hey, how do you check your emails, I only ever see messages when they post at the top of the column on my home screen?

5) PROFIT!

lol thanks abg, I was asking about email messages sent via this board though. I occasionally see one in the middle column on my home screen and can click on it but have never found how to go to the message center.

If you are talking about Private Messages (PM), you can access those by going to your Home Page. They are listed in the center column. If you want to send a PM, you can do so by clicking on a player's name. In their profile, right before their game history, you'll see a message box to send PMs.

email protocol is a subset of the internet protocols.

www, or world wide web is another subset of the internet.

This site uses HyperText Transfer Protocol (http), email uses a variety of things, IMAP, POP3, SMTP and HTTP (acording to google) amusingly gmail.com uses http to read your email, (or the secure version https) while probably using smtp or imap to send emails to other people (other email servers...)

it's a complex mess of acronyms and technologies; with their own development histories and overlapping adoption... but this site has private messages which are not technically email.

Franz, in case you are not aware, the mod email is separate from the website. It is listed in the site rules not to PM a mod and only use the email.

You can also go here: webdiplomacy.net/index.php?notices=on

which puts the PMs separate from the game notifications and lets you respond to the PM while staying on that page. Much nicer way to do PMs. Note that you can get to that page by clicking on the link symbol next to the Notices title on the home page.
