if you're moving on a coast with an army and there is a fleet adjacent to the begin place and the target you can choose between move via land or via convoy, my question: is there any way it could be better to convoy un such a situation where you can choose??
By convoy is good if you want to swap with the other unit there (who is moving to your territory), a rare case; by land is usually better if you want to take it by force, because then the fleet can support your move.
Another option would be to use it to prevent against a stab...but this would almost never happen. For instance, if you looked and thought power x might stab you, and if he did, he'd dislodge that fleet, and if he dislodged that fleet, you'd rather have your army in their starting location than in their advanced location, you might convoy since it would fail if he dislodged the fleet.
there a few ways that it could make sense to convoy an army to an adjacent land space. you might have two units that you'd like to have switch places. for instance, an army in brest and a fleet in gascony might want to switch places so that gascony could support marseilles. i also saw in a recent game where russia and turkey were in the process of calling off hostilities ... a russian army in bulgaria moved to rumania via convoy while a turkish army in rumania moved to bulgaria via land, switching places. also had an unfortunate incident where my fleet in london (i was england) moved to wales to cut support for a french attack on liverpool. france convoyed the wales army to london, making me very very sad.
If I have my history correct, in the original game you did not have to specify via land or via convoy. This introduced a adjudication issue.
What if you just wanted your army to move from A to B to cut support or whatever, but your enemy, who has a fleet in B and in the sea space adjacent to both territories, kidnaps your army by convoying them A to B thus allowing him to move his fleet from B to A?
Should the adjudication process allow your army to be convoyed against your will? It doesn't know what your will was. Maybe that other player isn't the enemy by is an ally and you wanted it to happen. Or they were an ally but you were stabbing them or vice versa.
So this website requires that you specify via land or via convoy. I imagine other places do similar things.
and it could also be that someone could stab you with his fleet if you're moving away, than you convoy with that fleet and it fails when the other tries to stab you...
Has anyone else been having problems with convoys? This is the second turn now where the site keeps giving me ¨Parameter 'toTerrID' set to invalid value '39'.¨ The value changes with the territories, but it won´t let me save any convoy moves. What do I do?!
I've joined a couple of live games and looking for more people... http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=46669 http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=46668
I told several people that the leagues registrations would start last weekend but this being webDiplomacy I found myself compelled to lie. I will start the registrations NEXT weekend after the registrations for the Masters close because TrustMe said it would hurt his brain to have multiple registrations going simultaneously.
In-game, there is a colored banner below the game info and above your country. It almost looks like the country SC banner, but it is different. In all of my games, this banner is different. Does anyone know what this is, or even what I'm talking about?
Hi all Am I missing something on system requirements? When I set up a game or join a new game I just see a plain empty board with no icons, buttons, etc etc. Can't see any tech help/support on the site, so pointers would be appreciated. Using Firefox 3.6.13. Thanks
Am assuming this is the way we help ourselves to finding new players if we're new round here. Just want to test out controls as have never played online. Not very experienced Diplomacy player, but can hopefully manage. gameID=46515
Some games have a password, and I understand why. But if there's a game where a player has left, and I want to take over his NMR'd Power, how does one get in without the password?
I'm new to webDiplomacy, so I may be mistaken, but I saw something in the game I'm playing - my 1st on this site - that struck me as odd. The game is set to No in-game messaging, but one country supported the move of another's army to capture a province. How can this happen without outside communication, which the rules states you're not supposed to do? Any clarification would help. Thank you.
