I need a sitter...
Hey, I'm gonna be gone for about a week and a half (monday through the next week's thursday) and I need someone to sit my games for me. I have four games that need sitting, all of which are classic, 24 hours, and one gunboat. I'm doing fairly decent in them and I don't wanna screw that up, so I would like to have someone who has stats like mine or better.I don't want to ask for a pause for a week and a half, so this would really help me out.

This Time on Philosophy Weekly: Philosophy and the Diplomacy Player
It's straightfoward this time- what's your philosophy playind Diplomacy? Does it change depending what country you play as, or do you have an overriding vision? Are all nations created equal Spring 1901, or are some Masters and others Slaves? The ethics of a stab? Do you try and solo like an Ubermensch or opt for a Greater Possible Happiness with a Draw?

Australian Rules Football
ESPN2 just showed an Australian Rules game, and it was pretty good. I read the rules and stuff on wikipedia, but can any Australians here tell me a bit more about it? Also, although I probably will never play the game, I would like to know what position I should play, so, I'm wondering exactly how much stamina a Center needs. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being half-marathon runner.

Why Rome fleet variation is disabled? I mean, it basicly isn't overpowering Italy. In my opinion it even balances things a bit.

A Very Important (Life Changing) Choice
Should I spend 10 D (oops...$10 I mean) on GTA: Chinatown Wars for my iPhone? If I get it it'll mean that thanks to the awesome new IOS4 software update I'll be able to switch between GTA and Safari so I can play GTA while waiting for phase changes in my live gunboats.

Ghost, when was the cutoff for the July list?

It shows me as having 0 games completed since the last list, but I did have a game complete on 6/30 at 4pm pacific time. Hrmm, I guess that is 7/1 midnight UTC/GMT. So that's probably that.

You gain points in one game, pushing up the all time rating, and then loose them again in the next game

Ivo, if it makes you feel better, I'll lose over 10 D for a three-way draw with Ghost in our TMG Masters game. Also, I've been trying to argue that my many draws and PPSC games should be devalued in GR, but Ghost isn't buying it.

Well, if you are going to argue that, it isn't an argument to have with GR, but with the scoring system itself, WTA.

I have been up for the past 2 hours looking at the ghost records to make sure that I've set a record for the ChangeGhostRat score. It seems I have. I hate to be a braggart, but I believe I have the rights to it on this one. If I'm wrong, don't say anything. Then I would look extremely silly.

Are you now talking about all-time highest ChangeRank? I don't understand anything about the lists now, because my ranks among others in Dec 2009 don't match to my notes. But according to what I wrote down at the time, I climbed from 944 to 438. Is this the same thing you guys are talking about?

The system was adjusted to account for variants better, and remove inactive players from the list, and the improvements were made retrospectively to old ratings. (It isn't an official system so I can do this :))

Congrats Amon and MM.

I have to say I agree with MM on the GR thing. Though my suggestion was to do a 2nd GR list that exclusively rates wta games (anon and non-anon but no gunboats or public press). U could throw in a 5 or 10 game minimum before someone is rated.

Ghost would it be tough to filter those games out for a seperate list?

I would think the part of your suggestion "5 or 10 game minimum before someone is rated" would be strange, based on how the calculations are done.
