Baseball's the sport you can share,
With most anybody, don't matter where,
'Cause basebal's the sport you can share,
With Vin Scully live and on the air.
"Good ev'ning, wherever you may be,"
(That's how Vin says hello to me,)
"The Dodgers come home, dropping two of four,"
(This I know, I wrote down each score.)
"Tonight the Dodgers'll face the Mets,"
Vin continues, as the sun slowly sets,
"New York, too, lost the last two of four,"
(Again, I know this, I wrote down each score.)
"On the hill tonight for Big Blue
Is Chan Ho Park, record five and two,
His delivery odd, swings fro and to,
But hits the corner, sharp and true.
The linup, now, for the visiting Mets,
Filled with youngsters and a few good vets,
Agbayani, then Alfonzo, rarely does he frown,
And then Mike Piazza (look out, Cooperstown.)
Zeile to bat cleanup, Ventura bats next,
Trammell, slumping and feeling vexed,
Payton, then Abbott, who's back and now sound,
The lefty Leiter will be on the mound.
So as we get set for another great game,
Grab a hot dog of Farmer John's fame,
Remember this Sunday, June the third,
Is Cap Day, folks, so spread the word."
All is told with such poise and grace,
So while I've never met Vin face to face,
I HAVE met him, still do, year after year,
As he calls games for the club he holds so dear.
Well, now it's over, the Dodgers have won,
T'was a tight pitcher's duel at 2-1,
Vin signs off, and all is grand,
(Not for me, however- I'm a Mets fan.)
