The mods have done such things in the past; email them and see what they say.

weather here is the exact same as it was the day before and the day before and the day before... Its a little weird living in the middle of an ocean but in my opinion the weather is definitely preferable!

If they've thought of the idea I don't feel a need to tell them again. I just wanted to make sure that we (mods and non-mods) had at least thought of it.

Cincinnati got hit hard too. Many are still without power. We got lucky, but not everyone did.

I was surprised there weren't any blackouts in Chicago this week. The temperatures have been sky high which normally equates to black or brown outs.

Although it probably seems like a big deal to the people in affected areas, I'd guess the impact on ongoing non-live games here is pretty small.

Hasn't rained any significant amount in a month where I am.

Except those whose power has already been out for more than a day with 24 hour games.

Even if I'm not affected, it's not asking much of me to wait an extra day or two, while on the other hand, I'd be really insulted if I represented a significant amount of people requested such a thing yet got completely ignored.

My power was out for almost two days. Half of the games I'm in I've gone into Civil Disorder. Most of the rest of the games I'm in have gotten so far ahead of me that there's no way I'm gonna catch up.

Such a pain... I might not be a good player but at least I want to feel like I had the chance to give it my all. Now I'm not even going to get that.

Surely in a major power outage, playing webdip is a low priority?

Related question: If you are in a live game and you get hit by something out of your control like a power outage, will your record be cleared of the resigned?

my cup of thee, I think a total pauze because of a power loss in a few states would be much more annoying for the rest of us than the inconvenience of a few players going CD or getting in an disadvantaged position.

and no, your resign would not be cleared. You could explain it in your profile to make it less problematic.

Just a thought, but can the Mods remove any "Resigned"s that happen due to this? I have a clean record as far as those are concerned and I value it (unlike some, I never quit a game, I always go down fighting). I would hate to lose that due to circumstances beyond my control.

This site has players from all over the world. I don't think it's reasonable for the mods to constantly monitor the weather and power supply situation across the globe and immediately intervene to pause or extend games whenever there is a large power outage somewhere. Get real.

(That is, I don't think it's reasonable to *expect* the mods to do so)

@Jamiet99uk - Agreed, but if somebody gets a "Resigned" in their stats due to reasons beyond their control, I think the Mods should seriously consider editing those stats.

Note that I am not advocating winding the clock back on games that have progressed while somebody's power was out, nor force-cancelling such a game. The game lasts a few hours or days. Your stats are with you forever.

It seems that everyone one this site who has been here long enough and has a significant number of games under their belt is likely to have a resign or two that was entirely beyond their control. It's only those few of us who take the ridiculously hard line of "I refuse to play anyone with a resign" that makes this a problem, and personally I wouldn't be that keen to play with those people anyway.

This really isn't something the mods need to make a priority. Unless, of course, Obama's time in office will lead to power cuts becoming a regular thing.

there is an exception to every rule. Even Zmaj has a resign on his record. Stuff happens. The majority of players have at least one, valid resign on their record

Well, I will play with people with resigns if they explain them and they aren't too excessive. But there are some here who just quit when they are losing. If you have more than 2 resigns or more than 5%, probably not happening with me.

Not true. Look at the top100 GR. Most people in there have 0 Resigned.
Even more so when you look at the all time list.

Agreed Wizard, there are not many people with CD's that I will play with unless I get an explanation from them first.

I would advise talking to the mods if you do have a resign due to the power outage, I'm assuming that's something they would deal with on a case by case basis.

I have to admit that came as a surprise, so I took a quick sample of 10 of the top 100 GR (rankings 50-59) and 70% of them had one or more resigns. Even if this doesn't reflect the top 100 as a whole it is safe to say people with resigns make up a large proportion of the group. I would go out on a limb and say the all time list contains more players who never ventured into live games, so one would expect there to be fewer resigns amongst them.

The occasional CD in live games are a fact of life, more so I think during that period a little while back when the site enjoyed frequent periods of crashing. Even in the longer varients there are those of us who have suffered the occasional computer deaths or emergencies. Frankly if someone insisted that another player explain away a 2% resign rate before deigning to play them I wouldn't be at all surprised if the other player told them to shove their game where the sun doesn't shine.

I was living in Queensland when we had the devastating floods and had no power or anywhere to live for weeks until the waters receded from the city and no one gave a shit- no big deal- GET OVER IT. a bloody blackout for a day or 2?
very selfish to expect people everywhere else to pause.
Aside from which it's EXTREMELY problematic when one person does not unpause.. a temp pause usually ends in having to email the mods to get them to unpause.
