gold standard scam?
who here thinks that the gold standard is a scam by the elites to focus their opposition on an issue that benefits them? they hold all the wealth, they can control the world gold supply and they can get even richer if there is a gold standard. it did give them the excuse for fdr to steal the gold of america to give to the elites of his day.

gameID=110229 3-draw Turkey (ava), Germany (Speaker), France (josunice). False stalemate line could have led to a solo, no?

FRANCE
Turkey played well to get powerful, but not quite enough to get to western Medi in time to achieve a victory.

1910 I chose to abandon Italy from the draw, and left Turkey to absorb him. However, with my fleet in North Sea, Germany had his fleet in Denmark and not Baltic leaving his stalemate line vulnerable. I then raced to make sure I took Tunis, becuase if Turkey got Tunis, he could have disbanded Prussia and taken Berlin for 18 before Germany could have defended (I see that right, right?). I eventually moved away from North Sea in hopes he would move Denmark to Baltic, but Germany moved it everywhere else instead! That would have been a huge loss if I didn't take Tunis. Maybe Turkey didn't see the opening?

I don't see it. How could Turkey taking Tunis affect my army in Prussia at all? Turkey couldn't have broken my stalemate line without help (it held from 1908. If he could have he would have). It could only fail if France attacked Ruhr or supported an attack on Mun. Every turn I held my breath hoping that hadn't happened.

Once we stopped arguing over the North Sea it freed up my fleet in Den so I moved it in what I hoped was the least France-threatening way I could (Ruhr/Mun was on my mind) in order to support WeM/NoA/Spa if Turkey kept pushing west.

Diabands Prussia and he can tap munich to take Berlin. Only pays to do that in the year to 18 since berlin would fall later. If he only needed one he could do it, more than one and the gambit doesn't matter. You need the baltic for a real stalemate line, I think
OMG! We both missed it for 11 turns.

I figured Turkey saw it, but was waiting to get Tunis. He would only have one run at it, so needed the 17 first... Wish he would enlighten us with his thinking.

Livonia going to Baltic would have sealed the line. Not worth the fight at this stage of the competition.

Ah I see what you mean...with the fleet in North as opposed to Barents. Could've got STP but even still Tunis was a bit of a stretch...

You could not grab Livonia, but would have disbanded Prussia for a Berlin grab before he could defend. I was pulling back to leave Italy to the wolves (i.e. you), and at first did not think about trying to grab Tunis on my way out. I think I almost screwed myself in trying to cut Italy out of the draw, but I turned around in time to get Tunis.

I was trying to screw you for trying to cut me out of the draw by throwing it to him until you were forced to support me but it became apparent that Turkey wasn't playing for the solo and rather just for the draw. That seemed to be the case in a couple of other games too and I think that's one way the points system modified peoples' gameplay.

If email notifications for games won't work, what about RSS?
It'd be nice to just subscribe to NoPantsJim.rss and get a feed for any game I'm involved with, assuming the server load from this isn't as bad as it apparently is for email.

Global message removal
I'm playing in http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=113480 (world wide gunboat!-28) and I can't figure out how to get rid of the opening global message. I click/double click on the unread message icon w/ no result. I go to the message archive and back. Anybody know of a way to remove it so I don't constantly see the reminder at the top of the screen? Thanks.

Why do zombies never use guns?
I understand they don't have weapons with them when they become undead, but surely they can pick up a gun from someone they just killed... That would make them much stronger, right?

Western Liberalism and Nature
Here is an interesting paper on the difficulty western liberalism (not in the modern American sense) has in confronting issues that necessarily entail ethics, such as bioengineering. Discuss.

Would have been a three way, but I as Turkey blundered into a solo... my mistake enticed The Czech to make a run by stabbing his ally PJMan, who in turn threw the solo to me... if only I had planned it that way.
