Anonymous players games vs not
I'm playing in a game where there has been a discussion in global surrounding the issue of players having played in the same games before. Without mentioning player names and game ID am I safe to start a discussion about this issue here in the forum or should I wait until the game in question is over?

Finding a specific gaming laptop in the Netherlands(/Europe)
Hey guys, I'm looking for a gaming laptop (with some help I came to the conclusion that the ASUS ROG G751JT-CH71 might be the best option, although I'm also still considering the cheaper ASUS ROG GL551JW-DS71). However, I can't really find it in Europe, or elsewhere without paying over $350 in shipping costs. So now I'm wondering if I missed something and/or there are alternative laptops that will work just as well and don't need to be shipped in for a shitload of money.

Emulator
Do you know a good emulator for Diplomacy. I am not talking about a game you play offline with your friends in your living room but more like a game where you can set all the armies and fleets on the map then you start a game. I'm doing some "what will you do in that situation?" questions for my brother.

Tsarnaev- no sympathy
If anything the defense case has left me with even less sympathy for this mass murderer

I'm generally an opponent to the death penalty, and for the most part, I was on board with the defense attorney's argument to deny the guy's wish to be martyred. That was until this week when he broke down when his aunt started crying on the stand. The defense ate it up, showing that the kid is not a monster. But hold on, he sat through graphic testimony about his own murder of three individuals, one of them a boy, and the maiming of several others , along with graphic testimony without batting an eye. This guy is a stone cold killer, he will not feel remorse, he will not be rehabilitated, and the past week has made that especially clear.

Why add one more corpse to the horror of the Boston bombing?
JamesYanik (548 D)
07 May 15 UTC
Thucy, there is an old Ghandi quote, "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"

I personally believe that we are responsible for our actions, in every sense of the word. If you end a life, and feel no (or little) remorse, then I have no problem with execution. The death penalty is a touchy issue, but we need to stand up for what is right. This man is dangerous, and when you end a life, many times you forfeit your own.

That said, my brother is a marine, and I do believe that war and national security is necessary. However, this man does not deserve life. Anyone who defends him, add power to his actions. By letting him live after he killed so many people, it is a precedent of weakness, and lack of will. While it is sometimes correct to be lenient, now is not that time.

Normally I do not support the death penalty, but I'll make an exception for any monster who blows up kids. Send their defective ass back to their maker asap, the world is better off without them.

All a death sentence will accomplish is a never-ending cycles of appeals. The more exposure he gets, the more fucked-up fanatics will want to martyrize him when he dies. Let him rot alone and forgotten for the rest of his life.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

It wouldn't be "lenient" to not butcher this person. Killing him isn't an option. It's inhumane, pure and simple. It isn't justice. It's barbaric revenge.

There are no exceptions to "Thou shalt not kill." This man is not in the act of killing anyone. He has been caught. Keep him imprisoned - but do not kill him. His life is not ours to take.

If you sanction the execution of a person, you cannot morally stand against the murder of children either. They are wrong for the same reasons.
KingCyrus (511 D)

I am against the death penalty in most cases, and in this case as well. There is no necessity of killing this man. Any execution can have only one of two purposes. One, some sort of retribution or revenge for the fallen and their loved ones. I reject this, because it makes us hardly better than those we punish. The second is to install a feeling of fear in would-be terrorists. But isn't this what so many, at least of the Islamic martyrs, want? Rather than ending his life, make him work to better society. Don't put him in a cushy cell and feed him and give him television for life. Give him and his ilk work. Build bridges, roads, train tracks, buildings, etc. Make him work for his bread and water like every other decent human being. He does not need any luxuries in life, such as television or a library. He made his choice to forfeit the comforts of life when he chose to take one (actually several). Let him live his entire life with the weight of his actions, which will constantly deprive him of everything he could have have.

My two cents.
He doesn't feel the weight of his actions,

and for thucydides, as usual just words, "Barbaric," "inhumane," words that in the end mean nothing.

"
Why add one more corpse to the horror of the Boston bombing?"

Because this corpse, you know, planted the boston bomb.

then as usual, faulty logic, if I sanction the execution of a criminal who willingly calculated to kill as many people as possible, I can't be against the murder of children. Got it.
"There are no exceptions to "Thou shalt not kill." This man is not in the act of killing anyone. He has been caught. Keep him imprisoned - but do not kill him. His life is not ours to take."

What, are you religious now? Did you take a theology class?

This case has actually made me think a whole lot about the death penalty. In short, I want this guy to suffer as much as is humanly possible, but is death or life in prison worse?
KingCyrus (511 D)
07 May 15 UTC
Life in what kind of prison? In the current prison system of, say, Sweden, definitely death. I wouldn't mind going to prison in Sweden (or Norway or Denmark, probably).
If he gets life, I just hope they do the right thing and make him serve the sentence in Alaska
KingCyrus (511 D)

I don't see why un-rehabilitatable (yes, I made up that word) should be given the creature comforts that probably the majority of human beings don't have access too personally.

Free healthcare and hot food daily alone seems too good for this guy.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

I honestly think if Americas prison system wasn't so damn nice and caring I would be against execution. What I don't want is to put a guy in prison for the rest of life costing the country more per year than a low income family makes in a year. Take away all the luxuries give him 2 meals of day at the same quality of US public school lunches and make him sleep on the damn floor. I just don't want to say yea the boston bomber is at a maximum security federal prison working on his masters while enjoying the latest episode of family guy, eating better than many American families and without a single responsibility or worry. His roof will always be over his head, his electricity will always be on, he will always be fed. Hell if I can kill someone and get th rest of my life handed to me on a steel platter than I might be tempted to do it. Just saying I think our justice system needs to change.
KingCyrus (511 D)
07 May 15 UTC
Free anything while others work for a living seems to good for this guy. Make him work for his running water (11% of the world doesn't have clean water), electricity (18% of people don't have access to electricity), and three square meals a day (13.5% of people don't have enough food). Why does he deserve better than over one tenth of every other human soul on the planet?
Thucydides (864 D(B))
07 May 15 UTC
There is no moral justification for pure vengeance. Which is exactly what killing him would be. Society does not have the right to kill anyone, however heinous they may judge that their actions have been. Human beings have a right to life. You cannot defend this right and execute people also.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

"I want this guy to suffer as much as is humanly possible"

This is the mentality of a killer. Executing him for the purpose of making him suffer is cruelty defined. Justice is about righting wrongs. Execution rights no wrong - it is itself a wrong.
KingCyrus (511 D)
07 May 15 UTC
Out of curiosity Thucy (I am on your side on not executing Tsarnaev) can society kill anyone? In the act of defense? Say a guy bombed a marathon and then started shooting cops, could the cops shoot him? Or are you a complete pacifist?

@thucydides, unless you are Dare Devil or Deadpool or Batman or Captain America...... then it is A ok....
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

@thucy- I should also clarify I do not agree with execution. I just think we shouldn't be spoiling people who commit crimes. If he gets life in prison then that is between 20,000 and 40,000$ a year annually to house, feed, clothe, and provide luxury.... the federal poverty line for an individual is 11,770.... so I think we should only spend 11,770 at the most on each prisoner.

It is permissible to kill if it is in direct self-defense. Thus a roving human can himself be gunned down if he cannot be safely captured. But when you have already captured him, you have no right to kill him in cold blood, jury or no jury.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
07 May 15 UTC
If that means we cut it down to 1 meal a day (US soldiers in combat receive 2 meals a day and in some cases 1 meal.), remove the cushioned beds and provide only a floor mat and blanket, no electricity in the cells, no luxury items such as television, newspaper, books, and free GED and community college (seriously? my grandfather had to pay to get his GED because he left high school early to help raise his siblings when he father ditched. I owe 11,000+ for my first year in school and I NEVER have committed a crime.)
Thucydides (864 D(B))

We don't spoil peooke who commit crimes. But even the worst criminals should have enough food to eat and medical care. These are basic human rights.
JamesYanik (548 D)

I am not religious, but even they understood death was a reasonable punishment. God forgives, but if one is too dangerous for life, then his 'forgiveness' shall be given at judgement at the gates.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

I'm honestly in shock that you want to make our hellish prisons even worse. Again, vengeance is not Justice.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
07 May 15 UTC
Thucy- I am not suggesting we remove that. We feed our soldiers, and our adolescent students less than we feed our prisoners. School lunches contain less nutrition and cost less than prison meals. That is a shame. You CAN NOT say "basic human rights" and then feed other people to a lower standard.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

The "they" to whom you refer is an ancient tribe in the Middle East. I wouldn't count on their practices for moral instruction.
