The Masters is back!
Looking for anyone who is interested to sign up and finish out this season

After TrustMe stepped down as TD, the tournament has languished, and many of its 49 participants are not currently active on the site, so we need subs!

J. Edgar
I saw J. Edgar yesterday and thought it was fairly fantastic. At the very least, I thought DiCaprio would be a shoe in Oscar nominee (or even winner). Reviews, on the other hand, were less positive. Anyone else seen it?

poetic public press
a couple of years ago, when public press games must be played on the forum, a few guys did a poetic version of public press (some of you old enough might recall). if anyone is interested, i would love to start a game like that.
hehe....I remember that game. I wasn't in it, nor would I want to be in this one...but the verse and rhyme from that game was awesome!
I wasn't around for the first one, but there was a more recent one that was a lot of fun. It started off on a forum thread but eventually went to public press within the game and some observers followed along with the link. I'm talking about Warrior Bards II: http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=29250#gamePanel

Lol... yes, I remember starting the first warrior bards with jbalcorn. I'd join this as long as the phase length was 36-48 hours. I really can't go less than that.

There also was a Writer's Game not too long ago. Geofram started it if memory serves me well. I was part of it, and so were another few such as Maniac, SacredDigits and PeteU. It was great fun, though maybe a touch too involving.

If I had but one suggestion to make, it would be that the contributions to the press are limited to a certain number every phase. It otherwise can become quite tedious.
LanGaidin (1509 D)

I like that suggestion. It may create some suspense as well if you've reached your limit that phase and are unsure if allies are on the same page.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
13 Nov 11 UTC
That's true! It also makes you think a bit more before you post.
Otherwise, if you take that sort of project and set it in a 48h/phase game, you'll get tons of press early on and very little once the game has progressed. There's also no way that all 7 players can be expected to write as much as the next at all times. So that sort of limit is, I believe from experience, necessary.

I'd like to join, but I think I'm already over my limit, especially with the leagues coming up. If there's a second instalment to this project, I'll try to be available.

I remember doing that... was that the "Haiku" game? If it's the same mood, I'm more than happy to sign up for another!

ah! well im thinking about stepping down the leagues this time. i really cannot commit too much time, since finals are coming up in december. so turns will be 48 hrs. i like the limiting post idea. maybe to 2 post per turn? as in one can click "post" twice per turn. should we adopt a line limit?

@cachimbo. are you sure you want to miss out? ;-]

i also think we ought to have a rule where you cannot directly speak to someone. as in you cannot write, "@russia"

this encourages smarter writing.

"to the Kaiser, who sits on his gold,
I shall not plunder, nor shall you be bold.
and to my dear Catherine, whose love charms me,
can we have a date, by the norwegian sea?"

ah scratch my second post. i read the warrior bards a bit. i think it wont be a problem. anyways. i will make the game soon, if we have enough people.

Public press can be a bore
As every player strives to score
But when they fail, as ever they do
They scream for help, from one or two

Quickly the board, is sets in place
Two sets of three, the seventh erased.
A boring stalemate then ensues
Until the draw, the game is screwed

The crux of the issue with the game we play
Is deception is crucial, no other way
But stab but once and trust is gone
and others will refuse to be your pawn

So while a themed public press sounds fun.
To thought of another does make me run
Debacles aplenty I'm already in
I'd like for once, at least, to win!

How do players come up with the games that they create. I for one enjoy using music references. For example, I am in 2 games that I have created. The first is BYOB (song by system of a down). The second is This Time We'll Blast It All to Hell (line from green days' f.o.d.)

Students: Be nice to your TAs
So, I stayed up all night grading exams and now I feel bad for some of the shit I gave my TAs when I was an undergrad. You think taking an exam is bad? Try taking the same exam 40 times without being able to make a mistake.

A Tale Told By An Idiot, Full of Sound And Fury, Signifying Nothing--"Anonymous?"
I'm seeing it with friends tommorow--wasn't, fought it for weeks, but yeah...it's illogical to say "They're forcing me to go," and yet, nevertheless, we all know the feeling of friends "forcing" others, bullshit or not...

Anyone seen it? Or wants to see it? Am I going to want to pour poison in Emmerich's ear and run him through after seeing it? ;)
