Dr Who and Gender recognition
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/07/17/doctor-who-we-regret-to-inform-you-that-you-are-still-legally-a-man/
I know this is mostly meant to be fun (and a serious look at gender recognition laws in the uk) but i make me question one thing.

Is the spousal veto a necessary thing? From a purely contractual perspective. Can't you go 'well if your spouse isn't happy with your new gender, then they will have to apply for divorce.' ??? Thoughts?

Hi all,

Open invitation to play a game full press using google translator tool.

Example. France talking to Germany.

As France I type my press in english and translate it to french.I the post the translation to whom I am sending the press. In this case Germany.

To decode as Germany I cut and paste the French into google translate and convert it to German. I then convert the German to English and respond accordingly..

The password could be either Translator or translation I was a bit drunk when I typed it in sorry..

Sounds potentially hilarious, I'm in! Except that I tried both passwords and neither appeared to work...

Though I would put the burden of translation on the sender, not the receiver. Otherwise the Englishman has a boring game and there's no incentive on the others to actually put what he sends through the translator... So England translates his message into French and then sends it to France, who runs it back through the translator. Or Germany translates his into German and then into French and sends it to France, who runs that result back through the translator...

@ kench ; can you give one example of the sequence for a non english speaking communication and a example of the englnad player talking to the turkish . so we can agree on the rule setting.

I will advertise this game to some other players who I have played with if thats ok ..its a non ranked game so all good fun you do the same see if we can get this up and running..

How about: All press from and to England should be in the language of the non-English participant. Press conducted between non-English nations can use either of their two languages. Simple enough?

just asked smoky gem what about global press?
Bladerunners (1019 D)

so I'm France - and I post something on global in french - everybody translates in their own language and responds accordingly?
Smokey Gem (154 D)

yes I that is the idea..the global should go like chinese whispers in no time..

ok - so if i was france - i translate that into french - then back into english?
Mapu (362 D)

I had this idea a couple of years ago and we did it on vdip. After a few game years, it turned into somewhat of a gunboat because it was annoying to do the translation. So if you can come up with a way to pre-empt that, all the better.
Bladerunners (1019 D)
12 Jul 17 UTC
ya that's what i'm worried about -- the amount of time, effort and difficulty in working out the multiple translations ... but should still be fun
Kench (1274 D)
12 Jul 17 UTC
I think it depends on how up for this people are. If they are happy to put in a little time to do the translations, then running it twice won't be a problem. But if we think it will eventually be a turn-off, then @LeonWalras has the best suggestion - that way everyone is only running the translation through the machine once, rather than most people having to do it twice and England only having to do it once.

@SmokeyGem Examples, assuming that everyone IRL only speaks English:

England - Turkey
England writes his press in English into the translation machine and translates it into Turkish. He sends the result to Turkey. Turkey runs that result through the translation machine back into English to find out what was said.

France - Turkey (under @LeonWalras situation)
France writes their press in English into the translation machine and translates it into either French or Turkish. They sent the result to Turkey. Turkey runs that result through the translation machine back into English to find out what was said.

France - Turkey (under my suggestion)
France writes their press in English into the translation machine and translates it into French. They run the result through the machine again and translate it into Turkish. They send the result to Turkey, who runs it through the machine into English.

Non-England - Global
The user writes their press into the translation machine and translates it into their country's language, posting the result on global.

England - Global
This is tricky. Given that there's no incentive on the other nations to translate what England writes, and England shouldn't have to write the same thing in five different languages, I think England could run the press through the translation machine five times consecutively and then back into English, posting the result? But I'm not sure...

But @Bladerunners is right - Tylenol is a definite necessity :)

Or global could be for posting in english some of the more obscure results ??
and for general chat..

Using global to repost obscure results seems like it might end up revealing too much information of private conversation. I would be interested in global being used for non game conversation. Private conversations will be time consuming enough! Perhaps also, while French diplomacy to Turkey could be written in either French or Turkish, conversations with England should be only in the language of the Non-Anglo. Or was that said already?
Kench (1274 D)
12 Jul 17 UTC
Fair point! So global just for general chat. And for posting in whatever language you like :)

And yes, the point about all press to or from England being in the non-English language was suggested by Leonwalras I think... Glad we're all on the same page!

The Department of the Treasury just fined Exxon $2 million (that's right, million with an "M") for violating sanctions related to Russia's involvement in Ukraine. Why should Russia care about lifting sanctions if toothless enforcement is the alternative?

[STRATEGY] Ancient Med Variant
Hello everyone. I love the idea of the 5 player variant. But searching online I am unable to find strategy guides for EACH individual nation. It also seems Carthage has a good advantage over the others. Also Rome is just as bad as Italy in classic. Anyone have input?

Do Republicans think that Russia is good or bad?
There seems to be debate on the right about whether Russia is to be trusted or not. (The left is uniformly suspicious of Russia). I'm seeing Republican lawmakers being skeptical about Russia, but rightwing media seems fine with them.

End Russia Sanctions Now?
Tillerson has already said wrt the election meddling that it is time to move forward. Why not go all out and just get rid of sanctions altogether? At the least, couldn't Trump just turn a blind eye to violations of the sanctions (Magnitsky Act) and return the 2 spy compounds? Who's gonna stop him?
