via land/convoy
if you're moving on a coast with an army and there is a fleet adjacent to the begin place and the target you can choose between move via land or via convoy, my question: is there any way it could be better to convoy un such a situation where you can choose??

Convoy problems!
Has anyone else been having problems with convoys? This is the second turn now where the site keeps giving me ¨Parameter 'toTerrID' set to invalid value '39'.¨ The value changes with the territories, but it won´t let me save any convoy moves. What do I do?!

Leagues registration delayed one week
I told several people that the leagues registrations would start last weekend but this being webDiplomacy I found myself compelled to lie. I will start the registrations NEXT weekend after the registrations for the Masters close because TrustMe said it would hurt his brain to have multiple registrations going simultaneously.

What is this?
In-game, there is a colored banner below the game info and above your country. It almost looks like the country SC banner, but it is different. In all of my games, this banner is different. Does anyone know what this is, or even what I'm talking about?

Hi all
Am I missing something on system requirements? When I set up a game or join a new game I just see a plain empty board with no icons, buttons, etc etc. Can't see any tech help/support on the site, so pointers would be appreciated. Using Firefox 3.6.13.
Thanks

Am assuming this is the way we help ourselves to finding new players if we're new round here.

No in-game messaging & Cheating
I'm new to webDiplomacy, so I may be mistaken, but I saw something in the game I'm playing - my 1st on this site - that struck me as odd. The game is set to No in-game messaging, but one country supported the move of another's army to capture a province. How can this happen without outside communication, which the rules states you're not supposed to do? Any clarification would help. Thank you.

Your strongest/weakest country
Because I'm curious, and it was starting to pollute the live games topic.

For me: strongest, France. Weakest, Italy.
In order: France, England, Austria, Germany, Turkey, Russia (I know!), Italy.

Well, I don't know why, but I always do best as Russia. I have a tendency to overextend, and as Russia you can overextend and still do very well.

I also really like Austria. You're often put in a good position mid-game because nobody really wants Turkey to do well.

My worst is probably Germany. For some reason neither France nor England are never willing to align with me...

I don't know my own statistics, but I have MOST wins as Italy, and least as Germany (none).

Russia-- maybe it's that E/Gs rarely form against me, but this is my most successful. R/I alliances and many expansion opportunities make this country the most appealing for me.
Germany-- also many expansion opportunities in the middle game. And Austria will *always* want to ally with you.
France-- hard to beat, but less distant than England, 2 quick builds. Unless E/G/I attack you on turn 1 of course, which has happened.
Italy-- not an easy country for me, but successful I/R or I/G alliances can be very powerful.
England-- hard to beat but hard to make progress. And if someone does get into one of the English seas England has only a few, painful years left.
Turkey-- none of your neighbors really like you usually! And progress is difficult, especially with your best alliance being so feared.
Austria-- I always get attacked early, especially by Italy.

Best country = the one I get
Worst 6 = the ones my opponents get, and the closest they are to me, the worst they are :)

France, Turkey, Italy, Russia, Germany, England, Austria here. And it's not that I'm particularly bad with any of them... the ball just bounces my way more with the first few listed.

Turkey > Russia > Germany > France > England > Austria > Italy.
I most enjoy playing as Russia or Germany, even though I've always played strongest as Turkey.

Italy sucks because they have only one natural neutral and they're in the center of board, getting in the way of players who want to expand so it's hard to keep from getting stabbed, at least for me.
SacredDigits (102 D)

I've found that the beauty of Italy is that you can generally rely on at least one other power to offer to divide up some random nation with you. Because they know you need it. I think that as the dead center, they usually influence the flow of play the most.

But I suck with them. I'm much better at Austria.

For some reason i find that on this website I'm really good with Turkey. In live games my best is Germany. I don't like Italy or England

germany>austria>france>turkey>england>italy>russia
well, germany has a good position because it can advance everywhere without getting problems, i always take holland, belgium and denmark in the first year and attack the who is not okay with that... if everybody is okay with that i go for russia or austria, dependent on my diplomacy and the advance of both...
with austria i always go good, most people say you're going bad with austria...
i don't choose side between russia and turkey and set them against eachother, than i attack italy if he has a DMZ with france, if thats not happening i attack germany if he's moving west, if thats not happening i attack russia...
always work for me...
in most of my games germany and russia are the only countries left...
i don't like any other country much...

Arg, I just played my first full (as in, not stepping in for someone who dropped) game as Italy and went down in flames. While I'm sure most of it was my expertise I'm glad to know it wasn't ALL me.

For how i see it, how good or bad a country is depends strongly on 2 things: the setup of the game (gunboat, public messages only, normal) and the players at the game (experience, how good they are, the patterns you know they have).
Just thing of Turkey as an example... it can be a very good place to start when in a poor communication board and not very experienced players. You have high chances of staying until the end of the game, at the very least. That pictures is quite different if you have an experienced players board with good communication.
And that is even different when you have a game with just one or two very good players; that and where they are changes everything.
It all depends on those 2 factors, game type and players.
The more important thing, when you know who the players are, is to know how they think (which are the chances they do this or that), and specially to have an idea on how they think you think. There is hardly a game using mirror neurons as much as Diplomacy.
