Caricatures - Public Press game
This was one that we did a while back and I thought it was fun. A public press game where everyone assumes a stereotypical accent.

ie Austria-Hungary types like John Cleese in the phrase book skit "EYE vill nut boiy dis record, it is skretched".

Speak if you guys want. I know my first comment is: I have no idea how the hell I made this happen by pissing off all 3 of my initial enemies. This is a perfect example of how you CAN make something happen without allies...lol

Do You Hear the People Sing...Egypt Sung For *This?*
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-egypt-court-elections-20120615,0,511695.story
LA Times, BBC News, and other outlets reporting Egypt's parliament has been dissolved by their high court while keeping a Mubarak supporter on the ballot for the Presidential Election. Thoughts?

Crazy Tom Cruise on Youtube
Have most people seen this set of videos with Tom Cruise talking about Scientology? It makes me feel slightly sorry for him...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWgUPHVEcl0&feature=relmfu
He believes in a "religion" involving Space Aliens that was invented by a third rate Science Fiction writer? Really? Poor sod. I feel sorry for him too.

P.S. Did they have permission to use those extracts from the Mission Impossible theme on that video?
The fun thing about Scientology is watching people from more widely accepted religions furrow their brows and pityingly shake their heads while lamenting how silly and unbelievable it all is.

Like me. Scientology makes Mormonism look like the Theory of Evolution.
Does it? Or are they both equally crazy?

@twa: I don't subscribe to an organised religion.

But I disagree that more widely-accepted religions are "equally crazy" to Scientology.

Why should I care about what Tom Cruise believes?

"But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782
Sarg: I understand that Scientology seems more "out there" in many ways... But my question is how much of that is simply a reflection of our cultural conditioning? We've grown up in a world where The Big Three religions dominate our daily lives to the point that even if we disagree with them they still FEEL more organic, and by extension, logical. When it comes down to it, though, I still believe they're equally crazy.
The only thing that separates "cult" from "religion" is popular acceptance.

thatwasawkward when... I decided to point out that Scientology was created by L. Ron Hubbard who admitted he created the religion to make money and that it was all bogus. So the difference between the big three and this one is that the people behind the big three never came out and said "Bwahahahah! You stupid fucks lined my pockets for something I completely made up!" and L. Ron Hubbard did (maybe not in thos eexact words) with Scientology.

^ The thing about belief systems is that no belief system can claim better credibility than another, even if one of its founders is out on the street denouncing it.

Belief systems are just that.
They have faith.

Tolstoy, no one is saying that Tom Cruise shouldn't be allowed to believe in Scientology. He can believe whatever he wants, but we get to mock him for it.

This of course ignores the shady shit the Church of Scientology has done over the years.

Ive tried this in a recent gunboat game, and it actually ended up working out fairly well. Is pretending to CD a valid strategy?

Apples and oranges
I've seen a number of discussions on the forums recently comparing two positions or ideas that are too different to reach a valid conclusion about which is better. Since invalid comparisons are in vogue right now, I thought we might discuss the classic: apples vs oranges. Go!

For debate: When is a gunboat not really a gunboat?
Hey gang: I accidentally clicked onto a gunboat game and now have no real way of backing out. Others are not really being acquiescent about a Cancel, so it looks like I'm (more or less) stuck. So instead, I'm setting up this thread as a potential discussion spot for gameID=91706. If players are talking here, is it still gunboat?

I was bored and looking through your player information pages while going through the Top 100, and I noticed that most of you have your P/W/D/S/D stats for each country posted. Is there a reason for that?
