Somewhat of a tangent, LJ- when you refer to beer pong, what does that look like? Beer pong was very popular in my fraternity and the rest of the Greek system when I was in college. Visitors form other colleges all seemed to be familiar with our form of beer pong. I say "our form" because since then I've seen all of the media (Fallon, etc.) references to beer pong as, what I would call, a lame variation of what we played.
At my college, beer pong was 2v2 game where 2 cups were placed on each side- one in each corner about 4 inches from each edge. Ping Pong paddles were stripped of their padding and often decorated. The object was to win a 21 point match. In the process, ultimately, you tried to sink the ball in your opponents cup which would result in both players drink a cup of beer. Also, a running count of how many times the ball nicked a cup would be kept up and whoever lost the point (a ball could hit the cup, bounce and be returned- a "save") would have to drink that many sips. So, a skilled team would gradually get the other team trashed which would then help them towards victory. Also, balls needed to be lobbed back and forth- not returned like a regular ping pong match. Anyway, this was a blast- involved a lot of team work and a lot of skill (lots of hours of practice :)
Since then, I've see "beer pong" being played as two players taking turns lobbing a ball at an opponents cup- just doesn't seem to compare...
