I meant to set the turn length to 60 hours but it has turned out that the turn is 10 hours which is way too quick. Any chance you might be able to cancel this game so I can create another game with a slower turn phase. Please?

Jungle or Tundra?
Would you rather live in a cold and snowy tundra or a warm jungle filled with bugs?
flashman (2274 D(G))

You could live on the tundra with a nice warm laptop running Windows and you'll have the best of both worlds...
Orange Monkey (100 D)

I would rather live in a tundra because I consider bugs to be worse than being cold.

As a Canadian, I have to say jungle. Signalseven makes my favourite argument for winter over summer, but this is not the same thing.

You're FAR more likely to die in a tundra than in a Jungle. You can always find food in a jungle, but in a tundra, water will be a huge issue. That's why they put Survivor in tropical islands. You have to be semi-retarded not to be able to find fresh water and edible food. If they put 'em in a desert or a tundra, everyone would just die because they're incompetent city-dwellers. =D
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
17 May 09 UTC
I would rather Live in a tundra. Nothing to do with the dying part.
Chrispminis (916 D)
17 May 09 UTC
Well, if we're in no danger of dying... I still pick jungle. I think the tundra would be pretty lonely, whereas lots of people live in the tropics. It's important to me to have people around me. =)

House, mosquito netting, air conditioning. =)

"Tundra.
You can always put on more layers of clothing.
You can only get so naked when it's to hot."

That argument is bull. You can put on as much as you want but youll never be adequately warm, and your movements and activities are also restricted by the clothes you wear as well as the cold itself. Transportation is limited as well with ice and snow everywhere. Society, life, and happiness are demented, impaired, closed, or shut down.

When its hot yeah you can get naked, and that's almost always enough. Besides that a drink of water will always do the trick and that's available in a moist jungle. Think of it this way: Your body temperature is 98 F... clearly we were meant to live in 98 degree environments. Humans were never meant to invade the windswept wastelands known as "Russia," "Europe," and "North America."
iMurk789 (100 D)

Thucydides, i have to disagree. winter is beautiful and awesome in michigan. and believe me, summer never feels so nice after a long, cold winter. have you ever been outside in december when its snowing heavily? its a great experience. and as i always like to say, (its more of a joke than an actual argument) snow and cold keeps the pansies out.
iMurk789 (100 D)
19 May 09 UTC
and when its snowing heavily at NIGHT...then its really sweet
meteorman15 (298 D)

tundra is definitly a better place to live in because its easier to avoid the polar bear that you can see from a mile away than it is to avoid the snakes and other animals trying to get you in the jungle. plus you can get food from fishing in the tundra wheras you can eat plants, half of which are poisonous probably in the jungle
Chrispminis (916 D)
19 May 09 UTC
"Your body temperature is 98 F... clearly we were meant to live in 98 degree environments."

Not true. This is only the case because of the set of enzymes and proteins handed to us by our ancestors (predating humanity) only function, or function better, within a small range of that temperature. We have a slew of homeostatic feedback functions that allow us to live in a wider range of temperatures while maintaining the same internal temperature. We're warm-blooded.

iMurk, an American friend of mine once said of Canada, if it weren't so cold up here, everyone would live here because it's so awesome. But then, it'd be crowded and full of idiots like everywhere else and would cease to be awesome. =)
Thucydides (864 D(B))
19 May 09 UTC
shivering < sweating

there is a cure for sweating, and the cure is readily available
shivering is just miserable. also, if you work hard in the cold, then you get to sweat AND shiver... which is not the case in a jungle.

Also... no one lives in tundras whereas the tropics sustain a huge amount of life. I've always been one for cities crowds and traffic, noise and activity, so I'll take the jungle.
spyman (424 D(G))
19 May 09 UTC
A lot more people live or holiday in the tropics than the tundra. I think there might be a good reason for this. You won't find too many resorts in the Tundra.
I would like to visit the Tundra. I would like to visit Antarctica too, but I wouldn't want to live there.

I live in centeral Canada and it could be said that we have tundra for about 5 months in the winter and bugs for 5 months in the summer. But I wouldn't trade it for anywhere else. It's a tough climate but you get used to it. So buy a pair of sorels and some muskoil and enjoy the outdoors.
DipperDon (6457 D)

Tundra or Jungle? Really depends on whether you recruiting line was Brush or Swamp, doesn't it? A colossus is at home in the tundra, and a serpent in the jungle. It's rather basic Titan knowlege, isn't it?
DipperDon (6457 D)
19 May 09 UTC
hmm.... I meant brush or marsh, of course. Does no one else play the board game Titan? I really expected someone else to make allusion to it before now.
iMurk789 (100 D)
19 May 09 UTC
@chrispminis- yes, canada is an awesome place, a lot of people exaggerate and call it a utopia. being right near it, michigan isnt too different. and i know michigan is no tundra, but im just using it to oppose the whole 'winter/cold is hell' argument
Orange Monkey (100 D)
19 May 09 UTC
@DipperDon- You could also start with the plains. The centaur can muster a warbear which can muster giants and colossus in the tundra. So, it is more likely that your army would have creatures from the marsh or plain than the brush and would therefore be more at home in the tundra.
Chrispminis (916 D)
19 May 09 UTC
Otto, I lived in Winnipeg for two years. Terrible place. =)

The difference in temperature between summer and winter was more than 80 degrees Celsius. That, combined with the mosquitoes, made going outside for any prolonged period of time a rarity. I could not choose to live there. Also I found that people weren't as laid back and had a strange sense of humour (to me) that altogether revolved too much around television shows and commercials. I prefer other parts of Canada. =)

iMurk, it's clearly no utopia. But I would say it's closer to a utopia than Michigan. =P
Orange Monkey (100 D)
19 May 09 UTC
I say that no place can be even close to a utopia if it prospers because of other people's misery.
iMurk789 (100 D)
19 May 09 UTC
the reason why us in michigan refer to canada as a utopia is because theres so much less crime and ridiculous murder like there is in the US. we never ACTUALLY believed its a utopia. and michigan is a fantastic place, you get all different types of weather during the year, you get nice hot summers, cold winters, lots of snow, and 4 great lakes. i honestly dont find the the temperature or the mosquitoes that big of a deal at all. besides, some things you cant enjoy with out temperatures like that. with temperatures below freezing, you get to enjoy warm baths, hot drinks, fireplaces, and skiiing. with hot, humid michigan summers, going swimming, going to the beach, cold drinks and air conditioning seem all the better.
iMurk789 (100 D)
19 May 09 UTC
i agree with Otto, for the most part.
Otto von Boris (875 D)
20 May 09 UTC
Chrispminis, a differance of more then 80 degrees Celsius is a bit of an exaggeration. I would say about 60 (-30 to +30 at best). As for the TV thing, I know people in Florida who are addicted to watching CSI repests. I also like other parts of Canada like Vancouver (but so does everyone else), and Montréal is a close second.

I have clicked on my profile name and found out something interesting.
I have won one game (thank you CDers). I have lost one. I have 'survived' two.
Yet on both of my survival games, I have 0 SCs as I was totally wiped out by the power to get to 18 and take the Win. Now without wanting to downgrade my stats, this hardly ranks in my mind as 'survival'.
Are there any other anomalies in the stats like this?
