I was afraid for a few minutes during the finale that TWD was going to devolve into a Lost-esque scattered characters plot, where each character has a separate storyline while looking for each other after getting separated following the retreat from the farm. Luckily, the writers had enough good sense to avoid that.
That being said, the last two or three episodes (mostly the finale) completely redeemed the show in my eyes. This whole second season, particularly the first half, got bogged down in relationship drama and character conflicts, which is great for a drama with compelling characters, but not for a show about a zombie apocalypse. In the case of TWD, plot drives the character development, and the writers tried to make us care about Sophia even though viewers really didn't give a shit about her. Fortunately, they killed off most of the dead weight (coma girl, that one guy, Dale) and actually had the good sense to leave viewers with a cliffhanger.
I haven't read the comics but have heard promising rumors as to the direction the show is taking and I'm really looking forward to the third season.
