I play when I can get to tournaments, nothing big in terms of pro-tour qualifiers or Grand Prix events yet, although if time off from work would allow I would certainly try. I bounce back and forth between running a Mono Red deck and a W/g humans deck. What decks have you been using Geo?

I stopped playing right around Alliances.

I played in the mid to late 90s. Even bought a ton of cards off EBay and built some decent decks. But sold them all off years ago.

I started during Ice Age, but the majority of my serious play was during Urza and Masques block. Some of my friends have showed me the more recent card and it makes me laugh, b/c when I played Urza block it was considered overtly powerful. I occasionally play with my (now) old cards and am just amazed at the power creep that has occurred while I wasn't playing.

I started playing during Unlimited (3rd edition), right after Arabian Nights and before Legends. I had the pleasure of getting two Black Lotuses and a Mox Emerald straight out of the pack. I think I went to every Pre-Release from Mirage to around Urza's Saga.

I still play today, have a couple bozes of the Dark Ascension expansion that came out a few weeks ago. My most recent competitive play was at Origins 2010. These days I usually play sealed deck rather than constructed, but I've got a set of moxes and a Black Lotus if I ever want to play Type I or whatever they call it now.

You can play for free with deckbuilders which allow playtesting, you just need a friend who will advice you on how to hand enforce the rules, just like in FtF. Alternatively, you can try the MicroProse's abandonware Magic: The Gathering, it's fun to play the old cards plus there is quite a modding community built around it so you can download expansions you're interested in if you like the game.

Well, I sold/traded my second BL about 15 years ago. IIRC, I got 18 double lands, a northern paladin, some old valuable ghoul (khabal ghoul?), and $60 cash. Probably overall shouldn't have done it, but at the time that was a hell of a lot for one card and I knew I still had another.

I more or less financed my wedding on my old tournament deck, which had a Timetwister and a bunch of dual lands and such.

Well, my roommate and I just got our first decks. Going to play when he gets off of work. I'm sure we'll teach ourselves how to play slightly wrong : )

You should check out Magic Workstation. I can help you install all the images and the like. Been playtesting decks on there all week. I'm headed to two StarCityGames Invitational Qualifiers this week and at least at the first one I'm probably going to run a version of Solar Flare Control I've been tweaking since last Friday.

Honestly, what I found appealing about MTG is that it wasn't on the computer. I spend way too much time on Diplomacy and LoL. I want a good game that is offline.

Oh absolutely. Without a doubt I prefer the cards.

I played for a really long time. I had a better collection than anyone i knew. All the decks i used to build were lockdown decks with no creatures (none used for attacking like birds of paradise).

The premise was that once my combo hit the table, all you could do was sit there and die.

They included decks like necropotence/lands edge + 60% mana; stasis, kismet, birds and instill, chains of mephistopholes/ anvil of bogardan, and the like that often caused you to lose draw phases, untap phases, etc. i designed them to kill in about 5 rounds.

I owned a timewalk, timetwister, all moxes 5 of each dual land and a plethora of cards now valued at over $200. I sold my collection years ago and its the biggest regret i have to this day.

i have played magic on and off since 1995. its a great game, and if you have enough willing friends a magic draft of whatever the new set is can be a good time.

You can buy 'em all back, Tru Ninja. It'll just cost you more.
