Obama/Department To Halt Deportation of "Dreamer" Illegal Immigrants
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/report-white-house-halt-deportation-young-illegal-immigrants-133800284.html

I applaud this...I think it's a great decision...Obama to give a speech on this shortly around 10:15 Pacific Time. Thoughts on the decision itself and the impact on the 2012 race>

Banning skinny people from a gym...because it "brings down morale"...
Isn't that sort of like getting rid of all the smart kids in class because it makes the schmucks who think "The Day After Tomorrow" is scientifically accurate feel badly when they fail? WHEN did the West develop this "fear of failure" self-esteem issue?

There Can Be Only One--Which Actors/Films Pull Off The Character Best?
The many Bonds...the many Doctors...the different Darens...different Marx Bros. and Stooges...the many Hamlets and Holmes...the originals and remakes and re-imaginings...

Give a role with multiple actors, or a story with multiple adaptations, and say which one you take over the other(s) and why...which are the DEFINITIVE portrayals and films, and which are...not? ;)

What is Christianity?
Obviously, I know that its like one of the most popular religion out there but coming from a very anti-christian background, I dont really know what they actually believe. I know the basics like that Jesus is God but like how do you get into heaven and stuff? This is NOT a debating forum.

A bit embarrassing that it ends in a 2-way if it is called a 'class', but I'm interested in other's thoughts. There are some frustrations I had with the game, but I'm not bitter because I lost. Feel free to share your feelings, especially to the 8 (we had a sub) that played.

How can you deal with obtuse 'morons' who will never give credit to opposing arguments?
Serious question. When you're debating, discussing, or arguing with people and they simply won't accept other points of view, even after reams of evidence, how can you respond? Is it best just to walk away or should we strive to educate?

How would you deal with someone utterly convinced that the Earth was flat, for example?

Besides, if you add up the dates in the bible, you get somewhere around 3936 BC (I did it myself). Therefore, the flood happened in 2280 BC, and the Exodus in 1482 BC.

Technically, Sbyvl, the Bible is not "recorded history" dating back to 3936 BC. It is, technically, only telling a story that (supposedly) goes back to that point in time. To use Genesis as recorded history is about as valid a choice as using Hesiod, Lucian, or Herodotus. Moreover, there is evidence of human life dating back before 3936 BC, even if it isn't "recorded history."

But I don't see the correlation between how old recorded history is and how old the world is ... unless you don't believe in evolution.

Give me proof that that the bible was made up. Archaelogical evidence suggests that biblical events were true. Especially the Flood, and the plagues of the Exodus. And there is recorded history of the magi visiting Jesus.

"there is no recorded history beyond 4000 BC."

I find this is an odd argument for a theist.

You're basically saying that you need proof, you need "recorded history", to prove that the Earth has a history beyond 4000 BC. If this is the basis for thought, many stories relating to the Christian God and religious texts fall apart.

Actually the flood was proven to be untrue...
BreathOfVega (597 D)
20 Jun 12 UTC
Is there a reason not to "believe" (actually you don't need to believe, since if you want you could replace the scientists doing the experiment) that time can be measured with radioactivity and masses' percentage in isotopes?

Sbyvl, it depends on what you mean with "recorded"... The question is about world age, not humans' age. If I wanted to doubt science, well I'd doubt that 4000BC datation too.

"Archaelogical evidence suggests that biblical events were true."

Another turnaround. You exploit archaeological evidence when it supports biblical stories - but you don't give any legitimacy to any of the vast archaeological evidence that supports that the Earth's history extends beyond 4000 BC?

I sometimes wonder how we can ever help people like this.

''How can we help people like this'' Your argument is laughable.

I use science when they are reasonable. Can you really comprehend "4.5 whatever" billion years ago. People only live about 80 years. You are saying 4000000000000 years.
