I've never tried that variant and I think I'd rather wait until the opposite kinda table got together before I joined a group such as this one.

@Cachimbo - It'll be fun. We have a mix of players from well known top players to moderatley successful but egotistical players like me to lesser known quiet folks who have the record and points to back up their participation. You'd fit in fine.

But tell me: what's the fun in playing that variant? What does it have to offer that's special? (I feel like a noob asking about the point of Gunboats, but I think that the more reasonable people here will get that I'm not judging the world map variant; I'm just curious to know).

It's a reasonably fun way to get a bunch of people together for a fun game. Map is not perfectly balanced and has some flaws but it's playable. The lack of literature concerning the map also results in a more open-ended map that gives more freedom in conducting diplomacy.

my first world game was ruined by the Finland glitch, I had a reasonable position which got totally screwed since I didnt knew about it... I would like to play again, but is there some sort of list over the different known flaws, so we would all start at the same levels?

The only one I know of is the Poland-Ukraine canal. And I only know about it because of a particularly epic troll I did in a public press world game...

whats the general consensus, does people play with it, or arrange not to in a game of this caliber? I am tempted to try the map for a second time, since this game will likely not be as CD infected as my first.

I don't think there is a consensus, probably because people don't know about it :P

We can sort that out with a vote in-game. I'd just as well be inclined to play with it -- don't have to worry about the pitfalls of an honor system, and it adds a neat extra element to the game.

What's the glitch exactly? Am I correct in assuming that it's a move one can make there that would normally not be permitted?

I would guess a fleet's move between Pol and Ukr?

Yes. One can move a fleet from Poland to Ukraine.

You seem to be implying that it only works one way. Is that so?

I actually don't know. Never seen anyone try to do it in reverse. I'm sure whichever player draws Russia could test that for us, unless someone happens to chime in with the correct answer.

Yeah, just checked old threads. Apparently F Mos used to be capable only to move to Black Sea. Don't know if this has been rectified, there was a fix ready 18 months ago but it's possible that it was never implemented

With a total resign rate of 17% spread over 3 players, i think it will be a very great game. I will join another time.

Re: Fleet Moscow - there was some sort of glitch in this one, where the fleet was extremely limited. I think it was that the fleet had to move to Ukraine before going to the Black Sea, perhaps to reflect that all of Russia's rivers which go to the Black Sea flow out through Ukraine? Though moscow is on the Volga, which goes to the Caspian Sea...

Finally, Eden I am deeply saddened that you didn't mention me with that world game move, because I purposely enabled it the entire way and set you up for it.
