My family (a.k.a. my fiancé and I) are in the top 4-5% by American standards (together of course). I make 80.000€ per year, and my fiancé makes 60.000€. My parents make a combined earning of 225.000€ per year. So I am not sure what we are talking about percentage wise with that. I don't get why everyone is so mad, that is just Capitalism. My granddad was a metalsmith/ metallurgist (are these words obsolete in English?) and a soldier. He made well bellow the poverty line. My dad, became a pilot. So, everyone is born with a chance in Capitalism to make money. Maybe instead of complaining, go out and try to make more money? I probably don't know the whole story, but then again, over here, we aren't having so much the same problems.

Assuming you're from Bayern, your systems are working better than ours in America. We are now number 32 in the world in terms of income equality, down from somewhere near the top. This is due in large part to the fact that we have no real "trades" schools like there are in Germany--American high school does *not* prepare students for any sort of skilled labor. And it's very hard to want to hire people who don't even have good basic reading, writing, and math skills for anything more than a minimum wage job, which doesn't pay the rent unless you are living free with your parents. Sad to say.
