When is a game cancelled for cheating and when not?
I was in an anonymous game which was cancelled earlier this week after I reported fishy behaviour of two of the players. If those players had been banned and game continued I would probably have won the game (primarily because I would have been the only 'survivor' left.

Meta gaming in gunboat games
In this gunboat game, http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?g'ameID=17712 ,
Russia, Germany, and Italy are playing an alliance...

I would like to thing it was natural and not just cheating but the Autumn 1902 move of Russia in galicia supporting Italy' s Tyrolia to Vienna was the first real recognition of this cheating communication.

Units missing from map in pre-game
Hi, I'm new here and am a little confused.
In game #18940 it's in pre-game, and orders have been placed, but no units appear on the map.
In game#19581 it's in the same phase, but units do appear.
Any idea why units are missing from the first game? Thanks!

Question/Suggestion
I think there should be a SEARCH function button where one can search for a particular user.... eg: I am trying to find the Captains of the Australian World Cup teams and its impossible.
Unless they EVER post on this forum again, i won't spend days and days trawling thru the forum posts of yesteryear in order to find them...

Or is there another way to do this?

Isn’t It Funny . . . .
Isn’t it funny how some players\allies, after missing a turn or making wrong moves, and in doing so put both themselves as well as their counterpart at risk of takeover believe that the other player is still obligated to blindly support and\or work with them due to an agreed upon alliance? And if you don’t you are ‘stabbing’ them. Couldn’t those above actions be loosely be considered ‘a stab’ in and of themselves?

guilt
I think I've posted something similar about this in the past....
But, one thing I really dislike about diplomacy is the guilt that I carry throughout the game that will only get heavier and heavier as the game finishes.

Something Fishy
Please observe France and Russia's behavior in this game. Another note - Russia never sent any messages to anybody else in this game. And France was pretty tight lipped too...perhaps too busy entering in their several orders to notice they had messages?

And Somewhere the John, Bobby and Ted Kennedy cry, "Can't We Catch ONE Break?"
The Republicans win the MAS. election, and can now stop health care and play a stonewall to Obama's idea... and on the seat the Ted Kennedy sat for for nearly 50 years and dreamt of health care and all... it dies.

Thoughts on the political outfall (and the Kennedys REALLY ARE CURSED!) ;)

Im confused. How does it work? Allies are set and maintained? The game ends in a draw for the winning alliance? I would play.

Does Italy have to stay static for first year like the rules state in the board game or are they free to move around.then decide which side to join.
I've played this in person and it is fun.
If there is a spot open I would like to join send me a password and I'm in.

In board game a coin flip is used to determine which side Italy joins.

I say do it the same way as real life: Italy decides which team gives him the better offer.
Wolf89 (215 D)

I'll post the set of complete rules in one hour - one and half - when i'll be at home. Well, there are a lot of people.. We might start 2 games :) anyway, italy can choose the side anytime, but once decided, it can not swap. And it should not collide with anyone before choosing the side
Invictus (240 D)
20 Jan 10 UTC
I've played exactly this twice. Whichever side Italy chooses wins. It's fun, but there's really no way to keep the side Italy picks from winning, especially if it joins the Allies.

Now, if the alliances were broken after the other side was destroyed, that would be interesting. An Anglo-French war in 1919?

I'll note your suggestion down invictus :)

Sounds good... Surely Italy would keep switching sides when it suites him? I'd enjoy being Italy!
Doesn't Russia just lose very quickly?

I'll play if all alliances dissolve after a certain time (either when the enemy is defeat is after a set number of years)

1905 Japan beats Imperial Russia in the far east, curbing the Russian empires expansion efforts and making Japans industrialisation noticable to the world.

This is the first time a European nation has lost a war to a non-european nation in almost three hundred years (counting the US as European/Western) This fact did not go unnoticed, however Russia was considered backward by European standards.

You can't simulate this in dip, but try hearts of Iron 3, i assume it supports multiplayer.

"This is the first time a European nation has lost a war to a non-european nation in almost three hundred years."
Actually before that war Italy was defeated by Ethiopia 1895-1896 this is very important because it confirms Italy's military weakness prior to WWI and it lead to the second I-E war in 1935-1946.

I would assume that it'd be England, France and Russia?
v
AH, Germany and Turkey?

with Italy neutral/able to choose sides?
I have played like this on another site, and sadly, Russia is always eliminated by AH, G and T.

Has anyone got another idea?
maybe....

EFR v AGI?

T is neutral/able to choose a side?
