?

Me:http://phpdiplomacy.tournaments.googlepages.com/themasters

Russia: Well, good luck. Will they wait for you next game?

Me: no they wont

Russia: Well, then I'm sorry. Why did you spend your last 101 on this game?

Me: They weren't the last at the time I joined in.
Saying you're sorry doesn't really helps me, does it?
So just spare it :P

Russia: OK then. You asked. Such is life. Don't reallly feel sorry for you with that attitude. Good luck.

Me: Well I'm sorry I don't like hypocrites who say they are sorry but do nothing. Good luck to you too.

Russia: I don't like people who expect others to cover for their screw ups. I don't pause games, I can't imagine cancelling. Take responsibility for your short-sightedness. Don't be pissed because the rest of us don't cover for you. But much luck. And I really did mean I was sorry, but that was before you showed me why I shouldn't be. Good luck in your other games.

Me: It seems you are the one that got pissed dude.
I just asked for something.
You could have plainly say no and that would be the end of it
But don't try to play it a smartass to me
"Good luck in your other games"
Is that supposed to imply that I will have no luck in this one?
Well, good luck to you for this game.
You are really going to need it
hellalt (70 D)
26 Oct 09 UTC
Russia: You really do have a chip on your shoulder. I mean good luck in all the games. Try to lighten up a little. I know you have trouble when you don't get your way, but get over it and grow up. You asked for a favour and acted like your deserved the cancel. You gave the sob story about it. I said no. Grow up and good luck in all your games. I would never play smartass with you, you probably wouldn't understand the jokes. Grow up.
Me: You cant stand not having the last word, can you?
hellalt (70 D)
26 Oct 09 UTC
Vote: Who's the biggest egoist. Me or Russia?
wydend (0 DX)
26 Oct 09 UTC
I would vote you because you believe that the game should be cancelled because you do not have enough points to enter the next game of the TMG Trophy; a predicament that can only be blamed on your lack of foresight in not leaving yourself enough points to continue.
hellalt (70 D)
26 Oct 09 UTC
I never said that the game SHOULD be canceled. I just asked for a cancel.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Watch out, hellalt, here comes the WAAAAbulance.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Oct 09 UTC
You should never have asked. Cancel should be reserved for games that get screwed up for one reason or another (too many CDs, orders got screwed do to a game pause error, etc.) and not because a whiny little girl decides she wants to have her points back and so she can go play another game.

Grow up, hellalt.
wydend (0 DX)
26 Oct 09 UTC
True, but then you proceeded to attack him by saying "Just spare it", which created the entire argument. You thrive on creating controversy and being the center of attention.

For example when you say:
"But don't try to play it a smartass to me
"Good luck in your other games"
Is that supposed to imply that I will have no luck in this one?"

It is obvious that you just want the argument to continue, because that implication is quite a stretch. Someone is just trying to be courteous and you are making it into a pissing match.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Oct 09 UTC
P.S. You are getting better at trolling by making everyone think you're a whiny little asshole. And this from a guy who claimed in another thread to actually like you in some ways...
wydend (0 DX)
26 Oct 09 UTC
well put Draugnar.
hellalt (70 D)
27 Oct 09 UTC
that's just unfair.
You are all prejudiced against me.
I can ask for a pause, cancel or draw.
People have the right to turn it down.
But there is no reason to attack someone just because you don't like his request
wydend (0 DX)
27 Oct 09 UTC
He didn't attack you! You attacked him. All he said was sorry and good luck, and you spun it. And I have no prejudice against you. I have played one game with you and we did little communication as you were eaten up quickly because you were Austria. Don't play it like I have some sort of prejudice against you.
hellalt (70 D)
27 Oct 09 UTC
Just spare it was followed by :P to suggest this was meant as humor.
Like I said before what that dialog proves is that most people here are even more egoists than me.
Talking to me is just like seeing your faces in the mirror.
And you surely don't like what you see.
hellalt (70 D)
27 Oct 09 UTC
"So just spare it :P

Russia: OK then. You asked. Such is life. Don't reallly feel sorry for you with that attitude. Good luck."

If saying " just spare it :P" can be considered an attitude then I guess self censorship is installed deep into your culture
hellalt (70 D)
27 Oct 09 UTC
maybe you should also self lobotomize yourselves
wydend (0 DX)
27 Oct 09 UTC
No talking to you is not like looking in a mirror, and I will give you that he responded a bit harshly, but putting :P next to things doesn't make them not provoking. If I said, "You're a dick. :P" would you be fine with it?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
27 Oct 09 UTC
"Well I'm sorry I don't like hypocrites who say they are sorry but do nothing."

This sentence is pure gold.
hellalt (70 D)
27 Oct 09 UTC
if you consider "spare it :P" equal to "you are a dick :P" then you should check out the way you understand and interpret language
wydend (0 DX)
27 Oct 09 UTC
No I don't. But saying "So just spare it :P" is going to get a negative response even with the silly ":P"
hellalt (70 D)
27 Oct 09 UTC
I agree. The true question is why such a remotely aggressive sentence will trigger a negative response. Maybe because people are used to respond negatively? Not only in games and forums but generally speaking.
wydend (0 DX)
27 Oct 09 UTC
I would say that that is a fair assessment. Maybe he should of just let it go, but I think that nowadays that is very uncommon.

Anyone speak Swedish?
Browsing Wikipedia I read that one of the founders of The Pirate Bay was implicated in a robbery of a primary school, and his blood was found at the scene of the crime. The source is in Swedish though, thought I'd try my luck and see if anyone could translate the relevant parts?
