Missing Player
In one of my games, we are missing a player, and the game is paused. I was hoping one of the Gamemasters could unpause it, or at least put the missing player in Social Disorder so we can replace him. Thanks in advance : )

As Promised- Kirk V. Picard
You know the combatants, and the case for each.
I vote Picard by a hair (I'll say why later)

My case is that Kirk has put out the very worst recordings in the history of music.

They are so lame, that they're actually cool.

Mr. Tambourine Man and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds are particularly awesome.
Picard has no hair

Picard +1

So far...

Picard - 4
Kirk - 2

patrick stewart/ picard, he was in Dune, enough said - 1(oh and a great "extras" epidsode)
(all Shatner could do was Boston legal, another bloody show about arrogant lawyers being all quirky...jeez thought that premise died out with LA law)

as for their persona's in the Star Trek universe im pretty sure most would agree that Picard was the better leader and statesman, kirk would be a good action doll figure like Riker, all brawn and a kind of rough intelligence and a chunk of charisma with the ladies but no real intellectual or moral heft.

Picard - 5
Kirk - 2

Don't forget T J Hooker, that was pretty naff as well.

Picard for me:

Picard 6
Kirk 2

Mapleleaf, please check out "Has Been". KIRK!
Yeah but in Boston Legal* he's Denny Crane now too. The only lawyer who has won every case he ever had. Just Google for him and see all the topics. Here's a good place to start.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denny_Crane

*Boston Legal: an excellent, funny, brilliant, unmissable T.V. show. Almost as good as The West Wing.

Patrick Stewart is Royal Shakespearean Acting Troupe member with credits ranging from London to Broadway. He has featured in popular movies and children's TV shows (the engine master in the Thomas the Tank Engine show), and, in my humble opinion, would have made a dynamite Gandalf in LOTR. William Shatner just can't compete with character creation drawn from raw acting talent and hard work.

Picard/Kirk 10-4

yes, it helps too do a little thought exercise, imagine William shatner playing the professor in the X-men series, how would that make the movies? hmmm a definite turn to a lighter campier series. i hear they are remaking Dune, stewart would make a great Duke Leto.
TheClark (831 D)

Patrick Stewart played Gurney Halleck in the David lynch making of Dune, by the way.

Stewart's has almost exclusively played the authority figure role. He is excellent at what he does, but he is more than a bit type cast and no roles come to mind where he plays against his natural type. He has a supurb command presence with voice and athletic physique, so I guess he is doomed to play our vision of a proper king or leader of men.

Shatner, on the other hand, hasn't quite got that voice or physique. His attempt at command presence comes off as more of a street swagger. Exactly what Rodenberry probably wanted at the time. Pitiful, puny, glorious humanity against the unknown. Kirk is an American of Scottish or Scots-Irish descent with just a bit to prove to himself, the federation, and the klingons. He's got to hold things together with force of will when everything else fails. And, while athletic, his presence is not so authoritative. Which means the audiance may have some doubt about the outcome. Kirk's galaxy isn't quite as tame as Picard's, either(the borg are the exception). Therefore, Kirk is less diplomatic and faster to draw his weapon because of that wildness. It is the cold war period in the real world afterall! Kirk is a bit over the top - that fit during the sixties. Kirk values desiciveness and isn't going to loose sleep over might have beens. He is not George Bush, however, in that he seeks out councel from all quarters and allows vigorous and open debate.

Picard comes along during perestroika with the Soviets and the Klingons - The federation is in a much more secure galaxy - starship captains are diplomats and restaint is required.

Stewart really does project the presence of a special individual that you will look to for an almost parental protection and guidance. Seamingly 10 feet tall and bullet proof with the voice of God he has a much more mature resolve and reserve demeanor.

Kirk is around thirty-five when he is captain of the Enterprise. Picard is probably around fifty. A good bit of the difference in thier styles of leadership could be attributed to thier age differences and experience. Kirk wasn't loosing sleep over the might have beens at thirty-fifty. Picard is Kirk years later when his minds starts to revisit the might haves beens of an earlier time. He will loose some sleep over the might have beens, but he has a ship to run in the end.
He has already proven himself and has the wisdom to know that as he solves todays problems many consequences will play out into new problems in the future.

Picard. ...though, as pointed out, they were different ages, filling different roles in different time periods ('60s vs. '80s and 23rd century vs. 24th century).

Patrick Stewart (Picard) was 47 when TNG started, so not quite 50. By way of comparison, Pierce Brosnan was 49 when he played bond in Die Another Day, but nobody thought he was old.

TheClark (831 D)

Its not "old" it's experienced. Kirk was 34 when the original Star Trek aired in its first season. Shatner was 38. Stewart is 47 and playing somewhat to that age. Brosnan is playing a charactor much onger the his age. The point is that the Captains are at different points in life and are interacting with their worlds as their age/experience lead them. Picard has been there done that. A "has been" - "that is" - "could be again". Rodenberry created both these characters and in each case they represent his approximate age. I submit they are the same archetype at different stages of life. Kirk vs Picard. Kirk's crew is made of sterner stuff. Kirk's pose wins.

Spelling/Typo corrections: "younger than" instead of "onger the" and "posse" not "pose".

What happens to a game that does not start with enough players?
If there's only 5 or 6 players, I know Italy and some other country start as CD.

But what happens if there's like...only two players? Does the game wait for more, or does it become a east vs. west game?

So, how are points divvied up again?
Just won a game, http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=8371 , where the pot was 50 points. For winning with 18 SCs, I was awarded 18 points.

I thought you were supposed to get most of the points in the pot if you won.
