if you're moving on a coast with an army and there is a fleet adjacent to the begin place and the target you can choose between move via land or via convoy, my question: is there any way it could be better to convoy un such a situation where you can choose??
Has anyone else been having problems with convoys? This is the second turn now where the site keeps giving me ¨Parameter 'toTerrID' set to invalid value '39'.¨ The value changes with the territories, but it won´t let me save any convoy moves. What do I do?!
I've joined a couple of live games and looking for more people... http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=46669 http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=46668
I'm a UU. I think we're a good bunch of people and that our approach to big questions is worth looking into beyond just reading wikipedia. Have you attended any services?
No, I'm a bit esceptical about "divine" things, I was just losing my time surfing the internet, I wanted to see the data about the demographics of religions again and I found a religion I hadn't heard about much before, then I read this wikipedia article and I got a bit surprised cos it seemed to me different from other religions. Then I wanted to know what dip people would think about the subject, cos people on this web usually give me diverse perspectives.
There's a Unitarian church somewhat near me that I've been meaning to visit, but there's no fracking way I'm getting up before 10AM on a Sunday. From what I've heard I generally like it, but I'm sure there will be some new agey type stuff that I'll roll my eyes at if I ever make it to a service, like Draug said.
"Greetings to the Imprisoned Citizens of the United States! Too long has your attention been waylaid by the bright baubles of extremist thought. Too long have fundamentalist yahoos of all religions (except Buddhism -- 14-5 vote, no abstentions, fundamentalism subcommittee) made your head hurt...."
@Jamie: they don't not believe in a 'god' - they all hold their own beliefs, and each choose to be part of a community.
It is the ritual and community that binds them together... (as opposed to just paying for psychologists to help communities can support each other in times of need)
The ritual associated with death is of value for any grieving party, whether they believe in one god or many or none at all....
it is like a humanist organisation which encourages people of all faiths to join their congregation...
You're talking to an agnostic, who is also not a spiritual person, nor a member of the UU - but that doesn't mean because I don't follow a particular credo I ignore or dismiss it's existence, or the logic of those who follow it.
You're only cheating yourself if you choose to do so. Who frustrates you more - people who dismiss your views as just the ravings of some left wing loon, or people who have looked at your stated beliefs and have come to the conclusion they do not support them?
@ stratagos: When I talked about "worship" I was making reference to the wikipedia article referenced in the OP. The wikipedia article has a section on "worship and ritual" which explains that most UU services are very similar to protestant church services. The article also states that UU members do not share a creed, and that some are theist while others among them are atheists.
Based on this information, and not being someone who does much "worshipping" myself, I found it hard to grasp what it is UU members were worshipping at their services of worship.
Does that better explain my comments (which, admittedly, were previously fairly brief)?
ritual is important, and useful for binding a community together and promoting unity, trust, and a feeling of being part of the group - useful things for humans which religion has used for millennia...
'worship and ritual' - i'm willing to bet that the atheists are more interested in the ritual than in the worship... but again i haven't done any research...
i'm sure respect for the beliefs of others also comes into it. Not taking atheism to mean 'against theism' - or acting to stop such beliefs from flourishing, but merely to being one of a set of beliefs which we all respect within our society/community.
unitarian universalism has its roots in western christian tradition. what seperates it from what most people think of as christianity is a conspicuous lack of supernatural dogma. some people who have a limited view of religion consider that strange ...
ive always liked the sound of what they do but of course i could never get away with going to a UU church, for fear of having the run pulled from under by my parents.
I told several people that the leagues registrations would start last weekend but this being webDiplomacy I found myself compelled to lie. I will start the registrations NEXT weekend after the registrations for the Masters close because TrustMe said it would hurt his brain to have multiple registrations going simultaneously.
In-game, there is a colored banner below the game info and above your country. It almost looks like the country SC banner, but it is different. In all of my games, this banner is different. Does anyone know what this is, or even what I'm talking about?
Hi all Am I missing something on system requirements? When I set up a game or join a new game I just see a plain empty board with no icons, buttons, etc etc. Can't see any tech help/support on the site, so pointers would be appreciated. Using Firefox 3.6.13. Thanks
Am assuming this is the way we help ourselves to finding new players if we're new round here. Just want to test out controls as have never played online. Not very experienced Diplomacy player, but can hopefully manage. gameID=46515
Some games have a password, and I understand why. But if there's a game where a player has left, and I want to take over his NMR'd Power, how does one get in without the password?
I'm new to webDiplomacy, so I may be mistaken, but I saw something in the game I'm playing - my 1st on this site - that struck me as odd. The game is set to No in-game messaging, but one country supported the move of another's army to capture a province. How can this happen without outside communication, which the rules states you're not supposed to do? Any clarification would help. Thank you.
