Yeah, some players are obnoxious, Nigee, and it's kind of annoying, but on the other hand, as you suggest even in your first sentence, it's also kind of amusing. I mean, they're obviously hurting themselves no end, because people _are_ going to be annoyed, and aren't going to want to cooperate with them. Not much point getting upset over it.

It's because you're on webdiplomacy they're making fun of you... Seriously grow a spine and live with it, think of it as constructive criticism. I have gotten a few and usually reply back with a, "thank you for your opinion, I shall take it under serious consideration."

I sometimes do it, and I always regret it later. Diplomacy is all about keeping your composture when things don't go your way and also, it should be a pleasurable experience to anyone. SC and Joker, it's a free site and people of all levels play here. They have every right to play how they want regardless of what others think. If they make mistakes who should be their judge and jury, the self-appointed 'experts' who get a few points, win a few points and think they own the site. When you play obnoxious idiots it can be more fun seeing them lose than stop someone else winning just to here them whining like a Yank in a veggie fast-food joint. If people don't like playing with new players then why do they enter anonymous gunboat games. I thought the English had an issue with class but some people on this site think they're something 'cos they learned to play an online game, get over yourselves.

@NigeeBaby, you have the right to play how you want, true, but there is a certain etiquette as well as reasonable expectation on how to play a particular game. For example, in anon full press games, don't go around asking who is whom. In WTA games, understand that it's winner-takes-all, not PPSC; you don't help the guy to solo or don't understand what stalemate lines are. In gunboats, you have to know how to read the support orders (look under "orders" or look at the big map). So, in a wta anon gunboat, it is a reasonable expectation that you know how to read hidden supports, where the stalemate lines are, and when to turn around to stop the solo threat. It is the fundamentals of the game.
If you don't do that, and someone pointed out to you all the things you did wrong, then you either gotta change and learn the way you play that particular variant or continue to receive the name calling.
And why does Sarg and others join live anon gunboat games even with noobs? Because it is extremely improbable to get seven decent gunboat players on at a single time, and so they (we) join gunboat games when we can. They (we) like the adrenaline rush of live games.

There is a certain etiquette in life as well as online games, don't go around verbally abusing people....... that's an etiquette we all know and understand. I was in an anonymous gunboat game yesterday with an 'expert' who continued to work with another 'friend' to the detriment of the game which between they they conspired to lose by their actions. I won't name the expert and the game because that is not the way things are done, they know who they are.
OK so if experts play with 'noobs' and mistakes are made why make a fuss about it afterwards, I've noticed the 'experts' don't complain when they win, only when they lose, maybe I've worked it out; the 'experts' don't like losing :-)

Anybody who sends an email cursing out a newer player for making mistakes is a whiny little prick who takes shit waaaaaay too seriously. I love to hear criticism about my play; I feel I can learn a lot from it. But if its delivered like that I'll just flip the kill switch like OP did.

The same people who are good enough to whine about how newbies can "blow up" an entire game have nobody but themselves to blame when they join a game with newbies.

I purposefully curse people out in talkie games. It often works if used right. I've come back in many games, because when I call someone a douche on global, his neighbor knows I will be a reliable ally against him and will join me only to have me ally with the "douche" later on. I also used to curse people out on Global as I worked with them in private messaging. Best way to hide cooperation is to call someone a fucking moron while in private planning the double stab that will take the real threat down.

Being a dickhead can and is part of the game. While it is true it is childish to curse someone out it is just as childish to get offended.

I can see both sides. Being an ass does probably hurt bullies. People do need to be able to accept playing with jerks on the internet (or start their own site). Public humiliation might be a good tool for some of the bullies (obviously, with Drag it won't work). Better players need to get a life and realize that beginners will miss some of the nuances of the game, and try to act like decent human beings when they communicate.

No, it isn't typical, I don't think, I would guess it is limited to 10 or 20 angry individuals.
Don't leave the site because they either have reverted to their teenage behavior (apologies to well behaved teens who play here). Consider posting their diatribes in new threads for all to be amused. Learn and enjoy.
