gameID=120624 was canceled due to site violations
This live gunboat game was canceled since two people who knew each other played in the same game and they communicated outside of the site, which gave them an unfair advantage. They did not know the rules and now they have been warned. Any further infraction on their part will result in a ban.
Please do not try to determine who they were as this was swiftly dealt with.
Thank you for understanding.

Defiance is an awesome game too!
So after the attack last night on my laptop, I decided to scrub it and start from scratch (new Sony Vaios have their OS on some firmware) so I completely formatted it and reinstalled using the VAIO key. I thought I'd give Defiance another tyr (an earlier attempt never ran) so I installed it and it ran great! Awesome game play and very immersive graphics. Not a fan of the odd keyboard and mouse, but I will probably remap those to match WoW/STO/other MMOs.

SRGB GAME
To rekindle the lusthog squad, looking for 6 players who are willing to commit NOT voting draw until a stalemate line is reached and formed (read: no movements).
Parameters otherwise are negotiable (36 hours is preferred). Looking for players with a proven track record in GB games. Post if you require clarification regarding the rule.

What if the stalemate requires tapping a unit to cut support? That is still a stalemate.

If it's the same rules as the Lusthog Squad games, then it would be a stalemate only if that unit couldn't be diplaced, and the other side had no other way of breaking the stalemate.
Draugnar (0 DX)
09 Jun 13 UTC
So you consider a game that has coin tosses where neither side can break the line without pure luck to be playable. I'll pass. Coin toss guesses can go on for years and years until one side or the other gets lucky.
trip (696 D(B))

What I explained, Draug. If the only way for one side to break a stalemate is with a unit who's support is being cut, how is that a coin toss?

I guess before the game starts is might be a good idea to set a limit on how many turns a coin toss situation can go on before drawing. Thanks for bringing that up, Draugnar.

Draugnar I have no idea what you are trying to ask. Games are either stalemated or they are not. The idea is that the game must conclude as a draw via a stalemate before players press draw, a formality to end the game.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jun 13 UTC
3 on 3 where one of the defending three can support hold either of the other two and where 2 pf the attacking 3 can each only hit one of the 2 front line defending three such that it can never be more than two on one and if the defender guesses correctly could go on stalemated for years on end. That ceases to be a fun game and is one the mods will draw. So I consider it a stalemate. Do you?
The mods will draw a game that can be won via correct tactics? I would hope not.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jun 13 UTC
They will and have if it is a coin toss and has been going on for some time.
Can you provide an example? This seems farfetched to me and I assume we are likely not on the same page.

If all players agree beforehand to not draw until a true stalemate is reached, I doubt the mods will interfere.
trip (696 D(B))
10 Jun 13 UTC
Essentially, the situation Draugnar is talking about is not a stalemate, because it can be broken. It's a 50/50, but if played properly the odds will eventually favor one side over the other. Tbh, the chance of it coming into play are so infinitesimal that it shouldn't really even be a concern.
I don't believe this situation truly exists. I believe there are two distinct options that are being lumped together:
1) An incomplete stalemate line that has the ability to be reinforced.
2) An incomplete stalemate where there are not enough units for it to be reinforced.

I believe the first option result in a series of guesses until the stalemate is either achieved or broken. I believe the second option favours the attacker and they will eventually win.

To respond to abgemacht and Draugnar, if the mods will draw a game where a player has an opportunity to win that is very concerning to me. Perhaps jmo or zultar can chime in.

In any event:

2. Lando
3. 2WL (pending)

zultar (4180 DMod(P))

I believe that abge's statement was specific to this situation. He's saying that for this game where the players have agreed to this particular condition of reaching true stalemate, then the mods will not interfere. This does not imply that the mods would have interfered for other games where the players didn't agree to this condition. We DO NOT INTERVENE unless we have to, and I personally try to err on the side of giving the players the benefit of the doubt.

As far as a pseudo-stalemate is concerned -a situation where one player does have the chance to win, the mods will of course give the player plenty of chances to try (given that the player can show/explain to us how he can win). The mods will not just come in and draw a game willy nilly. As of this point, I am unaware of a game where the mods did force draw a game where it is not a true stalemate. I would have to review the circumstances of that game to verify whether the correct action was taken.

@Lando - I'm in a bunch of gunboats right now. Can you please name it something that clues me in that there are no draws prior to an actual stalemate? No Draw, or something like that. MM named his gunboats that he did not want us to finalize "MM No Finalize." Thanks.

Agreed with Zultar's statement. If the rules of a special game say no draws then we will not interfere even in the case of a stalemate. Someone would have to give or the game would continue forever.

In the case of someone tactically being able to win, they would be given every chance to do so.

I'm too lazy to pencil it out but it'll be funny if it's possible to oscillate between 2 or more different "stalemate" states indefinitely, so you're just moving a piece back and forth forever. Please bet all your points.

Has anyone encountered this? Using the "draw" voting button early on in a Modern Diplomacy II game to indicate your interest in forming a coalition to dominate the board? Seems dodgy to me. Not in the spirit of the rules. Thoughts, anyone?
