Are these the same courts that sentenced Mubarak to life imprisonment, thus sending a clear message to all Middle East dictators that if they value their freedom they must cling on to power at all costs?

I feel sorry for them, it must be really frustrating.

I am still somewhat optimistic that the people will not allow it to veer away from something looking like democracy, such is their fervor. But the longer we go, the riskier that becomes.

Do you realize that the attempt to keep Ahmed Shafik from being in the run-off was largely the work of the Muslim Brotherhood, obiwanobiwan? It was a power play to secure the presidency for them, a presidency without a constitution and therefor one of potentially enormous power. Since the liberals and socialists in Egypt are so hopelessly divided their candidates, despite being the large majority, let these two clowns get first and second place. The military, fearing a totally Muslim Brotherhood government, made sure their guy would be in the runoff and dissolved parliament so the Brotherhood MPs couldn't legitimately challenge the military-appointed commission writing the constitution. While extremely damaging to democracy in Egypt, the military's actions are saving the country from a Muslim Brotherhood written constitution which would strangle secularism in the country forever.

Two clowns to choose from? It looks like American values are finally taking hold! Hoorah!
