Who knows anything about the human heart?
My fiance's father has had two heart attacks in the past month. He is 58 and lived in Paris for most of his life (he moved out north of Marseilles to the country 3 years ago). He is not overweight or underweight; and resists smoking. I am having to drive back and forth every weekend (about 1100 km or 700 miles) for her to visit him. What are his chances for survival? Can he get better?

Raising taxes on the rich
I was reading the forums and I am displeased by how many people think taxes should be raised on the rich. What an outrageous idea! It is the rich who create jobs that fuel the economy. In fact, last year alone my company made over 100 new jobs. If the rich have their taxes raised, even more jobs will be lost.

Buying this site
I have been looking around this site and it seems like it is a well made site. I have bought websites in the past and this seems like a worthy one. Would the current site owner contact me on how much he/she would charge for the ownership of the site.

Does cancelling a game make it impossible for a mod to investigate cheating?
If I were to cancel a game, would that make it impossible for a mod to investigate cheating in the game?

Locating a mod
Why am I so stupid I can't figure it out? I have what I think is a pretty obvious example of cheating and know enough not to accuse anyone on the forum... but even after checking the FAQ I can't figure out how to find a mod.

Inflation in GR?
Does your GR naturally rise over time? Given the statement that you supposedly improve each game you play for each experience, if you are in the top 300 now, is it natural to fall within the, say, top 150 6 months from now?

Draw vs point gain survive
Clearly, in WTA, the draw is superior. But what about in PPSC? Would you rather draw for 1/4 the stack, or take a survive for 1/3 of it? I tend to chose the second option so far, because that will maximize my points, and GR I believe.

Are there those who disagree? Do some people believe that anything less than a draw is a loss, even if it's worth more points/GR, and are these the same people that refuse to play PPSC?

Rhetorical Questions
Why does country music make me wanna punch a baby in the face? Why does Ford build a 4-cylinder Mustang? Why does most/all nun porn come out of Italy? Speaking of porn...What is up with Russia and rape/incest porn? What is up with Germany and pissing/bukkake porn? Why did I start this thread?

Please pile on with you own rhetorical questions, please. I need a good laugh.

Uganda Deployment
Now don't get me wrong, the LRA are some nasty fuckers and I doubt anyone on the forum who is familiar with their handywork sympathizes with them, but why this deployment and more importantly why now? Am I missing something?
Tolstoy (1962 D)

I think the more important question is "why is this being done so publicly?" The US government sends "advisers" and "trainers" (oftentimes a euphemism for hit squads) to third world countries without making a public statement about it all the time.

I am asking the same question and feel out of the loop since I can't get my normal news sources here, but I am copypasting what I told my friend about it on Facebook:

well one of the effects of not being at home is being mostly cut off from the news cycle, so i'd not heard of this. my best guesses about this timing and so on are the following:

could have something to do with the terrorism in kampala recently as an attempt to help uganda stabilize their domestic situation so that ugandan peacekeepers will continue to fight in somalia so that the us doesnt have to

or, it could have something to do with bringing south sudan more into the US's orbit, since there is potentially an influence game going on there

or, it could be just that the LRA is on its last legs and obama thinks its safe to get in now so that historians dont say the us never intervened. i dont know really
Thucydides (864 D(B))

either way, it smacks of a gesture to someone for some reason by obama, we may never know who, but the publicness of it only confirms that possibility. in my opinion anyway.

LRA is always the excuse used to prop up Uganda and justify UPDF's presence in the Congo, South Sudan and elsewhere (in which they just happen to make bundles through the mineral trade), where they've engaged in atrocities on a scale much larger than these small raids the LRA is blamed for. They also use a group called Battalion 105 to pose as LRA militants in committing atrocities, and the world ignores their rampages in Acholiland. Now it's an excuse to prop up the Kiir regime in South Sudan. This isn't new. Obama signed into law a wide ranging (and unprecedented) bill to go after the LRA last year. Public statements that new advisers would be sent have been made by Africom for a while now.

Putin33 (111 D)
14 Oct 11 UTC
It should come as no surprise that the same people who have links to The Family (think: Kill the Gays) pushed the bill to go after the LRA. Wonder how much Museveni pays them.
howd i know putin would support the LRA
Putin33 (111 D)
15 Oct 11 UTC
I don't support the LRA, but the LRA isn't the main problem. LRA has collaborated with the SSIM in South Sudan. The LRA is just an excuse.

i also think this may have to do with the discovery of oil in uganda earlier this year

I am puzzled as to why this deployment is so publicized, for example the u.s. has had advisors and some combat troops in the philippines since, if I remember, 2003 at least, and hardly anyone is aware of this. But I really don't understand the value of this deployment; among countries of "national security interest" to the U.S., Uganda is definitely up there as one that should be near the bottom.
Putin33 (111 D)
15 Oct 11 UTC
Uganda is the linchpin of America's entire Horn of Africa strategy. Through Uganda the US is able to have its hands in the DRC, Somalia, Sudan, CAR (where the LRA is HQ'd now) and even Zimbabwe to a certain extent. It gives them a base with which to militarize Africa through Africom.

I think the publicity has to do with the fact that there are certain very vocal pro-Uganda lobby groups that have managed to get the ear of many in the government (namely Resolve Uganda & Invisible Children), much like the Darfur lobby groups (the two are directly connected and funded by the same people). So this appeases them.

Anwar Al-Awlaki
The United States has assassinated an American citizen, never having been charged or indicted; this has sent a precedent that anyone the government deems a "threat" by a legal analysis the government won't even release can be blown up from the sky. There is no outcry or even discussion among most Americans; he is a terrorist. When people exchange liberty for security, they deserve neither.

Ulysses, James Joyce
So, I'm reading Joyce's Ulysses this week as part of my studies. It's a renowned and controversial text so I figured many of you here would have something worthwhile to offer me on it. Although I expect and welcome a fair amount of comments of ridicule - I hope some of our more scholarly contributors might be able to offer me an insight/judgement or two.

2. I argued you should read such works twice, he said bull--opinions?
