It's funny.. I was visiting Florida a week before Hurricane Wilma. I was in Alabama a week before Katrina. Now my girlfriend from New Orleans is here during Hurricane Isaac. I am like a magnet or something.

In all seriousness, I'm not going back there when she goes back from evacuation, but I hope that she doesn't see as much damage as she did seven years ago. I'm thankful that she is here and out of harm's way and I hope the same can be said for the rest of the affected area.

Isaac was shit-tier. 0/10 wouldn't even miss class for it again. That is all.

Dub, she doesn't live in urban Nola on the coast, but none of us have a clue whether or not the floods got where she was or not. I doubt they did, but I really don't know.

In other news, some computer models predict than I'm going to get 7 inches here - in central Indiana, a bit far from the coast - and others say I'll get 0.2 inches. I don't really know...

I meant my comment in reference to everyone being out of harm's way. Most of my friends were planning massive cook outs when school was cancelled for two days. The reports (and pics, and twitter posts) all seemed rather boring of a storm this time. Admittedly, it's storms like this that dull the general awareness of how bad they can be, but it should also be granted that most aren't that bad. I haven't weathered one that I didn't feel safe enough running to Walmart in the middle of because we needed more margarita mix (I didn't live on the coast during Katrina). I'm not saying they're not potentially dangerous, just that I never expect that a coastie will get out of Dodge at every name-worthy storm. I'm glad, for your sake, that your girlfriend is a wiser member of the community. I genuinely meant no offense by my comment

Rancher, I've seen both reported, and upon my own searches I've seen a bit of everything.

And Dub, she and I are both 16, and she evacuated during Katrina too and was in a neighborhood that got hit hard, not by floodwaters but by trees. Her house stood, and it is - I think - still standing, but there's no guarantees and that's stressful.

Jason Mraz (decent singer, her favorite for whatever reason) is playing at the Gardens lawn in a few weeks and I was going to ask her to stay an extra week and we'd get her home, but that option is out the window now, and all I hope is that everything is okay down there.

You silly people living down there near the storms, just move north to Wisconsin. We only get tornados and only one or two a year, and the best part is when there is a tornado you get to go hide in the basement. Which if you didnt know, all basements in Wisconsin are filled with Cheese, Beer and Snow :)

Speaking of hurricanes and Wisconsin... Nicholls State was slated to play in the opener here in Corvallis Oregon against my home team Oregon State. But due to the hurricane they aren't making it out, so while everyone else gets to watch their teams take the field, I gotta wait a week. So what's that have to do with Wisconsin? Well, instead of playing Nicholls State in our first game, now Wisconsin is our first game instead of our second. Just a wee bit tougher of an opener.

Everything seems to be alright - significant flooding down by the coast, unsurprisingly, but very little loss of life reported (Examiner has a total of two deaths tied to Isaac; one of them was a guy falling 18 feet out of a tree he'd climbed, not exactly what comes to mind when one thinks of hurricane-related deaths). Here's hoping it stays that way.
