Xbox Live Arcade Diplomacy Game
Just a idea i thought of while on my xbox. Anyone else think it is a good idea? If it had 7 player matches and functionality like this website (with 1 day or more turn systems + plus live games) I think I would pay at least 10 bucks to purchase it as long as it was simple but still got the diplomacy feel.

I wrote a song for you Ava!
Inspired by Sarg's comments in this thread:
http://webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?viewthread=851524
I wrote this song for Ava! I used my friend's twelve string for instrumentation.

If you were to run for President, what would your theme song be?
You know, like Hillary was supposed to have New york State of Mind play when she campaigned in NYC... What would play and would it vary depending on where you were stumping?

Those Times When Someone's Opinion Is...Just Wrong...(NFL QBs?)
...as I'm sure mine often is? ;) Well, here's a multi-million dollar example:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/joe-flacco-thinks-nfl-best-quarterback-005500221.html
Yeah...I like Flacco as a QB, I honestly do...but in a league with Peyton, Brady, Eli, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees...for starters...no. NOT the best in the NFL. But...who is--rank the QBs?

Apologies in advance for being a prima donna and taking forum space for my personal needs here, but I legitimately let a couple of invitations fall off my messages page without replying in time because of being ridiculously busy.

Is there a Chemist in the house?
I made a model for H3++, but I don't know what that's called.
H3+ is a trihydrogen cation, but is there a distinction between how "ionic" a molecule is?
Thanks!

What does an economic crisis mean to you?
Just curious.. what do you think when you hear the distant term "economic crisis" on television, the news, or from the general population?

Elites and (Reasonably Highly Rated) Scum Public Press Game
Sarg's thread made me realize that I've never played public press and would rather like to. Anyone in the top 100 GR is welcome to join, though I can increase the limit if we need more, and people in the top 50 should probably join Sarg's first (not trying to poach players here). Details are negotiable.

Community Story
As the Hobbies thread seems to indicate, we have a few writers among us. Let's compose something together, shall we?

Rules: 1) Limit yourself from 1 to 3 sentences. 2) No double posts. If you make a typo, the next poster just has to roll with it. 3) No digs at other users. If I have to spell this one out explicitly for you, then don't bother posting in my thread. 4) Just have fun with it!

for Americans Elect americanselect.org I encourage you all to support Americans Elect especially if you know the value of compromise.

I invite you all to join and sign your name in support of whatever candidate you prefer.

PE, you can vote for Ron Paul still.......

tempting I know.

What if we picked a president, not a party? What if whoever we nominated to run for president had to choose a vice president from the other side of the aisle?

Americans Elect will change the way this country works. I know they have my vote whoever the nominee shall be.

I can't vote :(
Rascal (100 D)

Unfortunately, because presidents are elected from a plurality-based voting system, this will do nothing but hurt the candidate you prefer of the two main ones. What you should be fighting for is a new voting system. Two-party systems are inevitable in a "one vote per person, most votes wins" system of voting.

Additionally, as we saw from having Thomas Jefferson be vice president to John Adams, having two people in power with drastically different political views is generally a bad idea. Differing political views between Garfield and his vice president Arthur is mostly why he was shot.

No that was because they were runners-up. But when you know going in as a candidate for AE that AE voters expect you to be bipartisan and select a nominee from the other party you have a different story.

Also you are incorrect in a state such as my native Texas where the GOP has a sure thing - I can safely vote for AE and not worry because the GOP will still take Texas, my vote will register as a protest vote of the two-party system.

And in future elections genuine candidates who have independent support such as Ron Paul could run using AE or a system like it and truly make it a three man race. I see New Hampshire paving the way here.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

I also have nothing but respect for the fact that all people are delegates to their online nomination convention and that anyone (such as me) is a possible elector, instead of bigwig donors and the like.
Rascal (100 D)

If it only makes sense for voters in supremely slanted states to switch to AE, where it's almost certain they'll lose (to the candidate that will inevitably win the state), then it doesn't make too much sense to me to switch either. The AE candidate will still be a runner-up, unless I'm missing something crucial.

An AE vote makes sense as a protest vote, but nationally it is more likely to result solely in a Ralph Nader problem where the candidate who should win loses due to the lost votes.

I'm all for independent views, and I don't think the two parties we have now do a decent job at representing the views of most Americans. However, in this country with this system of voting it simply doesn't make sense to vote third-party.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 12 UTC
Well if you don't lean either left or right or if you hate partisan politics so much that you would rather voice it even in a swing state then why not still vote AE?

AE is not going to win, I know that. But they never will win if no one ever votes for them.

And yes Texas is a depressingly slanted state I know I'll be voting for AE.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 12 UTC
I also think AE could very well be an engine for change in voting processes, as this will be the first ever online primary. People may begin to ask why we do our primaries so weirdly state by state and with all these delegates getting picked up. Why not a direct nomination and voting process? And once you have done that, why not do that nationally?

It especially appeals to people like me who are political minorities in their states.

I have to establish an over/under for the number of years in Thucy's lifetime he will be a "maker" and not a "taker."
It's painfully obvious he is naive even for his tender age. It is also painfully obvious he hasn't learned how to differentiate between substance and fantasy.

The over/under if 5 yrs.

This means that for only five years of his probably 75 year life Thucy will actually make enough in income to reach a level that actually pays taxes.

The other 70 years Thucy of course will be what he is now, a leech on the productive members of society.
