Xbox Live Arcade Diplomacy Game
Just a idea i thought of while on my xbox. Anyone else think it is a good idea? If it had 7 player matches and functionality like this website (with 1 day or more turn systems + plus live games) I think I would pay at least 10 bucks to purchase it as long as it was simple but still got the diplomacy feel.

I wrote a song for you Ava!
Inspired by Sarg's comments in this thread:
http://webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?viewthread=851524
I wrote this song for Ava! I used my friend's twelve string for instrumentation.

If you were to run for President, what would your theme song be?
You know, like Hillary was supposed to have New york State of Mind play when she campaigned in NYC... What would play and would it vary depending on where you were stumping?

Guitar
Any guitar players out there?

Like most everyone I guess, I learned on a six string, but I recently played my friend's twelve string, and I think I'm in love with it.

I play. Twelve strings are really nice.

I've been playing the guitar since I was 10 :) As a teen, I was really into metal, so I mostly played electric guitar and focused on lead. Nowadays I love a good acoustic guitar and I write my own stuff, with many different influences. But I'm still no pro when it comes to guitar. I'm just steady. I haven't practiced enough to become really good.

Twelve strings are awesome, but I'm too content with my current guitars to go spending the money on one. I haven't been playing as much lately and I kind of miss it

eh, wait a bit on the 12 string. They're nice, but not as 'always useful'. I used to work in a music store selling guitars and amps and such, so I know the gear pretty well. I have some axes: 2 strats, a tele, a les paul, a 335 knock off, and a martin acoustic, most of which have been modified electronically or at least blinged-out in some way. most of that runs through a line6 pod hd500 into a 100 watt tube ART power amp, into a peavey 5150 4x12 cab.

I play guitar in a cover band called Flannel. We're specifically a 90s grunge/alternative cover band playing bars and stuff. Good times. We don't do any original stuff, just jam some 90s hits for a little coin and beer.

I play the bass guitar. Just started a couple of years ago, but I should have started years ago :)

Nice to see so many responses!
@Vaftrudner, any pieces you're willing to share? =)

@ghug, iMurk, my main deterrent from purchasing a 12 string right now is, that you have to retune it so often! My friend retunes after about six or eight songs, but Judy Collins reportedly will retune after every song when performing. The maintenance is putting me off, I guess.

@BALLS, can you elaborate on "not as always useful?" I'm interested.
Also, does Flannel have anything on youtube/ other media by which we can hear your cover band? That'd be pretty cool. =)

@Mack, "but I should have started years ago." I think it's safe to say, we all should have started sooner than we did. lol I know I didn't realize what I was missing out on until I finally learned.

I dabble in guitar, but am mostly piano/keyboard oriented. A friend and I play a few local clubs as warm-ups on slow nights, making about enough to vaguely cover our expenses.

We don't have anything on youtube, but I've considered putting a few solo covers out on there.

I play guitar as well as dabbling in mandolin, banjo, pedal steel, and bass. Mostly folk-rock type stuff, a lot of fingerpicking. I play electric once and a while when I go home, since my dad and younger brothers have a pretty nice setup.

Few songs I'm working on:

A.A. Bondy - "World Without End" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDJb0K7ZB1Y
Mississippi John Hurt - "Lonesome Valley" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-GN-BP_Qlk

I can't tough John Hurt just yet, though :)

flannelatl.com <- some demos and (obsolete) live stuff, plus pics and such.
I'd probably be in a mental hospital without guitar. Don't know what I'd do without it.
I probably shouldn't post this here, but eff it.

TWA. That was great. I just listened to "Secretions" on "Play This At My Funeral." I'm looking forward to when I have time to listen to the rest you have posted.

BALLS, "You Oughta Know" is a nice cover. I haven't had a chance to listen to more, but looking forward to it.

2WL, those are some great tunes (especially the John Hurt =). And here I thought I was the only one to enjoy such songs. =)

SD, if you decide to post anything, I'll give it a listen.

I can probably jam out Steal My Sunshine and post it up tonight, but it's just not the same without my partner. There'll be a lot of blank moments because I can't sing the female parts, pretty much literally...we've played it so much that I don't even sing along to that part when I hear it on the radio.

I'll give her a call and see if we can make that hot video we've all wanted the internet to see (not really, it'll just be two fabulously good-looking people sitting around playing instruments and singing).
Thanks dubmdell, much appreciated.

I'm learning to play banjo. However, having no musical inclinations and ten thumbs has made it quite a challenge.
dubmdell (556 D)

lol Yonni, ten thumbs? I haven't heard that one before. I like it. =)

If I may inquire, are there any particular tunes you're working on?
Yonni (136 D(S))
05 Apr 12 UTC
Well, I spent the first few months learning clawhammer. The last tune I was working in is whiskey before breakfast - one of my all time favourite traditional tunes but I certainly wasn't doing it justice.

I've been practicing skaggs for about a week now so in just practicing my rolls so far. It'll be a while before I can play any semblance of a bluegrass song.

banjo is super challenging. i have a lot of respect for a good banjo player. i'm a rock player, but i have a lot of respect for country pickers, because their chops are so tasteful, and everything has to be played so clean! all you get is a little compressor to help you out.

@dubmdell thanks for the feedback. basketcase is my fave, because it's a good guitar track. :) but yeah, i am very happy with our singer. she's got some serious pipes.

Those Times When Someone's Opinion Is...Just Wrong...(NFL QBs?)
...as I'm sure mine often is? ;) Well, here's a multi-million dollar example:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/joe-flacco-thinks-nfl-best-quarterback-005500221.html
Yeah...I like Flacco as a QB, I honestly do...but in a league with Peyton, Brady, Eli, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees...for starters...no. NOT the best in the NFL. But...who is--rank the QBs?

Is there a Chemist in the house?
I made a model for H3++, but I don't know what that's called.
H3+ is a trihydrogen cation, but is there a distinction between how "ionic" a molecule is?
Thanks!

What does an economic crisis mean to you?
Just curious.. what do you think when you hear the distant term "economic crisis" on television, the news, or from the general population?

Elites and (Reasonably Highly Rated) Scum Public Press Game
Sarg's thread made me realize that I've never played public press and would rather like to. Anyone in the top 100 GR is welcome to join, though I can increase the limit if we need more, and people in the top 50 should probably join Sarg's first (not trying to poach players here). Details are negotiable.

Community Story
As the Hobbies thread seems to indicate, we have a few writers among us. Let's compose something together, shall we?

Rules: 1) Limit yourself from 1 to 3 sentences. 2) No double posts. If you make a typo, the next poster just has to roll with it. 3) No digs at other users. If I have to spell this one out explicitly for you, then don't bother posting in my thread. 4) Just have fun with it!
