No more game notices?
I noticed that the 'home' page, the center column (notices) only shows messages sent back and forth, and no longer game notices. I was just getting used to those. Will those come back (maybe another column)?

bug?
Austria placed two moves in Autumn of 1904 that were fails that don't appear to have been so. "Vienna" and "Budapest" support orders. Curious about this. Thanks!

why such long game turns?
prior to the changeover it was very easy to find games with 12 or 18 hour turns, now they rarely seem to be less than 36 hour games and often longer. Any thoughts on why this is?

Yes I know I can start my own games, and will probably start doing so; I am interested in the thought of others why a longer game is better.

My game progressed...but....another empire had not finalized his moves and the game put them in anyway. His moves should not have happened. Could this be corrected?

Finalization doesn't work like that nomoney. You can be not finalized but still have your orders processed, finalizing just means you're ready to move on; if everyone finalizes the game goes forward immidiately.
Have a read through the FAQ to learn about the common misunderstandings the easy way

That sucks. I did not know that part. Could have cost me big time. That really does not make much sense to me. But whatever.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Sep 09 UTC
It relates back to the Judges, in a way, where you could tell the judge to progress at any time. In essence, you orders were final and you stood by them.. Or you could make changes up until the last second. Finalize is just the equivalent to the old "Set Wait On/Off" order.

I have to wonder how you have completed 22 games and this has never come up before...
nomoney (532 D)
30 Sep 09 UTC
Me too. I wonder also. I had opened myself up at the last minute as i thought Russia's orders would not progress. The worst part is waiting for 36 hours for someone to make a move, then thinking they didnt make their move, then find out their move has been made..just sitting around waiting.

I had my moves finalized for 12 hours leading up to the time they were due, i just changed them the last 10 minutes as i seen he had not come on and finalized the orders.

If the other guy cannot finalize and hold the game hostage, I say let his moves be null and void. It is crap to wait for one person for a day and a half
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Sep 09 UTC
But you agreed to 36 hour turns. Don't play a 36 hour game if you don't want to wait 36 hours for your move. It's the way it has been since I've been here (a year this December). From the FAQ:

What does finalizing orders actually do?

When you finalize your orders you are saying 'I am ready for the game to move on'. If every player with orders to enter finalizes the game will move onto the next phase, but if any players don't finalize the game will not progress until the process-time comes.
Finalizing is considered good etiquette, because it helps the game move on faster. This is especially true in Retreats and Unit-placement phases where there often aren't many players who need to enter orders, and there isn't much talking to be done.

However if you do not finalize your orders it will not affect them; the orders you have entered will be processed whether you have finalized or not, finalizing only makes the game move faster.

The last paragraph says it all and you should really be aware of this instead of bitching about it.
nomoney (532 D)

Now I am just talking, not complaining. Saying what should be, even if it isn't. I usually will not play a game with more than 24 hour wait time as i hate waiting. When you have 3 players left, you think you can get it done quickly, but i guess not. When I have lost and I know it, I move as fast as I can for the other players benefit. I guess I just hope others would be as kind to me. Now that I know how this works, I will do it in all my games and make everyone wait...lol. too bad for them i say!

Draugnar, do you realize that you're actually making a lot of sense in this thread? :-)
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Sep 09 UTC
GJDip, I'm trying to be much more rational from now on. I'm tired of people hating me and going after me in games for what I say here. :-)

NoMoney - That's fine. As long as you realize your venting isn't going to change it, vent away.
nomoney (532 D)

I know it will not change, even if I am right!! lol
Babak (26982 D(B))

gjdip +1. thx Darugnar

nomeny - well, dont worry about it, because you are not right... in fact, you could not be more wrong.

I would say, finalizing in the earlier parts of the game is actually a bad idea, because it tells the other players you are not open to negotiations, that you've made up your mind. many vets in this community will tell you that if they see players who finalize early in the first few years of the gtame, they will usually target that player, because those players are usually the least talkative.

in the late-game, its true... when its more about tactics than diplomacy... but even in the late late game, when the board is pretty obvious, there is plenty of time to try to find new allies to stop a solo, to try to negotiate yourself into a draw etc...

anyways, you should know that you are wrong.
nomoney (532 D)
30 Sep 09 UTC
This was with three players left, not a whole board. I never finalize early in the game just for that reason...i know it looks like you are not open to talks. I am talking in the late game when it is obvious no one is your ally.

I am not a newb, i do understand the basics. I just do not have patience when it is obvious and we can get the game finished fast.

Example: when you are the last to retreat and the board shifts to unit placement. You retreat, but do not place your units for 12-12 hours. WHY, just place them and be done.
Babak (26982 D(B))
30 Sep 09 UTC
in that case nomoney, I take my words back. in those instances you are correct, its a B*tch to wait for someone to finalize or run out the clock when all they have is an obvious retreat or disband... unless of course, they have a shot at diploming their way out of their perdicament.
