Something I've never seen
I think I'm joining the party who claims that there should be no secondary objectives (like ensuring Yourself a place within the first 3 or similar) in games besides winning the game. I find it pretty unbelievable that 3! corner countries could cooperate against the rest of the countries for 1,5 decades without making a single move against each-other. Not trying to be a sour loser, but this is really amazing. I will comment further after the game is finished, but I simply had to burst out the emotion.

I seem to have been caught one of the games that disappeared. I signed on to a 100pt game. That game disappeared and so I have no points. Do I get reset to 100 as some point?

Well. I heard enough. All this people: Wooble, mightyrobot, Anlari, TimuraKhan, The Mahatma, Raga, El_Perro_Artero, dangermouse, Thucydides, jesuschrist, haer, Locke, gokhan1735, aoe3rules, think different than me. They are clearlly more than the people who agreed with me. So it is time to step aside.I will finish my games, but I will not answer to any press. Bye bye.

Supporting a convoy
I'm not sure how to successfully support a convoy. FOR EXAMPLE

(this is completely fabricated)
Germany wants to convoy from Kiel to Livonia
Austrian Army in Warsaw agrees to support.

How would austria designate the order to support Germany's convoyed unit?

Of Warp Factors and Wookies.........
OK, for some reason, the Holiday Season puts me in a Sci-Fi mood. Since we've done the whole "Greatest Diplomacy player" thing, and basically drew between Bismark, Alexander, and Ghengis Khah (still think Alexander should have won), let's do Sci-Fi: if you want, of course.

There will be three heats- a Trek Heat, a Wars heat, and then, the winners of each heat will move on, and then we'll combine the two lists, figure out who got the 3rd most votes, then 4th, etc, until we have 7 players for the final.

So, in the Trek heat we have:

Kirk
Spock
Picard
Data
Sisko
Worf
Janeway
Khan (Gotta do it: KKKKKHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!)

In the Wars heat:

Anakin/Vader
Luke
Padme
Leia
Yoda
Palpatine
Obi-Wan

Sorry if your favorite didn't make the list................

Shalom, Live long and prosper, and May the Force be with you!

(Wow- I AM a huge nerd- ah well.)

Beware these Players (One Player?)
The players are Putin, Tsar, Comrade and Spetznatz. I am currently playing in Fast Players in which I was informed by these players that they are allied because they all know each other in "real life", go to the same high school and participate in a model UN together. Pre game alliances make for boring and predictable games. Fcuk that shit. As I mulled over whether to abandon the game on principle I began to suspect these players were the same person. A scan of their games shows a pattern of playing together. They mysteriously log on within minutes of each other in quick succesion year after year. When I gave these players a heads up of an outing on the forum, they all responded with 1 minute. If not the same player, their level of collusion is troubling. It brings no fun to the game played this way. Kestas, I am asking if you could please investigate and shut down this game.

Acused of metagame (diegohb & ssabia)
On the game "Isaac newton" Anlari is acusing me (and Ssabia). He is suspicious because Russia (Ssabia) is attacking Germany (Anlari) after Germany was keeping Russia out of sweden from the beggining.
In the first game I won, Ssabia finished 2nd. Despite the fact that ssabia and I had won games on our own, when we play a game together there is always a smart ass acusing us of metagame (and some other stupid who believe this) . And that leave us with no choice of allies, and therefore, we must work together.
Please, analize the case end post your opinion. If enough people think I am guilty of metagame, I will quit this game.

diegohb- im in the game too (france), and i dont see where Anlari's accusation is coming from... i mean, its only spring '03, so you havent had much time to do anything to help russia... i do not accuse you two of metagaming, and should stay in the game (even though germany is kicking my ass and you happen to be in the english channel and the irish sea... :-) )

Diegohb, I don't think it's OK to discuss a running game in the forum. You can explain your point to other players through the in-game chat or wait until the game ends.
diegohb (470 D)

I am not discussing a game. i am discussing an acussation of metagame.
Popoi (121 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
What exactly does metagame consist of in this context?
Wooble (450 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
You say that when you play together you always ally. That's pretty much the definition of metagaming.
diegohb (470 D)
24 Dec 07 UTC
You should ask Anlari, Popoi.
mightyrobot (202 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
You and ssabia metagame together. I've played a game with you both in and you guys never attacked each other even though you both had open SCs next to each other, and ssabia could have won by taking your open SCs. When I remarked that it is was strange that he doesn't take your SCs for the win, you became very defensive about it and said you were friends in real life. It's no fun playing a game with you both in it if you are always going to ally together.
alamothe (3367 D(B))
25 Dec 07 UTC
diegohb, metagaming doesn't exist. anlari is accusing you just to provoke you. it's all part of the game. if you & Ssabia aren't the same person, you shouldn't feel guilty
MarekP (12864 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
Alamothe is right. Diegohb, you have mentioned a particular game, however everything what is said within a game is a part of the game itself and you shouldn't talk about it in the forum until the game in question is finished.

Please defend yourself in the forum only if you are accused publicly in the forum. If you are accused within a game, defend yourself within that particular game.
bihary (2782 D(S))

So, do you and Ssabia know each other in real life? mightyrobot says you told him so.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
I play with people i know in real life, but that doesn't mean i always ally with them. The only difference between how i play with them and anyone else is that with them i might use a bit more diplomacy because in real life it can be more effective to 'persuade' people to do "as is best for them" aka "what you want"
diegohb (470 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
Oh yesss... mightyrobot, I forgot about you. That guy made a quadruple acussation of metagaming (milt, deigo, sabia & deco). And then took it back. Here is the dialog:

M:i see you play alot of games together. you must be friends in real life.

D: Oh... I see, you dont want to lose so now you will acuse me of metageme, right. One question, if we are both the same person shouldent we be playing together at "Death, Doom, Xbox", the game with more point? I am playing that without him, and I am winning. So think better instead of saying something stupid. (Note: I endup winning this game)

M: you both have spanish names and both log in a similar times and you don't fight one another. do you know him in real life?

D: Unlike you, there are players (like ssabia) who understant that this game is NOT about spiting on everybody´s eyes like you do. They are esplendid teamates, unlike you who are just a liar... "I will support MAO-Por... bla bla bla"
Easy, detective. I am from Argentina and he is from Spain. We were planning to have a coffe, but ther is a lot of water between us, you know... (I was being sarcastic of course)

M: milt, deigo, sabia, deco, .... hmmm....

D: jajajajajajajaj Are you saying that milt, deigo, sabia & deco are the same person?!?!?!?! jajajajajajajajajajajajaja

M: i'm just having fun talking to you. I hope you had fun playing with yourself.

I'll say that the login times that I've noticed have been similar... this isn't proof of metagaming or multiaccounting, though. But I agree that this issue should be held off until the game is completed.

Look, oddly enough its up to people how they play the game. Is it stated anywhere that you CANNOT play with people you know in real life? Or that you shouldn't ally with those that you know more then some random person that opens teh game with "hey wanna ally?" only to backstab u?

If you dont like it, oh darn, because really their right to enjoy the game in teh way they see fit is EXACTLY equal to yours. So by complaining that they are taking away from YOUR game, you are doing the same to them. Grow up and enjoy, or if you can't do that at least suffer in silence so that the rest of us can enjoy.

Cause really, its a game, we're all just here to play and have fun
mightyrobot (202 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
I've played game here with closed friends, and we make agreements and backstab each other like we would any other player in the game. But you go into games with your friend ahead of time and agree that you will cooperate no matter what. It's almost like playing someone with multiple accounts. I wouldn't have brought it here if you weren't defending yourself publicly against someone else making the same complaint. You wouldn't be accused of this so often if your behavior otherwise. I personally won't play anymore games with you.
anlari (8640 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
It is very stupid to bring this here. I just said that it looked suspicious, and was called a 'stupid fuck' in return which was probably deserved. Now if I had anything to base my suspicion on, I would have brought it to here myself. I think there is a whole lot of difference between accusing someone in private and bringing it open to public (like it was done to Rait & me a while ago) as one tends to leave its mark.

As I mentioned in another thread, I do have my suspicions and I often confront the person I'm suspicious about myself (So that they know that people are noticing, and they have their chance to explain) but I would never accuse someone in public without solid evidence.

Now bringing it here yourself so that anyone who has a grudge against you can jump on the accusations, I suppose I am not the only one deserving the title of 'stupid fuck'.
diegohb (470 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
That is what you get when you are accuse without solid evidence, in private or in public. Anlari is no longer your name for me. You are an inmature who cant stand loose a game.
diegohb (470 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
It looks like, in some way, you (Anlari) think everyone should react as your servant. In the game you expect a friendly Russia after you bounce him out of Sweden several times, and you are "suprised" of my insults after you accused me of metagame. You have a funny logic.
anlari (8640 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
Frankly, I couldn't care less.

And please don't take everything I say in the game to be my true beliefs, I and many others often say things to manipulate players.

Speaking of maturity, I don't think you set such a high standard by bringing an open game into discussion here, calling me names and being so annoyed with me over a game.
diegohb (470 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
Do you want to be right at all cost? Do you want me to be a metaplayer? If I dont get a public apologie I will show you what metagaming is...
anlari (8640 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
Eh, I already said that I don't have any evidence and my suspicions are not enough to bring a serious accusation against you in public. As you are the one who took it too seriously and brought it here and I am the one that has been insulted repeatedly, I feel no need to apologize.

"I will show you what metagaming is" No comments.
TimuraKhan (186 D)
25 Dec 07 UTC
The comments on this thread reveal a lot about the maturity levels of some players here.

Personally, I agree with mightyrobot, as i had a similar situation in one of my current games. I sorted it out privately. Turns out, it was just two friends who joined on the same day, and were collaborating and not bothering to reply to my messages. This is fine*, but i thought one key point of this game was to use the messaging system for 'diplomacy'. But anyway, people are free to play how they choose.

* fine != fun. Nor is it challenging for the out-of-game ( i.e. meta-game) collaborators.

I'm saying this again: please stop talking about the game that is not completed!

Or is this just me who considers such behaviour very unfair? Diegohb, excuse me, however despite you are a metagamer or not, I really don't like you took this to the public forum while the game is still running.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
26 Dec 07 UTC
There is no such thing as "metagame," under the definition I was told. If you both "agree" outside the game not to attack, there is no reason that agreement can't be breacked just as easily as an in-game agreement. Not only that, but two countries have open SCs next to eachtother and aren't attacking... this is an alliance, not some breach of the rules. Alliances can be broken like the rest. No reason to complain just because you have no allies, and someone else does.
mightyrobot (202 D)
26 Dec 07 UTC
Thucydides, I disagree. If there is an agreement within the game between players no to attack, that is not a problem. That is part of the game. If two good friends join a game with an agreement not to attack each other, which they both know 100% that the other good friend will commit to, then I think it is not in the spirit of the game. It is essentially team play, which is not quite the same an in-game alliance. It is very similar to a single person running multiple accounts in order to win.

Please vote here YES or NO if you agree with this suggested changes:

1) Implementation of some sort of ip-verification-system (to stop multiaccounters)
2) Anonymous games. (to stop the false acussations)
3) Winner takes all points (no points for 2nd place) and in case of draw the points are divided equally between the drawers.

Anti-Anlari crusade (discuss here)
Hello. I saw enough games ruined by characters like Anlari. To stop this desease, I suggest 3 changes to this website:

1) The hardest to accomplish. We need some sort of ip-verication-system to stop the multi-accounters (or to make the job hardest for them)

2) This is very simple. The games should be ANONYMOUS. That means, none knows the identity of the other players until the game is finished. That way you stop the "Anlari" behaivior ("XXX is metagaming!!! look at game YYY!!! Do not ally with him!!! etc etc)

3) This one is simple too. Lets bring back to life the true spirit of the game. On the Diplomacy Rulebook (4th Edition (C) 2000 Hasbro) is writted: "As soon as one Great Power controls 18 supply centers, it is considered to have gained control of Europe. The player representing that Great Power is the winner. However, players can end the game by agreement before a winner is determined. In that case, all players who still have pieces on the board share equally in a draw". If we apply this to the point sistem: a) the rulebook says there is only 1 winner, so the winner takes all the points (no points for 2nd place). b) if a draw is declared, the poins are divided equally between the players who survived (no matter how many units).

Please, discuss here and please vote YES or NO (to the suggested changes) in the other post.
