so i haven't much enjoyed working. so maybe i'll go back to school. but i don't feel like paying anything for it. also i don't feel like contacting people for application references. isn't there some place, like the philippines or something where i can go to school for like $2 a year or something. without providing references?

World Diplomacy IX Strategy
Does anyone here know of any good sites for country-by-country strategies for the World Diplomacy variant? A quick Google search yielded nothing, but I find myself getting crushed by larger empires mid-game almost every time I play, and I'd like to know how to fix this.

Still haven't really stabbed...
So after a few weeks on this site I posted a forum thread about reliability issues after stabbing, possibly even carrying on outside the game. Months later, I still haven't really stabbed anyone, except in situations where I had already been stabbed myself.

Are the people of The United States barbarians?

I always point people to the LA Riots when they kvetch about the 'barbaric' tribal/sectarian violence in Iraq and elsewhere. Humanity doesn't evolve towards progress the way folks like to imagine it does. We 'modern' 'civilized' countries are always only one solar flare, extended power outage, terrorist attack, food shortage, alien invasion, or bad jury trial away from barbarism.

Definition of barbarism:-
1. An act, trait, or custom characterized by ignorance or crudity.
2.
a. The use of words, forms, or expressions considered incorrect or unacceptable.
b. A specific word, form, or expression so used.

If you look at the definition I don't think the US Govt is one step away from barbarism at all, but it is not fair to judge all US citizens in the same way ...... only some of them :-)

Yeah, but the LA riots lasted less than a week and *only* (relatively speaking) 53 people died, thanks largely to the quick response by the National Guard, US Army, and US Marines.

25% Smart people (Conservatives who aren't Santorum-like)
15% Dumbasses who like Santorum and his proposed policies
35% Sheep/useful idiots (moderates)
21% Commie dumbasses (liberals)

Those are real numbers too. Except for the two conservative categories. 40% of Americans self-identify as conservative, and I split the group up in between smart conservatives like myself and stupid conservatives like Rick Santorum.

I'm not surprised. I'm not an Obama-is-a-Kenyan-Muslim kind of guy, but I do think that he's not a religious as previous presidents. His decisions during office (for better or worse) do not seem to reflect Judeo-Christian values.
"as religious as previous presidents"

Oh the humanity

"His decisions during office (for better or worse) do not seem to reflect Judeo-Christian values. "

How about you name some

"Yeah, Indiana does have a few, but they all hail from Kentucky, not Indiana. And I am not from Kentucky, so I am not a slack-jawed yokel."

Uh, how about his recent decision to require religious charities' insurance to pay for contraceptives, even if that religion does not believe in their use? I don't want to get into the details of that decision, because I'm sure that it's been covered on the Forum numerous times. That being said, you have to admit that it's not exactly the Christian thing to do.
you don't want to get into details because you don't know any details, you just spout stuff like all of the other wannabe conservative philosophers out there. And I don't care whether or not its the Christian thing to do, several sects of christianity say it is not an inherently wrong thing to do so therefore who are you to say the couple that do think it is wrong can say that it is un-christian. Lets not even mention you didnt say christian, you said Judeo-Christian, and abortion is not forbiden in Judaism. Just keep talking out your ass using conservative buzz words, its your party's forte.
You know what IS a Judeo-Christian value?

The Golden Rule is a base Juseo-Christian value.

Which party booed the Golden Rule?
NikeFlash (140 D)

@gunfighter: The contraceptive mandate, so you think that it is wrong for, say, a catholic hospital that does employ non-catholics, to force their religious view onto their employees? And it is the insurance that would cover it, so it would not even be coming directly from the institution.
Dharmaton (2398 D)

Why do American barbarians like to bomb other countries so they can have freedom?
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
14 Mar 12 UTC
@ Santa

No, I don't want to get into the details because it's a fight that I do not have a dog in, being that I am not Catholic. However, it IS against Judeo-Christian principles to force our beliefs on others. Obama is forcing his beliefs on Catholic charities and organizations.

"And I don't care whether or not its the Christian thing to do, several sects of christianity say it is not an inherently wrong thing to do so therefore who are you to say the couple that do think it is wrong can say that it is un-christian."

Myself included. But the fact is that the Catholic church thinks it's wrong. As they are my fellow Christians, I think it is wrong to force them to go against that particular belief.

"Lets not even mention you didnt say christian, you said Judeo-Christian, and abortion is not forbiden in Judaism."

The taking of innocent human life (abortion) IS against Judeo-Christian values. Whatever sect of Judaism that thinks that abortion is okay is clearly lost in their beliefs.

"Which party booed the Golden Rule?"

Have I ever self-identified as a Republican? No. There are some things that the Republican Party believes that are absolutely moronic. For example, tax cuts for the rich. I just think that conservatives are right on more issues than liberals are.

@ NikeFlash

"The contraceptive mandate, so you think that it is wrong for, say, a catholic hospital that does employ non-catholics, to force their religious view onto their employees?"

Their employees chose to work for a Catholic institution. No one is forcing them to work there.

"And it is the insurance that would cover it, so it would not even be coming directly from the institution."

Yeah, but who pays for the insurance? The directness of the payment is irrelevant.

joining games
I would really like to play games with more talented players than the usual bet15 noobs. I don´t want to seem arrogant, but I want to test my personal skills. I played lots of gunboat games to train my technique, and now I am thinking of joining a game bet 100 with anonymous players. How do I know those aren´t cheaters in there. Maybe I am paranoid, but this specific size of bet seems quite suspicious to me. Can anybody help me how to find adequate games?

Hey guys, in the fall we ran a pretty successful (except for two no-shows at the end) fantasy football league, so why not try it again for baseball? League will be on Yahoo (if someone recommends something different like ESPN, we're welcome) and size will be how many people we can gather.

This game was unfortunately cancelled, so no one will be able to see what happened in it (is this a flaw in the system?).
I thought I'd make this thread anyway in case people wanted to know who was who, or give a EoG for as far as the game got. I think it was good before the extended pause...
