In the Year 2525...If Man is Still Alive...If Woman Can Survive...They Will Find...?
Well, what'll they find?

What states or institutions will have risen or fallen? What people will have risen, fallen, maybe even (sadly) disappeared as the result of war or disease? What artists and writers and even shows and films that we care about now will still be praised...and what will make for remarkably-good landfill?

Trick or Treat cancelled. WTF?
Many towns and cities around where I live are "cancelling" trick or treat and moving it to Fri., Sat., or Sun. Question is: Since when is it the cities job/responsibility to tell the citizens if they are "allowed" to go T or T'ing. I should add, yeh, there is some rain and wind (oh,no save me) but it is *nowhere* near a storm. Doesn't change the fact that a town/city (thinks it) has that much *authority* THAT'S BUUUUUULLLLSHIT!!!

HELP ME
I was alone in my basement with the lights dimmed when the power went out. The room went pitch black. I was watching Halloween 4 - the TV didn't shut off for about 10 seconds even after the power went out.

Michael Myers is coming for me.......

I just did the first school test that made me laugh out loud.
So I had to turn -254 into an 8-digit binary number. It took me about 10 minutes to figure it out and now I can't stop smiling :)

How fast would you guys figure it out? And what IS the answer? I just want to hear someone else saying it to be sure, before I can start learning French :)

1) Best James Bond movie & 2) Most underrated James Bond movie
I'm going for....
1) Goldeneye, for the incredibly strong come-back element and its way of weaving recent history into the plot + special effects that are not over the top
2) Living Daylights, I think Timothy Dalton never quite got the credit he deserved

2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Sure Lazenby was no Connery, but he gets panned more than he deserves. They were trying to take it in very different direction, and be truer to the books. We see a much more vulnerable, much more human, much more emotionally and intellectually complex Bond. It was a much better film than it was a movie.

1) Daniel Craig in: Casino Royale or Skyfall - much grittier than past Bond films...get's his *ass* beat, not so much reliance on gadgets

1.) Goldfinger or Casino Royale - both are damn good.
2.) The Living Daylights, you got that one right. No doubt it's one of the best ones.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Oct 13 UTC
1) Goldfinger - Best by far (although Craig's 1st and 3rd outings rate up there)
2) OHMSS - Seriously underrated (just watched it the other evening) with honorable mention to both of Dalton's outings.
Vallk (904 D)
30 Oct 13 UTC
1) Goldfinger or OHMSS
2) I'll have to go with OHMSS here as well, mostly because it's the only one that I know for sure wasn't as popular as the rest of the franchise

1) From Russia with Love (it's not even close)
2) Dr. No

Dalton was the worst bond. License to Kill was godawful.

Putin33 (111 D)
30 Oct 13 UTC
Why? Because License to Kill is incredibly boring, not even a spy flick, and has an absurd ending. Dalton is the worst Bond (although Brosnan comes close) because he didn't have a single quality Bond film, and he almost tanked the franchise.
redhouse1938 (429 D)
30 Oct 13 UTC
wait, you are confusing the two Dalton movies, I mentioned Living Daylights, not License to Kill (which is admittedly not quite so good)
redhouse1938 (429 D)

Living Daylights is the one where they ski on the girl's chello.

And Putin - Try reading Ian Fleming then watch Dalton. He captured the spirit of Fleming like noone before. Craig does an even better job, but Dalton captured Fleming first.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Oct 13 UTC
Oh, and The book, The Man With the Golden Gun is not a spy novel either, nor is "The Spy Who Loved Me, which is told from the girl he rescues perspective.

The reason people liked Bond was because it was not too serious.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Oct 13 UTC
That may be the reason people liked the Bond movies, but the books were around for 10 years before Dr. No was made into a movie. And the books are *very* serious. Read Casino Royale and tell me it isn't serious. Craig played the role perfectly.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

From Russia with Love is by far my favorite.

Quite frankly, I wasn't a fan of the books. The racism was so intense it really detracted from the stories.
redhouse1938 (429 D)
30 Oct 13 UTC
Well the sexism that replaced it is definitely more entertaining
redhouse1938 (429 D)

And I agree with Putin, but that's very much a personal touch added by Roger Moore (a brilliant Bond)
goldfinger0303 (3157 DMod)

1) Goldfinger by far.
2) Goldeneye. I don't think that it gets quite the acclaim of the other Bond movies, but it was Brosnan's best one.

And I think Putin has a point - Bond films are not meant to be so serious. Skyfall was an excellent, excellent movie. But I walked out of it thinking "Wow, what a shitty Bond movie" because its not what I walk into a theater expecting.
krellin (80 DX)

Goldfinger is good, yes. Then there is the little known off-broadway LGTB remake "Brownfinger"...
krellin (80 DX)

"The reason people liked Bond was because it was not too serious."

I kind of agree with this, as far as the majority of them go....except Daniel Craig put a very serious spin on Bond, turns him in to a guy with real emotional problems that drive him, and pretty much re-writes Bond in to a very serious franchise and pulls it off well.

1) Casino Royale
2) Living Daylights

1. Goldfinger. Its really not even close. Casino Royale and From Russia With Love are both excellent, but Connery's Bond is unmatched.

2. Thunderball.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
31 Oct 13 UTC
1. From Russia With Love (no contest, although Casino Royale and Skyfall were both exceptionally strong)
2. You Only Live Twice/Goldeneye (You Only Live Twice is quite good if you overlook the corny/unrealistic 60s Space Age plot. Brosnan was outstanding in Goldeneye and Goldeneye has some of the strongest action out of any Bond movie. He drives a goddamned tank through St. Petersburg (after straightening his tie, of course))
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
31 Oct 13 UTC
Thunderball gets overlooked a lot too. The underwater fight scene at the end was awesome and ground-breaking. I also loved the plot; I thought it was the most realistic of the Connery movies, with the possible exception of From Russia With Love.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Oct 13 UTC
It depends on the specific book, but considering all 12 of the original novels and both short story compilations were written before 1966 and the first 7 novels were published in the 50s, it's kind of pointless to hold them to a modern standard where racism and sexism are concerned.

Best:

Goldfinger. That being said, GoldenEye is my personal favorite, a Top 5 Bond film and the one that made me a fan (likewise, Connery's the Best Bond, but Brosnan's probably my personal favorite.)

Most Underrated:

A few films have already been listed that could fit this just as well...

So I'll go ahead and give a shout out to Tomorrow Never Dies--

Not flawless, but a heck of a lot of fun.
