Iceray0: I remember you from the forums, not that I remembered any details until I checked right now. In November '09 you apparently liked 40K and wanted to renounce your U. S. citizenship, but couldn't because you had the misfortune of living in the United States.

I still want to renounce my citizenship and I still like 40k. Although I much prefer Warhammer to 40k. Draugnar! We still need to play a game! I'm back! WOOOO

The question I have about renouncing U.S. citizenship is... for what? I think it's better to run *to* something than away from something. Except the Czech, that is--I run away from him. ;-)

I have no interest in the United States. I wouldn't raise a family here. I leave for Taiwan in 6 months though, so it's all good.

If Iceray0 doesn't want to live here, he can leave. The US government doesn't keep people in (except gitmo) and I would be OK if Iceray0 wanted to move there.

@check, the u.s. is one of the hardest countries to escape from. the irs will try to take as much of your money as from you even if you left the u.s. years ago. and i heard they are currently considering a law requiring u.s. citizens jumping off of the sinking ship that is usa to leave half their assets in the country. so you'd better get moving on that escape plan.

Gitmo is technically Cuba too, we still pay a lease on the land.

But...
if you are a US citizen, you pay taxes even if you live abroad, and you earn abroad.
That's the reason for renouncing US citizenship.

Not only that, but they've started going after people who have *lived all their life in another country* but had the misfortune of being born to an American citizen parent, making them American citizens - often without their knowledge! The IRS then demands that the banks of this foreign country immediately hand over all of the 'citizen's' money to cover "back taxes" and "penalties" which no working stiff could ever possibly afford.

Our government is truly sick and demented - I can understand Iceray's detachment.

I, personally, find it admirable that somebody is willing to sacrifice so much for a principle. Of course, none of that means anything if he Iceray0 can't find another country to live in.
