What the hell has happened to double yolk eggs?
Seriously now, where did they go? There were never huge numbers of them, but they cropped up every now and then to provide unparalleled excitement at the breakfast table. Now they seem to have vanished into the murky depths of history along with the space shuttle and the cream that used to float on top of a pint of milk.

Is this evidence that humanity is in terminal decline?

"[name], I'm sorry you don't understand, but given our past interactions, I suspect you don't actually care and are just looking to waste my time. This conversation is considered resolved."

Can someone explain why I keep seeing this in basically every thread (not to me, mind; just in general)? Did someone keep saying it and now it's sort of an ironic in-joke? I don't understand!

Well????
This is a question I love to put to armchair scientists on Internet forums. It puts an end to their ignorant bullshit before it even gets a chance to start.

Video Game Music
Since there seem to be a bunch of video gamers on here I was curious if anyone else had a favorite theme from a video game.

I personally love the opening theme from Final Fantasy 4 (2 in the states).

Teaching Gravity in School
Gravity is not proven and is called the theory of gravity, not the law of gravity. Since its only a theory it shouldn't be taught in school as there is insufficient evidence to prove that things fall towards the ground when dropped.

What if the power of a god were proportional to the number of followers he has?
Assume the god/gods of each religion have divine power proportional to the number of followers. Assume also that gods can carry out divine intervention.
What would happen to the world? Please only consider religions that have a considerable following in the modern day.

Walking Dead redeemed?
Just watched the season finale and it almost makes watching the rest of the show worth it. I won't give you any spoilers but, if you're watching it because you're a fan of the comic and keep waiting for it to get good, watch the finale.

I was on the ghost ratings website and I stumbled upon this link with photos and a video from the recent face to face tournament some of the American WebDippers had. (http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/boston-face-to-face/pictures) It was really nice to see that you had a great time but when I clicked the video what struck me most (bizarrely, I admit) is that, yes, you all have American accents. Of course you would, you're Americans. But it took me by surprise because when I read the writing of various regulars, an American accent is never what I hear the words in. It's always British. The image I had in my mind of abgemacht as the Ian McKellen in X Men/Orwellian 'Big Brother', for example, has been completely dashed by all your friendly American accents. Whenever I'm playing Babak and he's close to solo, I don't imagine a friendly American man, I imagine a Bond villain stroking a cat - again: dashed, dashed, dashed.

Totally random point but I thought I'd share :)

It's because your prose is always so considered and you are omnipresent in this reality.
Actually, if you've ever seen a picture of JM Coetzee, that is exactly how I imagined you.

Oh, I didn't mean that insultingly. By 'frat' I always just think of young jock type guys who drink and party - I think in Britain the term lacks any deeper or more negative connotations that it might do in the...States.

I really want to know which Britian you live in, Sarg. In my part of the UK the term "frat" lacks any meaning whatsoever. I do agree with you on the accents, though. Our American friends really should try harder. Although in my head the opposition sound more like Duke Igthorn from the Gummi Bears than Ian McKellen :p

"I really want to know which Britian you live in, Sarg. In my part of the UK the term "frat" lacks any meaning whatsoever."

What exactly does that mean? Are you saying you are completely oblivious to what the term 'frat' means? If so, why even enter the discussion? If the term lacks any meaning to you than you have know awareness or knowledge of it - I am referring to people that do have an awareness or knowledge of the term. At least in my Britain people comment on things they have knowledge of - rather than denigrating things they freely admit to know nothing about.

Duke Igthorn - are your enemies really so inept? :)

I haven't watched the video, but wouldn't they all have different accents? I mean, people from Boston likely sound about as different from Texans than any other two Anglophone accents sound.
Octavious (2701 D)
22 Mar 12 UTC
Why? Because whenever you describe our country it never sounds anything like the one I live in. I know the UK is quite a diverse sort of place, but never imagined parts of it could be so different, especially as universities mix people from all over the place so you'd imagine they'd all be quite similar. Essentially, Sarg, it's called curiosity.

Duke Igthorn wasn't inept. He was a god damn genius who suffered from the failings of others! King Gregor was a privileged fool who maintained an anti-ogre apartheid and failed to even consider the social and economic benefits of gummi berry juice.

"I haven't watched the video, but wouldn't they all have different accents? I mean, people from Boston likely sound about as different from Texans than any other two Anglophone accents sound."

That would be so if the video featured a whole cast of WebDippers but it only really featured Babak, Crazyter, and Thucydides. Where does Babak come from? I wouldn't know where to place his accent.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
22 Mar 12 UTC
Actually Lando in my experience at least city-dwellers across America tend to have pretty similar accents, usually with just a few vestigial holdover things that stand out and mark your origins.

"bag" with a long "a" if you're from Minneapolis, "pahk" or whatever if you're from Boston. "Nyew Yowark" if you're from some parts of NY. "I'm might hungry" if you're from Texas. And who knows with those west coasters, they're all mutts.

mighty*

i in fact have more colloquialisms than most (thank hick relatives)

so i sometimes realize I am saying things like "might could" "right tired" "awfully nice" "all y'all" "fixin to" and "plum beat" (tired) in polite company.

but i dont think i really have a texas accent; other americans dont say i do anyway.
