@ hellalt - Glad you appreciated my humor there. You know I like you dude. We have a similar volatile attitude and I think you are like me in that you can get into a brawl with a guy one evening and the next be knocking back some drinks and sharing tall tales of conquest with him. But your diplomatic tact in game is actually part of the issue for you. Of course, the only times I've played you, you were eventually going down and so the ranting started. For all I know, when you are doing well, you keep your cool and are very convincing, which is why you have more wins than my measely 1.

I took over a CD Austria in a losing position. Germany was the only one that wasn't upset I took over the CD. When he defeated Italy and Turkey and then offered me survival, I was more than happy.

But the whole time you were saying: "He stabbed me, he stabbed me, he'll stab you, better help me." So yes, normal behaviour, for you.

Hellait, how can you possibly rant at someone for making what you consider to be a mistake in his first game? I've played 90+ games and have probably made mistakes either diplomatically or tactically or both in all of them. That is the only way, I'm going to learn to be a good player - I'm stilll learning, and prob always will be.

Give the guy a break. I think you should calm down and offer the guy a fulsome apology, we don't want to drive away anybody but especially not new players.

Btw I never needed your help as you imply. I just needed you and everyone else to stop Germany from winning.

I'm not talking about a mistake rather that the decision to let someone win a game instead of securing a draw just because you don't like a person.

It may have been his decision, and it may have been a mistaken decision. All I'm saying is give the guy a break, and don't assume that other people's motivations for playing are the same as yours.

Oh, I was waiting on you to quote that game. Here's one straight from you're keyboard:

And you said that because:

1. You get stabbed by Germany and he is basically a shoe-in for the win.
2. You in global: "to all great powers interested: France is now at war with Germany. Pick your side and contact for plans"
3. No one contacts you.
4. You get upset in global and try to flame Germany.

So who are you to tell another player not to team up with someone that didn't stab them just because they will win the game? Allying with Germany was the only way to ensure my survival and my CD bet. Allying with you was, and remains to be, a messy headache.

These threads about players being too ignorant to agree to a joint stalemate line against a stronger player pop up all the damn time and it's always: "This [idiot player] refuses to fight [probable winner] with [me whiner] even though it's what common sense tells him he should do."

If you're playing a game based on what you think other players should do, you're not playing diplomacy very well, and it's likely no one's fault but your own that you're in a position to fight [probable winner] needing [idiot player's] help, you damn [whiner.]

Actually, if you believe that a player can claim to be playing Diplomacy while helping the winning side to win in a WTA game, then you are worse than noob179. At least he didn;t hallucinate he had serious arguments like you do...

the nice thing about diplomacy is that if you help someone win, you aren't actually sending thousands of your troops to their deaths.
this is a game and if someone is ruining it by being a dick to a new player, I see no problem with then giving away the win as a little payback.

Seriously, hellalt. It's just a fucking game to most of us. We aren;t blood thirsty in game and will play for the revenge even if it costs us the win. I know there are some of you who don't agree, but the world does not revolve around Diplomacy and winning isn't always everything, but having fun is the top most priority for most. I fyou aren't having fun playing the game, why the hell play it? It's not like you are making money at it.

Throwing the game (or threats to throw the game) happens in just about every game imho

And the ultimate manipulation is the threat to throw the game, especially when your opponent knows you just may do it. It's as valid a strategy as any other...
